Scalable system for large unstructured mesh simulation

Dealing with large simulation is a growing challenge. Ideally for the wellparallelized software prepared for high performance, the problem solving capability depends on the available hardware resources. But in practice there are several technical details which reduce the scalability of the system and prevent the effective use of such a software for large problems. In this work we describe solutions implemented in order to obtain a scalable system to solve and visualize large scale problems. The present work is based on Kratos MutliPhysics [1] framework in combination with GiD [2] pre and post processor. The applied techniques are verified by CFD simulation and visualization of a wind tunnel problem with more than 100 millions of elements in our in-hose cluster in CIMNE.Postprint (published version

Objective. To analyze the safety of electric cardioversion performed for recent-onset atrial fibrillation in a hospital emergency department. Methods. Observational retrospective analysis of consecutive emergency department cases of atrial fibrillation of less than 48 hours' duration in hemodynamically stable patients. All included cases were either treated with emergency electric cardioversion or referred for evaluation and scheduling of outpatient cardioversion. The outcome variable was the occurrence of a thromboembolic or hemorrhagic event within 90 days. Results. A total of 718 cardioversions in 570 patients were analyzed. The mean (SD) age of the patients was 64 (13.5) years. Four hundred seventy-nine emergency cardioversions (66.7%) and 239 (33.3%) scheduled cardioversions were performed. Eleven adverse events (1.5% of the cohort) occurred: 2 were thromboembolic events (0.3%) and 9 were hemorrhagic (1.3%). All bleeds were minor. There were no statistically significant differences in the rate of adverse events between the emergency and scheduled cardioversion groups

A microRNA Cluster Controls Fat Cell Differentiation and Adipose Tissue Expansion By Regulating SNCG

The H19X-encoded miR-424(322)/503 cluster regulates multiple cellular functions. Here, it is reported for the first time that it is also a critical linchpin of fat mass expansion. Deletion of this miRNA cluster in mice results in obesity, while increasing the pool of early adipocyte progenitors and hypertrophied adipocytes. Complementary loss and gain of function experiments and RNA sequencing demonstrate that miR-424(322)/503 regulates a conserved genetic program involved in the differentiation and commitment of white adipocytes. Mechanistically, it is demonstrated that miR-424(322)/503 targets gamma-Synuclein (SNCG), a factor that mediates this program rearrangement by controlling metabolic functions in fat cells, allowing adipocyte differentiation and adipose tissue enlargement. Accordingly, diminished miR-424(322) in mice and obese humans co-segregate with increased SNCG in fat and peripheral blood as mutually exclusive features of obesity, being normalized upon weight loss. The data unveil a previously unknown regulatory mechanism offat mass expansion tightly controlled by the miR-424(322)/503 through SNCG.Peer reviewe

Největší kapky s průměrnou hmotností cca 72 mg byly zaznamenány u pryžového nástavce pro 0,75 % roztok HEC při úhlu...Study of influence of hydroxyethylcellulose on eye drops weight Radka Sváčková Abstract: The purpose of the work was a study of influence of hydroxyethylcellulose ingredient on weight of eye drops various dripping adapters, made of gum and plastic, in two different angles of dripping of concentration line 0,16 - 0,75 % HEC solution with 6 - 98 Pa.s range of viskosity there was found out the weight of the drops and compared to the weight of water drops gained under the same experimental circumstances. In the three - factor screening experiment there was found out that between non-water adapter is no evident diference, both of them during vertical dripping water drops of aproximately same weight (43,5 mg). The weight of drops significantly rised up with HEC ingtedient due to watering of surface of dripping part of both adapters. Watered gum adapter produced significantly larger drops than watered plastic adapter with both kind of dripping angles. The weight of drops significantly went down for both studied adapter with reducing the dripping angle from 90ř to 45ř. There was found out in this detail study quite large rising of the eye - drop weight with present of HEC ingredient of concentration range 0,16 - 0,75 % in comparison to the weight of water drops for both dripping adapter. The largest drops with...Katedra farmaceutické technologieDepartment of Pharmaceutical TechnologyFaculty of Pharmacy in Hradec KrálovéFarmaceutická fakulta v Hradci Králov

Enhancing magneto-ionic effects in magnetic nanostructured films via conformal deposition of nanolayers with oxygen acceptor/donor capabilities

Effective manipulation of the magnetic properties of nanostructured metallic alloys, exhibiting intergrain porosity (i.e., channels) and conformally coated with insulating oxide nanolayers, with an electric field is demonstrated. Nanostructured Co-Pt films are grown by electrodeposition (ED) and subsequently coated with either AlOx or HfOx by atomic layer deposition (ALD) to promote magneto-ionic effects (i.e., voltage-driven ion migration) during electrolyte gating. Pronounced variations in coercivity (HC) and magnetic moment at saturation (mS) are found at room temperature after biasing the heterostructures. The application of a negative voltage results in a decrease of HC and an increase of mS, whereas the opposite trend is achieved for positive voltages. Although magneto-ionic phenomena are already observed in uncoated Co-Pt films (because of the inherent presence of oxygen), the ALD oxide nanocoatings serve to drastically enhance the magneto-ionic effects because of partially reversible oxygen migration, driven by voltage, across the interface between AlOx or HfOx and the nanostructured Co-Pt film. Co-Pt/HfOx heterostructures exhibit the most significant magneto-electric response at negative voltages, with an increase of mS up to 76% and a decrease of HC by 58%. The combination of a nanostructured magnetic alloy and a skinlike insulating oxide nanocoating is shown to be appealing to enhance magneto-ionic effects, potentially enabling electrolyte-gated magneto-ionic technology
