Measurement of J/ψ Helicity Distributions in Inelastic Photoproduction at HERA
The J/ψ decay angular distributions have been measured in inelastic photo-production in ep collisions with the ZEUS detector at HERA, using an integrated luminosity of 468 pb-1. The range in photon-proton centre-of-mass energy, W, was 50 \u3c W \u3c 180 GeV. The J/ψ mesons were identified through their decay into muon pairs. The polar and azimuthal angles of the μ+ were measured in the J/ψ rest frame and compared to theoretical predictions at leading and next-to-leading order in QCD. © SISSA 2009
Production of Excited Charm and Charm-Strange Mesons at HERA
The production of excited charm, D 1(2420)0 and D 2* (2460)0, and charm-strange, D s1(2536)±, mesons in ep collisions was measured with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 126 pb -1. Masses, widths and helicity parameters were determined. The measured yields were converted to the rates of c quarks hadronising as a given excited charm meson and to the ratios of the dominant D 2* (2460)0 and D s1(2536) ± branching fractions. A search for the radially excited charm meson, D *(2640)±, was also performed. The results are compared with those measured previously and with theoretical expectations. © 2009 Springer-Verlag / Società Italiana di Fisica
A Measurement of the Q\u3csup\u3e2\u3c/sup\u3e, W and t Dependences of Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering at HERA
Deeply virtual Compton scattering, γ*p→γp has been measured in e+p collisions at HERA with the ZEUS detector using an integrated luminosity of 61.1 pb-1. Cross sections are presented as a function of the photon virtuality, Q2, and photon-proton centre-of-mass energy, W, for a wide region of the phase space, Q2 \u3e 1.5GeV2 and 40 \u3c W \u3c 170GeV. A subsample of events in which the scattered proton is measured in the leading proton spectrometer, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 31.3 pb-1, is used for the first direct measurement of the differential cross section as a function of t, where t is the square of the four-momentum transfer at the proton vertex. © SISSA 2009
Deep Inelastic Inclusive and Diffractive Scattering at Q\u3csup\u3e2\u3c/sup\u3e Values from 25 to 320 GeV\u3csup\u3e2\u3c/sup\u3e with the ZEUS Forward Plug Calorimeter
Deep inelastic scattering and its diffractive component, e p → e′ γ* p → e′ X N, have been studied at HERA with the ZEUS detector using an integrated luminosity of 52.4 pb-1. The MX method has been used to extract the diffractive contribution. A wide range in the centre-of-mass energy W (37-245 GeV), photon virtuality Q2 (20-450 GeV2) and mass MX (0.28-35 GeV) is covered. The diffractive cross section for 2 \u3c MX \u3c 15 GeV rises strongly with W, the rise becoming steeper as Q2 increases. The data are also presented in terms of the diffractive structure function, F2D (3), of the proton. For fixed Q2 and fixed MX, xP F2D (3) shows a strong rise as xP → 0, where xP is the fraction of the proton momentum carried by the pomeron. For Bjorken-x \u3c 1 × 10-3, xP F2D (3) shows positive log Q2 scaling violations, while for x ≥ 5 × 10-3 negative scaling violations are observed. The diffractive structure function is compatible with being leading twist. The data show that Regge factorisation is broken. © 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved
Exclusive Photoproduction of Ï’mesons at HERA
The exclusive photoproduction reaction γ p → Υ{hooked} p has been studied with the ZEUS experiment in ep collisions at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 468 pb-1. The measurement covers the kinematic range 60 \u3c W \u3c 220 GeV and Q2 \u3c 1 GeV2, where W is the photon-proton centre-of-mass energy and Q2 is the photon virtuality. These results, which represent the analysis of the full ZEUS data sample for this channel, are compared to predictions based on perturbative QCD. © 2009 Elsevier B.V
Search for Events with an Isolated Lepton and Missing Transverse Momentum and a Measurement of W Production at HERA
A search for events with an isolated high-energy lepton and large missing transverse momentum has been performed with the ZEUS detector at HERA using a total integrated luminosity of 504 pb-1. The results agree well with Standard Model predictions. The cross section for production of single W bosons in electron-proton collisions with unpolarised electrons is measured to be 0.89-0.22+0.25 (stat.) ± 0.10 (syst.) pb. © 2009 Elsevier B.V
Measurement of the Longitudinal Proton Structure Function at HERA
The reduced cross sections for ep deep inelastic scattering have been measured with the ZEUS detector at HERA at three different centre-of-mass energies, 318, 251 and 225 GeV. From the cross sections, measured double differentially in Bjorken x and the virtuality, Q 2, the proton structure functions F L and F 2 have been extracted in the region 5 × 10 - 4 \u3c x \u3c 0.007 and 20 \u3c Q 2 \u3c 130 GeV 2. © 2009 Elsevier B.V
Energy Dependence of the Charged Multiplicity in Deep Inelastic Scattering at HERA
The charged multiplicity distributions and the mean charged multiplicity have been investigated in inclusive neutral current deep inelastic ep scattering with the ZEUS detector at HERA, using an integrated luminosity of 38.6 pb-1. The measurements were performed in the current region of the Breit frame, as well as in the current fragmentation region of the hadronic centre-of-mass frame. The KNO-scaling properties of the data were investigated and the energy dependence was studied using different energy scales. The data are compared to results obtained in e+e- collisions and to previous DIS measurements as well as to leading-logarithm parton-shower Monte Carlo predictions. © SISSA 2007
Measurement of the Charm Fragmentation Function in D* Photoproduction at HERA
The charm fragmentation function has been measured in D* photoproduction with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 120 pb-1. The fragmentation function is measured versus z = (E +p||)D* /2Ejet, where E is the energy of the D * meson and p|| is the longitudinal momentum of the D * meson relative to the axis of the associated jet of energy Ejet. Jets were reconstructed using the kT clustering algorithm and required to have transverse energy larger than 9GeV. The D* meson associated with the jet was required to have a transverse momentum larger than 2GeV. The measured function is compared to different fragmentation models incorporated in leading-logarithm Monte Carlo simulations and in a next-to-leading-order QCD calculation. The free parameters in each fragmentation model are fitted to the data. The extracted parameters and the function itself are compared to measurements from e+e-experiments. © SISSA 2009
