    Further explorations of Skyrme-Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov mass formulas. III: Role of particle-number projection

    Starting from HFB-6, we have constructed a new mass table, referred to as HFB-8, including all the 9200 nuclei lying between the two drip lines over the range of Z and N > 6 and Z < 122. It differs from HFB-6 in that the wave function is projected on the exact particle number. Like HFB-6, the isoscalar effective mass is constrained to the value 0.80 M and the pairing is density independent. The rms errors of the mass-data fit is 0.635 MeV, i.e. better than almost all our previous HFB mass formulas. The extrapolations of this new mass formula out to the drip lines do not differ significantly from the previous HFB-6 mass formula.Comment: 9 pages, 7 figures, accepted for publication in Phys. Rev.

    Topology of energy surfaces and existence of transversal Poincar\'e sections

    Two questions on the topology of compact energy surfaces of natural two degrees of freedom Hamiltonian systems in a magnetic field are discussed. We show that the topology of this 3-manifold (if it is not a unit tangent bundle) is uniquely determined by the Euler characteristic of the accessible region in configuration space. In this class of 3-manifolds for most cases there does not exist a transverse and complete Poincar\'e section. We show that there are topological obstacles for its existence such that only in the cases of S1×S2S^1\times S^2 and T3T^3 such a Poincar\'e section can exist.Comment: 10 pages, LaTe

    We consider an invariant skew-symmetric phase-space metric for non-Hamiltonian systems. We say that the metric is an invariant if the metric tensor field is an integral of motion. We derive the time-dependent skew-symmetric phase-space metric that satisfies the Jacobi identity. The example of non-Hamiltonian systems with linear friction term is considered.Comment: 12 page

    A TQFT associated to the LMO invariant of three-dimensional manifolds

    We construct a Topological Quantum Field Theory (in the sense of Atiyah) associated to the universal finite-type invariant of 3-dimensional manifolds, as a functor from the category of 3-dimensional manifolds with parametrized boundary, satisfying some additional conditions, to an algebraic-combinatorial category. It is built together with its truncations with respect to a natural grading, and we prove that these TQFTs are non-degenerate and anomaly-free. The TQFT(s) induce(s) a (series of) representation(s) of a subgroup Lg{\cal L}_g of the Mapping Class Group that contains the Torelli group. The N=1 truncation produces a TQFT for the Casson-Walker-Lescop invariant.Comment: 28 pages, 13 postscript figures.     Topology of the spaces of Morse functions on surfaces

    Let MM be a smooth closed orientable surface, and let FF be the space of Morse functions on MM such that at least χ(M)+1\chi(M)+1 critical points of each function of FF are labeled by different labels (enumerated). Endow the space FF with CC^\infty-topology. We prove the homotopy equivalence FR×M~F\sim R\times{\widetilde{\cal M}} where RR is one of the manifolds RP3{\mathbb R}P^3, S1×S1S^1\times S^1 and the point in dependence on the sign of χ(M)\chi(M), and M~{\widetilde{\cal M}} is the universal moduli space of framed Morse functions, which is a smooth stratified manifold.     Clinical case of hereditary hemochromatosis

    The article presents a clinical case demonstrating the difficulties of timely diagnosis of hereditary hemochromatosis, presents data on modern diagnosis and approaches to the treatment of the disease according to existing clinical guidelines. The described clinical case of hereditary hemochromatosis is associated with a homozygous mutation of C282Y in HFE gene in a 58-year-old patient and his twin brother. Initially, signs of iron deposition in the liver were found on MRI of the abdominal cavity. In laboratory analyses, the patient was found to have an increased level of serum iron - 40 µmol/l and ferritin - 1340 ng/ml. Subsequently, the investigation of HFE gene mutations was carried out and a mutation of C282Y in homozygous form (genotype A/A) was found, which is a molecular genetic confirmation of hereditary hemochromatosis of type 1. At the same time, the patient's twin brother at the targeted examination had the serum iron level of 36 µmol/l, the ferritin level of 600 ng/ml, and also the mutation of HFE gene, the allelic variant of A/A. The results of liver fibroelastometry of the patient correlate with the degree of fibrosis F1 by Metavir scale. Timely started therapeutic phlebotomies led to improved clinical and laboratory parameters of iron metabolism while maintaining normal levels of red blood cells and hemoglobin

    Aim of investigation. To investigate options of improvement of anal sphincter function of defunctioning loop by BFT and tibial nerve stimulation.Material and methods. Overall 23 patients with preventive stoma were included in original investigation. Diagnostic profilometry and sphincterometry were carried out. Treatment included BFT and tibial nerve stimulation for 10 days. Results. After treatment profilometry revealed statistically significant increase of mean resting pressure, while sphincterometry — at conation as well.Conclusions. Muscular structures of the defunctioning anal sphincter respond to BFT and tibial nerve stimulation, increasing both tension and force of voluntary contractions

    Foliations of Isonergy Surfaces and Singularities of Curves

    It is well known that changes in the Liouville foliations of the isoenergy surfaces of an integrable system imply that the bifurcation set has singularities at the corresponding energy level. We formulate certain genericity assumptions for two degrees of freedom integrable systems and we prove the opposite statement: the essential critical points of the bifurcation set appear only if the Liouville foliations of the isoenergy surfaces change at the corresponding energy levels. Along the proof, we give full classification of the structure of the isoenergy surfaces near the critical set under our genericity assumptions and we give their complete list using Fomenko graphs. This may be viewed as a step towards completing the Smale program for relating the energy surfaces foliation structure to singularities of the momentum mappings for non-degenerate integrable two degrees of freedom systems.Comment: 30 pages, 19 figure
