Literature update on effective environmental enrichment and light provision in broiler chickens
The results of a literature study to the effect of different types of environmental enrichment and light conditions on broiler chickens welfare are described, in order to attempt to provide an environment to slow-growing broiler chickens that better meets their behavioural requirements. With respect to environmental enrichment, a review paper has been used as a starting point and more recent information has been collected and summarised. With respect to lighting, in consultation with stakeholders we chose to limit the literature study to a fewpotential interesting areas of research (e.g. natural light provisionand its variation across the broiler house). There are several research questions in relation to enrichment provision, e.g., optimal perch design, multiple use of enrichments and the actual number of enrichments that should be provided. Currently, little is known about the need for light in slow-growing broiler chickens and how this interacts with the environmental enrichment offered. Future research priorities include theoptimization of methods of natural light provision (which is often applied in higher welfare indoor systems with slow-growing breeds), testing effects of ultraviolet wavelengths on chicken behaviour,and light colour preferences in slow-growing breeds
Potential for wind and solar energy hybrid power gfeneration: the case of Brazil
Wind and solar energy have stood out in recent years because of the growth of global installed capacity. This work aims to present wind and solar photovoltaic energy development and its regulatory framework in Brazil, and demonstrate the potential for centralized hybrid generation. Official studies, research reports, and thematic maps were consulted, and two pilot hybrid plants were studied. Results indicate that there is great potential for centralized hybrid generation in the Brazilian Northeast region. However, there is a need for the regulatory framework to evolve to enable its development.As energias eólica e solar têm se destacado nos últimos anos devido ao crescimento da capacidade instalada global. Este trabalho tem como objetivo apresentar o desenvolvimento da energia eólica e solar fotovoltaica e seu marco regulatório no Brasil, e demonstrar o potencial da geração híbrida centralizada. Foram consultados estudos oficiais, relatórios de pesquisas e mapas temáticos e estudadas duas plantas híbridas piloto. Os resultados indicam que existe um grande potencial para geração híbrida centralizada na região Nordeste do Brasil. No entanto, é necessário que o marco regulatório evolua para possibilitar seu desenvolvimento
The color gradients of spiral disks in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey
We investigate the radial color gradients of galactic disks using a sample of
about 20,000 face-on spiral galaxies selected from the fourth data release of
the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS-DR4). We combine galaxies with similar
concentration, size and luminosity to construct composite galaxies, and then
measure their color profiles by stacking the azimuthally averaged radial color
profiles of all the member galaxies. Except for the smallest galaxies (R_{50}<3
kpc), almost all galaxies show negative disk color gradients with mean g-r
gradient G_{gr}=-0.006 mag kpc^{-1} and r-z gradient G_{rz}=-0.018 mag
kpc^{-1}. The disk color gradients are independent of the morphological types
of galaxies and strongly dependent on the disk surface brightness \mu_{d}, with
lower surface brightness galactic disks having steeper color gradients. We
quantify the intrinsic correlation between color gradients and surface
brightness as G_{gr}=-0.011\mu_{d}+0.233 and G_{rz}=-0.015\mu_{d}+0.324. These
quantified correlations provide tight observational constraints on the

How the extinction of extragalactic background light affects surface photometry of galaxies, groups and clusters
The faint regions of galaxies, groups and clusters hold important clues about
how these objects formed, and surface photometry at optical and near-infrared
wavelengths represents a powerful tool for studying such structures. Here, we
identify a hitherto unrecognized problem with this technique, related to how
the night sky flux is typically measured and subtracted from astronomical
images. While most of the sky flux comes from regions between the observer and
the target object, a small fraction - the extragalactic background light (EBL)
- comes from behind. We argue that since this part of the sky flux can be
subject to extinction by dust present in the galaxy/group/cluster studied,
standard reduction procedures may lead to a systematic oversubtraction of the
EBL. Even very small amounts of extinction can lead to spurious features in
radial surface surface brightness profiles and colour maps of extended objects.
We assess the likely impact of this effect on a number of topics in
extragalactic astronomy where very deep surface photometry is currently
attempted, including studies of stellar halos, starburst host galaxies, disc
truncations and diffuse intragroup/intracluster light. We argue that EBL
extinction may provide at least a partial explanation for the anomalously red
colours reported for the halos of disc galaxies and the hosts of local
starburst galaxies. EBL extinction effects also mimic truncations in discs with
unusually high dust opacities, but are unlikely to be the cause of such
features in general. Failure to account for EBL extinction can also give rise
to a non-negligible underestimate of intragroup and intracluster light at the

