High quality factor copper inductors integrated in deep dry-etched quartz substrates
This paper reports on an inductor fabrication method capable to deliver high quality factor (Q) and high self-resonance frequency (SRF) devices using quartz insulating substrates and thick high-conductivity copper lines. Inductors are key devices in RF circuits that, when fabricated on traditional semiconductor substrates, suffer from poor RF performances due to thin metallization and substrate related losses. Many previous works revealed that RF performances are strongly dependent on the limited metallization thickness and on the conductivity of the substrate. In this paper we demonstrate a new fabrication process to improve the Q factor of spiral inductors by patterning thick high conductive metal layers directly in a dielectric substrate. Moreover, we develop and validate accurate equivalent circuit modeling and parameter extraction for the characterization of the fabricated device

Structure of the specific combining ability between two species of Eucalyptus. II. A clustering approach and a multiplicative model
International audienceThe Eucalyptus breeding program of URPPI (a partnership between CIRAD-Fore t, Centre National de la Recherche Forestie re du Congo, and Unite dÕAforestation Industrielle du Congo) consists of a re- ciprocal recurrent selection scheme developed in the Congo between the two species Eucalyptus urophylla and Eucalyptus grandis. Two approaches are proposed in order to model and predict the speciÞc combining ability (SCA) between these species. The clustering ap- proach uses a simultaneous clustering procedure of the two species based on SCA and reveals heterotic groups coherent with the geographical origins of E. urophylla genotypes. The second approach uses a multiplicative model to partition the SCA into three multiplicative terms explaining 95% of the interactio
EXAFS Debye-Waller factors issued from Car-Parrinello molecular dynamics: Application to the fit of oxaliplatin and derivatives
One of the main pitfalls in EXAFS fitting is correlation among parameters, which can lead to unreli- able fits. The use of theoretical Debye-Waller factors (DWs) is a promising way to reduce the number of fitted parameters. When working with molecular dynamics, it is not only possible to evaluate DWs from the statistical distributions issued from the trajectory but also to estimate the distribution an- harmonicity, and to compute simulated average EXAFS spectra that can be fitted as experimental ones, in order to assess the ability of EXAFS fitting to recover information on DWs, as well as other structural and spectroscopical parameters. The case studied is oxaliplatin, a third generation anticancer drug. The structural information and the simulated average spectra were derived from a Car-Parrinello molecular dynamics (CP-MD) trajectory of a compound closely related to oxaliplatin. We present the DWs issued from this simulation and their use, by taking their theoretical absolute values (no DW fitted) or their ratios (one DW fitted). In this second approach, the fit of oxaliplatin experimental spectra leads to DWs values very close to the theoretical ones. This shows that the CP-MD trajectory provides a good representation of the distance distributions for oxaliplatin. Trans- ferability of oxaliplatin DWs, for all relevant single and multiple scattering paths, to closely related compounds is proven for the case of bis(oxalato)platinum(II) and bis(ethylene diamine)platinum(II).Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación CTQ2011-25932Junta de Andalucía P06-FQM-0148
Structure of the specific combining ability between two species of Eucalyptus. I. RAPD data
International audienceWithin the context of the reciprocal recurrent selection scheme developed in 1989 by CIRAD-Fore t on Eucalyptus, RAPD essays were performed to assess the genetic diversity in the two species E. urophylla and E. grandis. The molecular markers were split into two parts: the speciÞc markers (present with di¤erent fre- quencies in the two species) and the common markers (present with similar frequencies in the two species). The study analyses the structure of genetic diversity within and between the two species of Eucalyptus. Dif- ferent genetic distances are worked out for use in pre- diction equations of the individual tree trunk volume of hybrids at 38 months. Each distance is expressed as the sum of the general genetic distance and the speciÞc genetic distance. The general genetic distance based on the double presence plus the double absence of bands seems to be an interesting co-variate to use in a factor regression model. Through this model the distance calculated between species explains the general com- bining ability (GCA) and the speciÞc combining ability (SCA) of the phenotypic character with a global coe¦c- ient of determination of 81.6
