An epidemiological Study of Domestic Violence Against Women and its Association with Sexually Transmitted Infections in Bangalore Rural.
Background: Gender-based violence is universal, differing only in scope from one society to the other. The most common form of violence against women is domestic violence or violence within families. Objectives: 1. To study the prevalence and different forms of domestic violence perpetrated by intimate partner against married women. 2. To study socio economic and demographic factors which affect the victimization of woman for domestic violence. 3.To study prevalence of sexually transmitted infection and its association with domestic violence in the study group. Methods: Based on a pilot study results, a sample size of 257 was determined. Total 257 currently married women in the reproductive age group (15-49 yrs) were interviewed by systematic random sampling with prior consent using a well designed, pre- tested questionnaire . All the women were screened for sexually transmitted infections as per the WHO guidelines by syndromic approach. The data was analyzed by percentages and chi-square test. Results: Prevalence of domestic violence was found to be 29.57% in the study group. Verbal abuse was reported by 81.58% of the women, Physical abuse by 31.58% of the women ,Psychological abuse by 27.63% of the women and Sexual abuse by 10.53% of the women. Among the 76 victimized women none of them reported to the police. Interpretation and conclusions: The vulnerability to domestic violence was found significantly associated with age at marriage, duration of marriage and addiction of husband to alcohol. The association between domestic violence and sexually transmitted infections was also found significant
Utility of serum lactate dehydrogenase in the diagnosis of megaloblastic anemia
Background: Megaloblastc anemia corresponds to severe macrocytic anemia with hypersegmented neutrophils and very high serum Lactate Dehydrogenase (LDH). The present study was undertaken to evaluate the utility of serum LDH and chloroform inhibited serum LDH in the diagnosis of megaloblastic anemia and to observe if this can be used to differentiate megaloblastic anemia from iron deficiency anemia and hemolytic anemia. Methods: The present study was carried out on 75 patients of anemia categorised on bone marrow examination (into megaloblastic and non-megaloblastic anaemia) to evaluate the efficacy of total serum LDH levels and LDH isoenzyme pattern in the diagnosis of megaloblastic anemia. About 25 healthy adults were taken as controls. Results: In megaloblastic anemia, total serum LDH level was found to be increased to about nineteen folds and in hemolytic anemia it was found to increased four folds as compared to normal. On statistical analysis this increased total serum LDH level in megaloblastic anemia and hemolytic anemia as compared to control group was found to be significant. In the present study serum LDH level above 3000IU/L was associated with megaloblastic anemia and serum LDH level below 900IU/L was suggestive of iron deficiency anemia. The chloroform inhibition test was less than 25% in megaloblastic anemia and more than 25% in hemolytic anemia and these differences were found to be statistically significant (t=9.62, df=49, pLDH2) by chloroform inhibition test is an adjuvant in the diagnosis where total serum LDH levels are between 451-3000IU/L and can also differentiate megaloblastic anemia from hemolytic anemia
Morphometric studies in the genus Clerodendrum L.
Six Clerodendrum L. species from Kolhapur district were morphometrically analyzed with the help of PCA, cluster analysis and CD. It was observed that the quantitative characters viz. petiole length, leaf length and leaf width have great significance in delimitation of all the species and corolla tube length, leaf width, gynoecium length and leaf length have great contribution in separation of the taxa. Clerodendrum multiflorum (Burm.f.) O. Ktze.- Clerodendrum inerme (L.) Gaertn., Clerodendrum paniculatum L. - Clerodendrum viscosum Vent. and Clerodendrum inerme (L.) Gaertn. - Clerodendrum serratum (L.) Moon. are very closely related with each other and Clerodendrum multiflorum (Burm.f.) O.Ktze.- Clerodendrum paniculatum L. and Clerodendrum multiflorum (Burm.f.) O. Ktze. - Clerodendrum viscosum Vent. are significantly different from each other
A Voting-Based System for Ethical Decision Making
We present a general approach to automating ethical decisions, drawing on
machine learning and computational social choice. In a nutshell, we propose to
learn a model of societal preferences, and, when faced with a specific ethical
dilemma at runtime, efficiently aggregate those preferences to identify a
desirable choice. We provide a concrete algorithm that instantiates our
approach; some of its crucial steps are informed by a new theory of
swap-dominance efficient voting rules. Finally, we implement and evaluate a
