Does e-learning policy drive change in Higher Education?: A case study relating models of organisational change to e-learning implementation
Due to the heightened competition introduced by the potential global market and the need for structural changes within organisations delivering e-content, e-learning policy is beginning to take on a more significant role within the context of educational policy per se. For this reason, it is becoming increasingly important to establish what effect such policies have and how they are achieved. This paper addresses this question, illustrating five ways in which change is understood (Fordist, evolutionary, ecological, community of practice and discourse-oriented) and then using this range of perspectives to explore how e-learning policy drives change (both organisational and pedagogic) within a selected higher education institution. The implications of this case are then discussed, and both methodological and pragmatic conclusions are drawn, considering the relative insights offered by the models and ways in which change around e-learning might be supported or promoted
Meson-exchange currents and quasielastic predictions for charged-current neutrino-12C scattering in the superscaling approach
We evaluate and discuss the impact of meson-exchange currents (MECs) on
charged-current quasielastic neutrino cross sections. We consider the nuclear
transverse response arising from two-particle two-hole states excited by the
action of electromagnetic, purely isovector meson-exchange currents in a fully
relativistic framework based on the work by the Torino Collaboration [A. D.
Pace, M. Nardi, W. M. Alberico, T. W. Donnelly, and A. Molinari, Nucl. Phys.
A726, 303 (2003)]. An accurate parametrization of this MEC response as a
function of the momentum and energy transfers involved is presented. Results of
neutrino-nucleus cross sections using this MEC parametrization together with a
recent scaling approach for the one-particle one-hole contributions (named
SuSAv2) are compared with experimental data (MiniBooNE, MINERvA, NOMAD and T2K

Percolation of strings and the first RHIC data on multiplicity and tranverse momentum distributions
The dependence of the multiplicity on the number of collisions and the
transverse momentum distribution for central and peripheral Au-Au collisions
are studied in the model of percolation of strings relative to the experimental
conditions at RHIC. The comparison with the first RHIC data shows a good

Transition from School to University Mathematics: Manifestations of Unresolved Commognitive Conflict in First Year Students’ Examination Scripts
We explore the transition from school to university through a commognitive (Sfard 2008) analysis of twenty-two students’ examination scripts from the end of year examination of a first year, year-long module on Sets, Numbers, Proofs and Probability in a UK mathematics department. Our analysis of the scripts relies on a preliminary analysis of the tasks and the lecturers’ (also exam setters’) assessment practices, and focuses on manifestations of unresolved commognitive conflict in students’ engagement with the tasks. Here we note four such manifestations concerning the students’ identification of and consistent work with: the appropriate numerical context of the examination tasks; the visual mediators and the rules of school algebra and Set Theory discourses; the visual mediators of the Probability and Set Theory discourses; and, with the visual mediators and rules of the Probability Theory discourse. Our analysis suggests that, despite lecturers’ attempts to assist students towards a smooth transition to the different discourses of university mathematics, students’ errors at the final examination reveal unresolved commognitive conflicts. A pedagogical implication of our analysis is that a more explicit and systematic presentation of the distinctive differences between these discourses, along with facilitation of the flexible moves between them, is needed
BIOTRANSFORMAÇÃO DO GLICEROL POR ESPÉCIE DE ASPERGILLUS
O glicerol, além de ser utilizado na fabricação de diversos produtos, tem tido sua utilização estudada como substrato para biotransformação em compostos mais reduzidos e de maior valor agregado, uma vez que é considerado uma fonte de carbono altamente reduzida e assimilável por diversos microrganismos sob condições aeróbicas e anaeróbicas para obtenção de energia metabólica. O trabalho objetivou estudar a produção de compostos tendo o glicerol como fonte de carbono para o fungo Aspergillus niger, a fim de contribuir para um melhor destino do glicerol, subproduto da síntese do biodiesel, a partir de sua biotransformação. Determining R-parity violating parameters from neutrino and LHC data
In supersymmetric models neutrino data can be explained by R-parity violating
operators which violate lepton number by one unit. The so called bilinear model
can account for the observed neutrino data and predicts at the same time
several decay properties of the lightest supersymmetric particle. In this paper
we discuss the expected precision to determine these parameters by combining
neutrino and LHC data and discuss the most important observables. We show that
one can expect a rather accurate determination of the underlying R-parity
parameters assuming mSUGRA relations between the R-parity conserving ones and
discuss briefly also the general MSSM as well as the expected accuracies in
case of a prospective e+ e- linear collider. An important observation is that
several parameters can only be determined up to relative signs or more

Some Implications of a Supersymmetric Model with R-Parity Breaking Bilinear Interactions
We investigate a supersymmetric scenario where R-parity is explicitly broken
through a term bilinear in the lepton and Higgs superfields in the
superpotential. We show that keeping such a term alone can lead to trilinear
interactions, similar to those that are parametrized by -and
in the literature, involving the physical fields. The upper limits
of such interactions are predictable from the constraints on the parameter
space imposed by the lepton masses and the neutrino mass limits. It is observed
that thus the resulting trilinear interactions are restricted to values that
are smaller than the existing bounds on most of the -and
-parameters. Some phenomenological consequences of such a scenario
