Towards Optimizing with Large Language Models
In this work, we conduct an assessment of the optimization capabilities of
LLMs across various tasks and data sizes. Each of these tasks corresponds to
unique optimization domains, and LLMs are required to execute these tasks with
interactive prompting. That is, in each optimization step, the LLM generates
new solutions from the past generated solutions with their values, and then the
new solutions are evaluated and considered in the next optimization step.
Additionally, we introduce three distinct metrics for a comprehensive
assessment of task performance from various perspectives. These metrics offer
the advantage of being applicable for evaluating LLM performance across a broad
spectrum of optimization tasks and are less sensitive to variations in test
samples. By applying these metrics, we observe that LLMs exhibit strong
optimization capabilities when dealing with small-sized samples. However, their
performance is significantly influenced by factors like data size and values,
underscoring the importance of further research in the domain of optimization
tasks for LLMs
Geometric phase for nonlinear coherent and squeezed state
The geometric phases for standard coherent states which are widely used in
quantum optics have attracted a large amount of attention. Nevertheless, few
physicists consider about the counterparts of non-linear coherent states, which
are useful in the description of the motion of a trapped ion. In this paper,
the non-unitary and non-cyclic geometric phases for two nonlinear coherent and
one squeezed states are formulated respectively. Moreover, some of their common
properties are discussed respectively, such as gauge invariance, non-locality
and non-linear effects. The non-linear functions have dramatic impacts on the
evolution of the corresponding geometric phases. They speed the evolution up or
down. So this property may have application in controlling or measuring
geometric phase. For the squeezed case, when the squeezed parameter r ->
\infinity, the limiting value of the geometric phase is also determined by
non-linear function at a given time and angular velocity. In addition, the
geometric phases for standard coherent and squeezed states are obtained under a
particular condition. When the time evolution undergoes a period, their
corresponding cyclic geometric phases are achieved as well. And the distinction
between the geometric phases of the two coherent states maybe regarded as a
geometric criterion

Spontaneous neoplasm metastasis, a fatalist pathological feature of cancer, is a long-evolving, multi-steps process that can now only be treated or controlled by drugs or immuno-modulators. As we have previously hypothesized, each drug or immuno-modulator might act differently within various stages of a metastasis. Therefore any researches helping to determine these differences will be beneficial for updating therapeutics for metastasis. In this work, we have testified this hypothesis by using a series of well-known anti-metastatic agents – Bisdioxopiperazine compounds
Synergy between Proteasome Inhibitors and Imatinib Mesylate in Chronic Myeloid Leukemia
Resistance developed by leukemic cells, unsatisfactory efficacy on patients with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) at accelerated and blastic phases, and potential cardiotoxity, have been limitations for imatinib mesylate (IM) in treating CML. Whether low dose IM in combination with agents of distinct but related mechanisms could be one of the strategies to overcome these concerns warrants careful investigation.We tested the therapeutic efficacies as well as adverse effects of low dose IM in combination with proteasome inhibitor, Bortezomib (BOR) or proteasome inhibitor I (PSI), in two CML murine models, and investigated possible mechanisms of action on CML cells. Our results demonstrated that low dose IM in combination with BOR exerted satisfactory efficacy in prolongation of life span and inhibition of tumor growth in mice, and did not cause cardiotoxicity or body weight loss. Consistently, BOR and PSI enhanced IM-induced inhibition of long-term clonogenic activity and short-term cell growth of CML stem/progenitor cells, and potentiated IM-caused inhibition of proliferation and induction of apoptosis of BCR-ABL+ cells. IM/BOR and IM/PSI inhibited Bcl-2, increased cytoplasmic cytochrome C, and activated caspases. While exerting suppressive effects on BCR-ABL, E2F1, and β-catenin, IM/BOR and IM/PSI inhibited proteasomal degradation of protein phosphatase 2A (PP2A), leading to a re-activation of this important negative regulator of BCR-ABL. In addition, both combination therapties inhibited Bruton's tyrosine kinase via suppression of NFκB.These data suggest that combined use of tyrosine kinase inhibitor and proteasome inhibitor might be helpful for optimizing CML treatment
Shugan Xiaozhi Decoction Attenuates Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis by Enhancing PPAR α
This study aimed to investigate the effects of Shugan Xiaozhi decoction (SX) on nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) induced by high-fat diet in rats. The rats were randomly divided into 6 groups, namely, control, model, fenofibrate, and three different dosage of SX (10, 20, and 40 g/kg/day, p.o.). After establishing the NASH model, at 8 weeks of the experiment, treatments were administrated intragastrically to the fenofibrate and SX groups. All rats were killed after 4 weeks of treatment. Compared with the model group, alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), free fatty acid (FFA), total cholesterol (TC), triacylglycerol (TG), and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL) serum in the serum were significantly reduced in all SX treatment groups in a dose-dependent manner. Evidence showed that SX could protect the liver by upregulating the gene and protein expressions of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPARα) and liver fatty acid binding protein (L-FABP) in a dose-dependent manner. Chemical constituents of SX were further analyzed by ultraperformance liquid chromatography coupled with electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (UPLC-ESI-MS) and 30 chemicals in the ethanolic extract were tentatively identified. To conclude, our results clearly indicated that SX could protect liver functions and relieve hepatic steatosis and inflammation
Invasive fungal infection among hematopoietic stem cell transplantation patients with mechanical ventilation in the intensive care unit
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Invasive fungal infection (IFI) is associated with high morbidity and high mortality in hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) patientsThe purpose of this study was to assess the characteristics and outcomes of HSCT patients with IFIs who are undergoing MV at a single institution in Taiwan.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>We performed an observational retrospective analysis of IFIs in HSCT patients undergoing mechanical ventilation (MV) in an intensive care unit (ICU) from the year 2000 to 2009. The characteristics of these HSCT patients and risk factors related to IFIs were evaluated. The status of discharge, length of ICU stay, date of death and cause of death were also recorded.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>There were 326 HSCT patients at the Linkou Chang-Gung Memorial Hospital (Taipei, Taiwan) during the study period. Sixty of these patients (18%) were transferred to the ICU and placed on mechanical ventilators. A total of 20 of these 60 patients (33%) had IFIs. Multivariate analysis indicated that independent risk factors for IFI were admission to an ICU more than 40 days after HSCT, graft versus host disease (GVHD), and high dose corticosteroid (<it>p </it>< 0.01 for all). The overall ICU mortality rate was 88% (53 of 60 patients), and was not significantly different for patients with IFIs (85%) and those without IFIs (90%, <it>p </it>= 0.676).</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>There was a high incidence of IFIs in HSCT patients requiring MV in the ICU in our study cohort. The independent risk factors for IFI are ICU admission more than 40 days after HSCT, GVHD, and use of high-dose corticosteroid.</p