system for ethical decision making in the autonomous vehicle domain, using
preference data collected from 1.3 million people through the Moral Machine

FINITE ELEMENT ANALYSIS AND NATURAL FREQUENCY OPTIMIZATION OF ENGINE BRACKET
The automotive engine mounting systems are very important due to different aspects of vehicle performance. Early in improvement the building of the engine mounting system should be rapidly checked and precisely analyzed, without sample of a vehicle authorization. Engine bracket has been designed as a framework to support engine. Vibration and fatigue of engine bracket has been continuously a concern which may lead to structural failure if the resulting vibration and stresses are severe and excessive. It is a significant study which requires in-depth investigation to understand the structural characteristics and its dynamic behavior. This paper presents and focuses on some Finite Element (FE) analysis of a typical engine bracket of a car will be carried out and natural frequency will be determined
Chemoselective C-benzoylation of phenols by using AlCl3 under solvent-free conditions
Substituted phenols were chemo-selectively reacted with benzoylchloride in presence of aluminum chloride under solvent-free condition to afford the corresponding 2'-hydroxy aryl benzophenones in excellent yields (72-96%). Naphthol benzoylation resulted in lower yields as compared to phenols. Both reactions completed in 5-10 min with quantitative yields providing excellent control over regioselectivity of products. KEY WORDS: Chemoselective C-acylation, F-C reaction, Fries rearrangement Bull. Inhibition Planktonic and Bio film Growth of Candida Albicans by Plant Extract Alone and in combination with Fluconazole
This study was to evaluate the efficacy of Methanolic extract of G. superba L in combination with Fluconazole against biofilm development and mature biofilms of C. albicans. Synergism between MEGS and Fluconazole combination against biofilm formation was evident with FICI of 0.187. Combination of MEGS and Fluconazole did not have synergistic potential against mature biofilm growth, evidenced in FICI of 0.916. MIC of standard Fluconazole was found to be 0.5 and >0.5 in biofilm development and mature biofilm respectively
Comparative study of the thermoluminescence glow curves recorded from varieties of Vitis vinifera, V. labrusca and V. champini
Thermoluminescence (TL) glow curves were recorded from leaves of eight Vitis varieties grown in South-West India, viz. Thompson Seedless, Sonaka, Anab-E-Shahi, Kishmish Charni, Tas-A-Ganesh, Black Monuka, Bangalore Purple and American Dogridge belonging to the Vitis vinifera, V. labrusca and V. champini species. The TL peaks were analysed, using a computer-assisted model based on the general order kinetics theory, to determine thermodynamical parameters such as activation energy, entropy, frequency factor and free energy. It was observed that all six V. vinifera samples showed an entirely different TL pattern consisting of only one prominent and highly narrow peak at around -5 degrees C (peak II). The prominence of this peak attributed to S2/S3 Qa- recombination suggests a modification at the plastoquinone electron acceptor sites. On the other hand, the remaining two varieties Bangalore Purple and American Dogridge showed broader TL spectra consisting of a higher number of peaks. This basic difference is attributed to the difference in species of the selected varieties. Moreover, the TL recorded from Bangalore Purple resembled the standard TL spectra of spinach. The study undertaken in this paper may be relevant in grape breeding programs
Comparison of neuroimaging by CT and MRI and correlation with neurological presentation in eclampsia
Background: The objective of the study was to compare computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings of eclampsia patients with respect to neurological signs and symptoms. Methods: This is a prospective observational study, 25 patients of eclampsia were studied, statistical analysis was done by Fishers’ exact and chi square test. Results: All patients in our study presented with antepartum or intrapartum eclampsia with neurological features ranging from headache, altered consciousness to coma. On neuroimaging by MR transiently high T2 signal intensity in the cerebral cortex and sub cortical white matter was seen, including edema. With MR angiography generalized vasospasm was also seen in 40% cases. MRI was found to be co-relating more than CT with the neurological presentation and had 90% sensitivity and 100% sensitivity. Conclusions: Symptoms like visual blurring, loss of vision and ophthalmological signs in eclampsia suggest occipital lobe involvement. Magnetic resonance imaging abnormalities in eclampsia correlate well with clinical findings as compared to CT and can be better imaging modality in eclampsia patients