The terahertz wave is applied to the basic science, such as device, spectroscopy, and imaging technology. And also adjust in the applied science, such as biomedical engineering, security, environment, information and communication. Which importance already verified. Recently, Current elements operating in terahertz are present, such as compound semiconductor (???-???HBT, HEMT). But, there are disadvantage to use as a high price. Therefore, research have been made of silicon based THz detector in many research groups. Silicon-based nano-technology utilizes a plasma wave transistor technology. Which is using the space-time change of the channel charge density. That causes plasma wave oscillation in the MOSFET (Metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistor) channel and this effect available MOSET operating terahertz regime beyond MOSFET cut-off frequency. So, PWT (plasma wave transistor) is available terahertz detection and oscillation. For integrated possible post processing circuit development in these of terahertz applications system, silicon based PWT compact model is essential thing. For this compact model for spice simulation beyond cut-off frequency, we consider charge time variance model which is NQS (non-quasi-static) model, not quasi-static model. For NQS model two kinds of model exist, first is RC ladder model. That is seral connect MOSFET get rid of parasitic elements. And these complex circuit making the equivalent circuit model, it called New Elmore model. For post processing circuit simulation, fast simulation speed is essential, RC ladder model has a disadvantage (for simulating each segment). In this thesis we using New Elmore model based on Non-resonant plasmonic THz detector modeling, And verified physical validity of our NQS model using the our TCAD model based on Quasi-plasma 2DEG. Stress response function of a two-dimensional ordered packing of frictional beads
We study the stress profile of an ordered two-dimensional packing of beads in
response to the application of a vertical overload localized at its top
surface. Disorder is introduced through the Coulombic friction between the
grains which gives some indeterminacy and allows the choice of one constrained
random number per grain in the calculation of the contact forces. The so-called
`multi-agent' technique we use, lets us deal with systems as large as
grains. We show that the average response profile has a double
peaked structure. At large depth , the position of these peaks grows with
, while their widths scales like . and are analogous to
`propagation' and `diffusion' coefficients. Their values depend on that of the
friction coefficient . At small , we get and , with , which means that the peaks get
closer and wider as the disorder gets larger. This behavior is qualitatively
what was predicted in a model where a stochastic relation between the stress

Engineered Saccharomyces cerevisiae for lignocellulosic valorization: a review and perspectives on bioethanol production
The biorefinery concept, consisting in using renewable biomass with economical and energy goals, appeared in response to the ongoing exhaustion of fossil reserves. Bioethanol is the most prominent biofuel and has been considered one of the top chemicals to be obtained from biomass. Saccharomyces cerevisiae, the preferred microorganism for ethanol production, has been the target of extensive genetic modifications to improve the production of this alcohol from renewable biomasses. Additionally, S. cerevisiae strains from harsh industrial environments have been exploited due to their robust traits and improved fermentative capacity. Nevertheless, there is still not an optimized strain capable of turning second generation bioprocesses economically viable. Considering this, and aiming to facilitate and guide the future development of effective S. cerevisiae strains, this work reviews genetic engineering strategies envisioning improvements in 2nd generation bioethanol production, with special focus in process-related traits, xylose consumption, and consolidated bioprocessing. На основе архивных данных реконструируются первые попытки изучения дна озера русскими путешественниками и учеными в середине ХIХ века; описывается проект Г.А.Колпаковского по доставке на озеро водолазного оборудования (1871); оцениваются результаты работ экспедиций Д.Ф.Винника и современное состояние дел по изучению подводных памятников озера.Стаття присвячена історії археологічних досліджень на озері Іссик-куль. На основі архівних даних реконструюються перші спроби вивчення дна озера російськими мандрівниками і ученими в середині ХIХ століття; описується проект Г.А.Колпаковського з доставки на озеро водолазного обладнання (1871); оцінюються результати робіт експедицій Д.Ф.Вінника і сучасний стан справ по вивченню підводних пам'ятників озера.The article is devoted to the history of archaeological researches at lake Issik Kul. On the basis of the archived documents the first attempts to investigate the lake bottom by Russian travelers and scientists in the middle of ХIХ age are reconstructed; the G.A.Kolpakovskiy’s project concerning the delivery of diving equipment (1871) to the lake is described; the work results of D.F.Vinnik’s expeditions and modern researches of archaeological artefacts of the lake are assessed
