The publishing of Little Poems in Prose (1869), by Baudelaire, and the premiere of the Natural Stories (1906), by Ravel, with poems in prose by Renard, set up a temporal arch that comprises an unusual experience: the publishing of the ‘lyric novel’ The Songs of Bilitis, constituted by poems in prose by Louÿs, and in the Three Songs of Bilitis and the Six Epigrams Antiques, by Debussy, over poems of the work of Louÿs. Revisiting these works promise to open a place to voice and words where the desire circulates with equal potency and refinement
