Performance Analysis of a Low-Interference N-Continuous OFDM Scheme

This paper investigates two issues of power spectrum density (PSD) and bit error rate (BER) of an N-continuous orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (NC-OFDM) aided low-interference time-domain scheme, when the smooth signal is designed by the linear combination of basis signals truncated by a window. Based on the relationship between the continuity and sidelobe decaying, the PSD performance is first analyzed and compared, in terms of the highest derivative order (HDO) N and the length of the smooth signal L. Since the high-order derivative of the truncation window has the finite continuity, the N-continuous signal has two finite continuities, which may have different continuous derivative orders. In this case, we develop a close PSD expression by introducing another smooth signal, which is also linearly combined by other basis signals, to explain the sidelobe decaying related to N and L. Then, in the context of BER, considering the multipath Rayleigh fading channel, based on the effect of the delayed tail of the smooth signal to the received signal, we provide a procedure for calculating the BER expressed in the form of an asymptotic summation.Comment: 7 pages, 6 figure

Time-domain N-continuous OFDM: system architecture and performance analysis

N-continuous orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (NC-OFDM) is a promising technique to achieve significant sidelobe suppression for baseband OFDM signals. However, NC-OFDM usually has high implementation complexity that limits its practical applications. Based on conventional NC-OFDM, this paper proposes a new technique, termed time-domain N-continuous OFDM (TD-NC-OFDM), which shifts the processing burden from the frequency domain to the time domain. This is achieved by adding a smooth signal, which is linearly combined by rectangularly pulsed OFDM basis signals consisting of a novel basis set. We prove that TD-NC-OFDM with the basis set is essentially equivalent to conventional NC-OFDM. Furthermore, using the time-domain structure, an asymptotic spectrum analysis of N-continuous OFDM signals is obtained by developing a closed-form expression related to sidelobe decaying. This paper also examines the impact of TD-NC-OFDMon the received signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) and derives closed-form expressions

Approximate message passing detector based upon probability sorting for large-scale GSM systems

Large-scale generalized spatialmodulation(GSM) technology has great potential in constructing low-complexity massive multiple-input multiple-output wireless systems, with a simplified structure which employs only a fewradio frequency (RF) chains. However, detection is a very complex problem for large-scale GSM systems. In this correspondence paper, we have proposed an innovative probability sorting based approximate message passing (PS-AMP) detector. Specifically, in the proposed scheme, an approximate message passing method is used to obtain the probability for activation of each transmit antenna, and a method based upon probability sorting is developed to ascertain the signal search space. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed PS-AMP detector exhibits a better bit error rate performance with a reduced complexity compared to its conventional counterparts

    N-Continuous Signaling for GFDM

An N-continuous generalized frequency division multiplexing (GFDM) transceiver architecture is studied with the objective of striking a balanced trade-off between the bit error rate (BER) and the sidelobe suppression performance. More specifically, in the proposed N-continuous GFDM signaling, the basis signals constructed allow one to make the GFDM signal N-continuous and attain a compact spectrum as an explicit benefit of sidelobe suppression. We further reveal that compared to conventional N-continuous orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (NC-OFDM), N-continuous GFDM introduces relatively low interference through evaluating the signal-to-interference ratio (SIR). Secondly, a signal recovery algorithm is presented by constructing a recovery matrix to eliminate the interference. Finally, it is demonstrated that the proposed N-continuous GFDM scheme outperforms its N-continuous OFDM counterpart in terms of sidelobe suppression, while achieving moderate BER performance degradation as opposed to original OFDM