Two-fluid barotropic models for powder-snow avalanche flows
14 pages, 1 figure. Accepted to Springer series "Notes on Numerical Fluid Mechanics and Multidisciplinary Design". Other authors papers can be downloaded at http://www.lama.univ-savoie.fr/~dutykh/International audienceIn the present study we discuss several modeling issues of powder-snow avalanche flows. We take a two-fluid modeling paradigm. For the sake of simplicity, we will restrict our attention to barotropic equations. We begin the exposition by a compressible model with two velocities for each fluid. However, this model may become non-hyperbolic and thus, represents serious challenges for numerical methods. To overcome these issues, we derive a single velocity model as a result of a relaxation process. This model can be easily shown to be hyperbolic for any reasonable equation of state. Finally, an incompressible limit of this model is derived
Early lung ultrasonography predicts the occurrence of acute respiratory distress syndrome in blunt trauma patients
PURPOSE: Extent of lung contusion on initial computed tomography (CT) scan predicts the occurrence of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) in blunt chest trauma patients. We hypothesized that lung ultrasonography (LUS) on admission could also predict subsequent ARDS. METHODS: Forty-five blunt trauma patients were prospectively studied. Clinical examination, chest radiography, and LUS were performed on arrival at the emergency room. Lung contusion extent was quantified using a LUS score and compared to CT scan measurements. The ability of the LUS score to predict ARDS was tested using the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC-ROC). The diagnostic accuracy of LUS was compared to that of combined clinical examination and chest radiography for pneumothorax, lung contusion, and hemothorax, with thoracic CT scan as reference. RESULTS: Lung contusion extent assessed by LUS on admission was predictive of the occurrence of ARDS within 72 h (AUC-ROC = 0.78 [95 % CI 0.64-0.92]). The extent of lung contusion on LUS correlated well with CT scan measurements (Spearman\u27s coefficient = 0.82). A LUS score of 6 out of 16 was the best threshold to predict ARDS, with a 58 % [95 % CI 36-77] sensitivity and a 96 % [95 % CI 76-100] specificity. The diagnostic accuracy of LUS was higher than that of combined clinical examination and chest radiography: (AUC-ROC) 0.81 [95 % CI 0.50-1.00] vs. 0.74 [0.48-1.00] (p = 0.24) for pneumothorax, 0.88 [0.76-1.00] vs. 0.69 [0.47-0.92] (p < 0.05) for lung contusion, and 0.84 [0.59-1.00] vs. 0.73 [0.51-0.94] (p < 0.05) for hemothorax. CONCLUSIONS: LUS on admission identifies patients at risk of developing ARDS after blunt trauma. In addition, LUS allows rapid and accurate diagnosis of common traumatic thoracic injuries
The combination of temozolomide-irinotecan regresses a doxorubicin-resistant patient-derived orthotopic xenograft (PDOX) nude-mouse model of recurrent Ewing's sarcoma with a FUS-ERG fusion and CDKN2A deletion: Direction for third-line patient therapy.
The aim of the present study was to determine the usefulness of a patient-derived orthotopic xenograft (PDOX) nude-mouse model of a doxorubicin-resistant metastatic Ewing's sarcoma, with a unique combination of a FUS-ERG fusion and CDKN2A deletion, to identify effective drugs for third-line chemotherapy of the patient. Our previous study showed that cyclin-dependent kinase 4/6 (CDK4/6) and insulin-like growth factor-1 receptor (IGF-1R) inhibitors were effective on the Ewing's sarcoma PDOX, but not doxorubicin, similar to the patient's resistance to doxorubicin. The results of the previous PDOX study were successfully used for second-line therapy of the patiend. In the present study, the PDOX mice established with the Ewing's sarcoma in the right chest wall were randomized into 5 groups when the tumor volume reached 60 mm3: untreated control; gemcitabine combined with docetaxel (intraperitoneal [i.p.] injection, weekly, for 2 weeks); irinotecan combined with temozolomide (irinotecan: i.p. injection; temozolomide: oral administration, daily, for 2 weeks); pazopanib (oral administration, daily, for 2 weeks); yondelis (intravenous injection, weekly, for 2 weeks). All mice were sacrificed on day 15. Body weight and tumor volume were assessed 2 times per week. Tumor weight was measured after sacrifice. Irinotecan combined with temozolomide was the most effective regimen compared to the untreated control group (p=0.022). Gemcitabine combined with docetaxel was also effective (p=0.026). Pazopanib and yondelis did not have significant efficacy compared to the untreated control (p=0.130, p=0.818). These results could be obtained within two months after the physician's request and were used for third-line therapy of the patient
