Arthroscopic washout of the ankle for septic arthritis in a three-month-old boy
There is no report of athroscopic treatment for septic arthritis of the ankle in infants. We report a case of successful management of septic arthritis of the ankle in a three-month-old boy by arthroscopic washout. Arthroscopic washout may be a useful treatment for septic arthritis in young infants when performed early after onset
THERAPY: Optimum therapy in septic arthritis: to cut or not to cut?
The uncontrolled synovial inflammation that develops in septic arthritis (SA) can lead rapidly to marked morbidity secondary to cartilage and bone damage, with consequent disability and demands on health and social care. Guidelines published in 2006, which were endorsed by the British Society of Rheumatology (BSR), the British Orthopedic Association, the Royal College of General Practitioners, and rheumatology healthcare professionals in the UK, were designed to standardize optimum care for these patients (Figure 1)
