Measurement of D*+/- diffractive cross sections in photoproduction at HERA
The first measurement of D*+/- meson diffractive photoproduction cross
sections has been performed with the ZEUS detector at the HERA collider,
using an integrated luminosity of 38 pb^-1. The measurement has been performed
for photon--proton center-of-mass energies in the range 130 < W < 280 GeV and
photon virtualities Q^2 < 1 GeV^2. D*+/- mesons have been reconstructed with
p_T(D*)>2 GeV and -1.5 D^0 \pi^+_s
with D^0 --> K-\pi^+ (+c.c.). The diffractive component has been selected with
0.001<x_Pom<0.018. The measured diffractive cross section in this kinematic
range is: \sigma_(ep --> e'D*Xp') =
0.74 +/- 0.21 (stat.)^{+0.27}_{-0.18} (syst.) +/-0.16 (p. diss.) ~nb (ZEUS
preliminary). Measured integrated and differential cross sections have been

Lower bounds for open charm and beauty contributions to F_2
On the basis of some peculiar scaling properties of the OPE coefficient
functions, we give the lower bounds for F_2^{c\bar{c}} and F_2^{b\bar{b}}
independently of the properties of the gluon density function. Predictions for
F_2^{b\bar{b}} within reach of HERA are made.Comment: 10 pages, 4 eps figures. Misprints are corrected and comment is

Heavy Flavour Physics at HERA - a Survey
At the HERA collider at DESY, high energy electron and positron beams
interact with proton beams. A review is presented of the variety of ways in

Deep Inelastic Scattering at HERA
Results from the H1 and ZEUS experiments at HERA on deep inelastic scattering
are reviewed. The data lead to a consistent picture of a steep rise in the F_2
structure function and in the gluon density within the proton. Important new
information on the partonic structure of diffraction is emerging from H1 and
ZEUS. The space-like region in which the weak and electromagnetic interactions
become of equal strength is being explored for the first time. A possible
excess of events at high x and Q^2 compared to the expectations of the Standard
Model has been observed in both experiments.Comment: 80 pages, 42 figure
Determination of the longitudinal structure function at HERA
Recent results from the HERA experiment H1 on the longitudinal stucture
function of the proton are presented. They include proton structure
function analyses with particular emphasis on those kinematic regions which are
sensitive to . All results can be consistently described within the

Heavy Quark Mass Effects in Deep Inelastic Scattering and Global QCD Analysis
A new implementation of the general PQCD formalism of Collins, including
heavy quark mass effects, is described. Important features that contribute to
the accuracy and efficiency of the calculation of both neutral current (NC) and
charged current (CC) processess are explicitly discussed. This new
implementation is applied to the global analysis of the full HERA I data sets
on NC and CC cross sections, with correlated systematic errors, in conjunction
with the usual fixed-target and hadron collider data sets. By using a variety
of parametrizations to explore the parton parameter space, robust new parton
distribution function (PDF) sets (CTEQ6.5) are obtained. The new quark
distributions are consistently higher in the region x ~ 10^{-3} than previous
ones, with important implications on hadron collider phenomenology, especially
at the LHC. The uncertainties of the parton distributions are reassessed and
are compared to the previous ones. A new set of CTEQ6.5 eigenvector PDFs that

Factorization scheme and scale dependence in diffractive dijet production at low Q^2
We calculate diffractive dijet production in deep-inelastic scattering at
next-to-leading order of perturbative QCD, including contributions from direct
and resolved photons, and compare our predictions to preliminary data from the
H1 collaboration at HERA. We study how the cross section depends on the
factorization scheme and scale M_\gamma at the virtual photon vertex for the
occurrence of factorization breaking. The strong M_\gamma-dependence, which is
present when only the resolved cross section is suppressed, is tamed by
introducing the suppression also into the initial-state NLO correction of the

Regge behaviour of distribution functions and t and x-evolutions of gluon distribution function at low-x
In this paper t and x-evolutions of gluon distribution function from
Dokshitzer-Gribov-Lipatov-Altarelli-Parisi(DGLAP) evolution equation in leading
order(LO) at low-x, assuming the Regge behaviour of quark and gluon at this
limit, are presented. We compare our results of gluon distribution function
with MRST 2001, MRST 2004 and GRV '98 parameterizations and show the
compatibility of Regge behaviour of quark and gluon distribution functions with
perturbative quantum chromodynamics(PQCD) at low-x. We also discuss the
limitations of Taylor series expansion method used earlier to solve DGLAP
evolution equations, in the Regge behaviour of distribution functions.Comment: 19 pages, 7 figure
Bayesian model comparison applied to the Explorer-Nautilus 2001 coincidence data
Bayesian reasoning is applied to the data by the ROG Collaboration, in which
gravitational wave (g.w.) signals are searched for in a coincidence experiment
between Explorer and Nautilus. The use of Bayesian reasoning allows, under well
defined hypotheses, even tiny pieces of evidence in favor of each model to be
extracted from the data. The combination of the data of several experiments can
therefore be performed in an optimal and efficient way. Some models for
Galactic sources are considered and, within each model, the experimental result
is summarized with the likelihood rescaled to the insensitivity limit value
(`` function''). The model comparison result is given in in terms of
Bayes factors, which quantify how the ratio of beliefs about two alternative

The proton structure function F_2(x,Q^2) for x < 0.01 and 0.045< Q^2 < 45
GeV^2, measured in the deep inelastic scattering at HERA, can be well described
