    • Our research suggest that anthocyanins are promising anti-bacterial agents • The antimicrobial effects are highly dependent on the source of the anthocyanin-extract • Rose-anthocyanins appear to posses the strongest anti-bacterial effects • Gram-positive strains appear to be more sensitive compared to gram-negative strains • Future research efforts should focus on different anthocyanin entitie

    Meer water met regelbare drainage?

    Get PDF

A new design of a test platform for testing multiple partial discharge sources

Partial discharge (PD) measurements are an effective tool for insulation assessment of high-voltage (HV) equipment widely used in both HV laboratories and in field tests. This paper presents the design of a test platform for electrical detection of partial discharges that contribute to the understanding of the phenomena. The test set-up comprises a collection of electrodes for the production of artificial PD sources frequently found in HV equipment, such as positive corona, negative corona, surface discharges, internal discharges, floating component and free moving particle. The test set-up has been designed in such a way that the gaps and clearances can be adjusted to modify the discharge characteristics, e.g. the discharge inception voltage, amplitude, repetition rate, etc. Besides, the platform has a symmetrical and radial arrangement of the PD sources around the coupling capacitor of the PD measuring systems with contribute to reduce the effect of the measuring circuit on the measurements. Relevant characteristics of the presented design is that the sensing of the PD signals is done by a high frequency current transformer (HFCT) with a wide bandwidth and the acquisition of the signals by a digital oscilloscope. A software tool was designed for the purpose of processing of the digitalized signals which proved to be an excellent workbench for studying the performance of clustering techniques.DC systems, Energy conversion & Storag

Antenatal allopurinol reduces hippocampal brain damage after acute birth asphyxia in late gestation fetal sheep

Item does not contain fulltextFree radical-induced reperfusion injury is a recognized cause of brain damage in the newborn after birth asphyxia. The xanthine oxidase inhibitor allopurinol reduces free radical synthesis and crosses the placenta easily. Therefore, allopurinol is a promising therapeutic candidate. This study tested the hypothesis that maternal treatment with allopurinol during fetal asphyxia limits ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) damage to the fetal brain in ovine pregnancy. The I/R challenge was induced by 5 repeated measured compressions of the umbilical cord, each lasting 10 minutes, in chronically instrumented fetal sheep at 0.8 of gestation. Relative to control fetal brains, the I/R challenge induced significant neuronal damage in the fetal hippocampal cornu ammonis zones 3 and 4. Maternal treatment with allopurinol during the I/R challenge restored the fetal neuronal damage toward control scores. Maternal treatment with allopurinol offers potential neuroprotection to the fetal brain in the clinical management of perinatal asphyxia
