Field theoretic calculation of scalar turbulence
The cascade rate of passive scalar and Bachelor's constant in scalar
turbulence are calculated using the flux formula. This calculation is done to
first order in perturbation series. Batchelor's constant in three dimension is
found to be approximately 1.25. In higher dimension, the constant increases as

Diagnosing magnetars with transient cooling
Transient X-ray emission, with an approximate t^{-0.7} decay, was observed
from SGR 1900+14 over 40 days following the the giant flare of 27 Aug 1998. We
calculate in detail the diffusion of heat to the surface of a neutron star
through an intense 10^{14}-10^{15} G magnetic field, following the release of
magnetic energy in its outer layers. We show that the power law index, the
fraction of burst energy in the afterglow, and the return to persistent
emission can all be understood if the star is composed of normal baryonic
material.Comment: 9 pages, 1 eps figur
Neutrino Induced Upward Going Muons from a Gamma Ray Burst in a Neutrino Telescope of Km^2 Area
The number of neutrino induced upward going muons from a single Gamma Ray
Burst (GRB) expected to be detected by the proposed kilometer scale IceCube
detector at the South Pole location has been calculated. The effects of the
Lorentz factor, total energy of the GRB emitted in neutrinos and its distance
from the observer (red shift) on the number of neutrino events from the GRB
have been examined. The present investigation reveals that there is possibility
of exploring the early Universe with the proposed kilometer scale IceCube
neutrino telescope.Comment: 18pages, 5 figures. Physical Review D in pres
EFFECTS OF EIGHT-WEEK WHOLE-BODY VIBRATION TRAINING ON POSTURAL STABILITY IN ELDERLY ADULTS
The aim of this study was to examine the effects of an eight-week whole-body vibration training (WBVT) on postural stability (PS) in elderly people. Twenty-two elderly people with normal ability of movement were randomized into the WBVT group (WBVTG, 13 elders), and the control group (CG, 9 elders). The WBVTG underwent WBV training for 8 weeks. The CG did not take any physical training. The PS performance was evaluated by the Biodex Balance System to measure the overall (O), anterior-posterior (AP), and medial-lateral (ML) stability at level 2 (unstable) and level 8 (stable). One-way ANCOVA were used for statistical analysis, with =0.05. Results showed that after training, the WBVG significantly improved the O, AP, and ML stability performance at level 2, and also the O and ML stability performance at level 8
Incompressible Turbulence as Nonlocal Field Theory
It is well known that incompressible turbulence is nonlocal in real space
because sound speed is infinite in incompressible fluids. The equation in
Fourier space indicates that it is nonlocal in Fourier space as well. Contrast
this with Burgers equation which is local in real space. Note that the sound
speed in Burgers equation is zero. In our presentation we will contrast these
two equations using nonlocal field theory. Energy spectrum and renormalized
parameters will be discussed.Comment: 7 pages; Talk presented in Conference on "Perspectives in Nonlinear

Large-Eddy Simulations of Fluid and Magnetohydrodynamic Turbulence Using Renormalized Parameters
In this paper a procedure for large-eddy simulation (LES) has been devised
for fluid and magnetohydrodynamic turbulence in Fourier space using the
renormalized parameters. The parameters calculated using field theory have been
taken from recent papers by Verma [Phys. Rev. E, 2001; Phys. Plasmas, 2001]. We
have carried out LES on grid. These results match quite well with direct
numerical simulations of . We show that proper choice of parameter is
necessary in LES.Comment: 12 pages, 4 figures: Proper figures inserte
Effects of Decays of Tau Neutrinos Near A Supernova
We revisit the constraints implied by SN 1987 A observations on the decay
rate of a multi-MeV decaying into the visible channel , if its lifetime is more than 10 {\it sec.}. We
discuss its implication for the minimal left-right symmetric model with see-saw
mechanism for neutrino masses. We also speculate on the possible formation of a
``giant Capacitor" in intergalactic space due to the decay of "neutronization"
's and spin allignment possibility in the supernova.Comment: 29 Pages, Tex file, UMDHEP 94-4
Magnetic Response of Hydrothermally Prepared Self-Assembled Co3O4 Nano-platelets
In the present communication, we report a strong ferrimagnetic behavior of self-assembled Co[subscript 3]O[subscript 4] nano-platelets, which most likely originates from the intrinsic spin structure of the unique Co[subscript 3]O[subscript 4] structure. The microsphere-like structures are composed of nano-platelets that are entangled together to form the organized network. These anomalous ferrimagnetic properties can be rationalized by supposing that one of the Co[superscript 3+] and one of the Co[superscript 2+] ions are switched between the octahedral and tetrahedral sites. The powder sample was also characterized by x-ray diffraction and superconducting quantum interface device magnetometry.National Research Foundation of Korea (No. 2013029776 (Mid-career Researcher Program)) Remove selectedResearch Institute for Solar and Sustainable Energies (Core Technology Development Program
