A Network Disaster Recovery Plan Framework for Academic Computing Centre

    Get PDF
This thesis presents a network disaster recovery plan (DRP) framework for academic computing centre. Universiti Utara Malaysia Computer Centre is taken as a case study. The proposed framework consists of seven phases of disaster recovery plan which has been enhanced and improved by researcher based on past studies. The phases of the framework are risk assessment, prevention, preparedness, reaction, immediate recovery, restoration and review. The type of disaster in this study focuses on virus threats. In addition, the framework describes the virus management processes in each phases which is before, during and after virus occurs. The framework of network disaster recovery plan outlined here should provide the direction necessary for planning at any academic computing centre

Sensor Clusterization in D-optimal Design in Infinite Dimensional Bayesian Inverse Problems

We investigate the problem of sensor clusterization in optimal experimental design for infinite-dimensional Bayesian inverse problems. We suggest an analytically tractable model for such designs and reason how it may lead to sensor clusterization in the case of iid measurement noise. We also show that in the case of spatially correlated measurement error clusterization does not occur. As a part of the analysis we prove a matrix determinant lemma analog in infinite dimensions, as well as a lemma for calculating derivatives of logdet\log \det of operators.Comment: 19 pages, two figure

Statistical Study into the World of NFT Investing and the Process Behind It

For the purpose of this project, we gathered data from the young adults and adults of the Harrisburg University campus in support of the fact that NFT’s are not like other forms of investments in terms of the strategy used. Rather, the way people invest in them is by just simply looking at the picture, and whatever NFT people think looks cool is the NFT that will skyrocket in value.(Class Project

Communication: Semiclassical perturbation theory for the quantum diffractive scattering of atoms on thermal surfaces

    Get PDF
Inspired by the semiclassical perturbation theory of Hubbard and Miller [J. Chem. Phys. 80, 5827 (1984)10.1063/1.446609], we derive explicit expressions for the angular distribution of particles scattered from thermal surfaces. At very low surface temperature, the observed experimental background scattering is proportional to the spectral density of the phonons. The angular distribution is a sum of diffraction peaks and a broad background reflecting the spectral density. The theory is applied to measured angular distributions of Ne, Ar, and Kr scattered from a Cu(111) surface. © 2012 American Institute of Physics. This work has been graciously supported by grants from the Israel Science Foundation and the German-Israel Foundation for Basic Research, FIS2011-29596-C01-02 (Spain) and COST action MP1006.Peer Reviewe

Treatment of Cardiac Surgical Wounds with Silver Dressings

    Get PDF
Introduction. Mediastinitis is a deadly surgical site infection (SSI) after cardiac surgery. Although rare, mortality is as high as 47%. Best practices for infection prevention to eliminate this deadly complication must be identified. Surgical dressings impregnated with silver have been shown to reduce SSIs in other surgical specialties. This aim of this study is to determine if the routine use of silver surgical dressings is beneficial to prevent mediastinitis after cardiac surgery. Methods. A single-center retrospective study was performed on patients who underwent sternotomy from 2016 to 2018 at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Prior to June 2017, all cardiac surgical patients were treated with gauze surgical dressings and is designated Group A. The routine use of silver-impregnated surgical dressings was implemented in June 2017, patients after this change in practice are designated Group B. Patient characteristics and rates of deep and superficial sternal wound infections (SWI) were compared.  Results. There were 464 patients in Group A and 505 in Group B. There were seven SWIs in Group A (7/464, 1.5%) and five in Group B (5/505, 1%; p = 0.57). Of these, there was one deep SWI per group (p = 0.61) and six superficial SWIs in Group A compared to four in Group B (p = 0.74). Severe COPD was higher in Group A (p = 0.04) and peak glucose was higher in Group B (p = 0.02).  Conclusions. The analysis conferred no benefit with silver-impregnated surgical dressings to prevent mediastinitis. Choice of gauze surgical dressings may be preferable to reduce cost

A novel mutation in the miR-128b gene reduces miRNA processing and leads to glucocorticoid resistance of MLL-AF4 Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia cells

    Get PDF
MLL-AF4 Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia has a poor prognosis, and the mechanisms by which these leukemias develop are not understood despite intensive research based on well-known concepts and methods. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a new class of small noncoding RNAs that post-transcriptionally regulate expression of target mRNA transcripts. We recently reported that ectopic expression of miR-128b together with miR-221, two of the miRNAs downregulated in MLL-AF4 ALL, restores glucocorticoid resistance through downregulation of the MLL-AF4 chimeric fusion proteins MLL-AF4 and AF4-MLL that are generated by chromosomal translocation t(4;11). Here we report the identification of new mutations in miR-128b in RS4;11 cells, derived from MLL-AF4 ALL patient. One novel mutation significantly reduces the processing of miR-128b. Finally, this base change occurs in a primary MLL-AF4 ALL sample as an acquired mutation. These results demonstrate that the novel mutation in miR-128b in MLL-AF4 ALL alters the processing of miR-128b and that the resultant downregulation of mature miR-128b contributes to glucocorticoid resistance through the failure to downregulate the fusion oncogenes.National Institutes of Health (U.S.) (NIH Grant R01 DK068348)Netherlands Organization for Scientific ResearchDutch Cancer SocietyJapan Society for the Promotion of Scienc
