Partially four-vessel umbilical cord: about a diagnosed case at Panzi hospital

    Get PDF
Umbilical cord malformations are described in the literature; and it's about the umbilical artery and the umbilical vein. There are sometimes cases of a single umbilical artery. In contrast, the number of vessels in the umbilical cord can increase by three to four. A supernumerary umbilical vein is particularly rare and is usually found in association with congenital anomalies; sometimes the supernumerary umbilical vein is associated with no malformation. We report a case of umbilical cord having a four-vessel part diagnosed at the maternity ward of Panzi Hospital, in the town of Bukavu, South Kivu, DR Congo

Background: The objective of this study was to determine the maternal-fetal prognosis of emergency caesarean sections on the scar uterus to contribute to the reduction of maternal-fetal morbidity and mortality. Methods: An analytical cross-sectional study of pregnant women who were observed from admission to discharge including their newborns at Panzi Reference General Hospital in gynecology and obstetrics department. The sample was comprehensive for convenience consisting of 150 deliveries by caesarean section who had previously delivered at least once by caesarean section. (In 4 months, from 01st December 2018 to 31st March 2019). A pre-established survey sheet allowed us to collect the data. For data analysis, SPSS software and Microsoft excel were used. The chi-square test was used at the 0.05 level. Results: A total 95.2% of newborns were found to be of normal weight, their mothers were emergency cesarized but should be programmed and macrosomia was noted in 4.8%; (p >0.05). In addition, 57.1% of urgent caesarean sections scheduled to be performed were performed in female children (p 0.05). On the maternal side, morbidity was dominated by puerperal infections in 16.7% and uterine rupture in 2.4% in the emergency caesarean section, and no maternal deaths occurred in both groups during the study period. Conclusions: Maternal-fetal prognosis was characterized by asphyxia, neonatal infection and two cases of neonatal death. Study did not register a maternal death but we noticed puerperal infections

Macroscopic examination of fetal appendices in delivery room: good practice at Panzi hospital

The review of fetal appendices is described in the literature, and its importance is well established. Indeed, pathological findings in the placenta can provide information on the pathogenesis of the fetus, including intrauterine growth retardation, mental retardation or neurodevelopmental disorders. This helps to understand a child's disability, but also maternal complications such as preeclampsia. Despite the relevant information provided by the various studies, fetal appendices are not systematically examined in several maternity hospitals in our country, DR Congo. We report good practice from the examination of fetal appendices to the maternity ward of Panzi Hospital, in the town of Bukavu, South Kivu, DR Congo

About a uni-cervical unicorn uterus case with vaginal septum

    Get PDF
The unicorn uterus is a common uterine malformation after septate uteri, accounting for 30 to 50% of cases. We report a case of unicorn uterus with an associated vaginal septum discovered during the obstetrical examination of a consultant surgeon for hemorrhage, and exploration of the uterus revealed a uterus during a cesarean section. Maternal-fetal rescue for placenta previa. The interest of this case is to show the double embryological mechanism involved, unilateral aplasia of the muller ducts and the lack of resorption explaining this vaginal septum
