Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) and Personality: Their Relationship to Collegiate Alcohol Abuse
This study serves to examine the effects Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) and personality have on alcohol-related consequences in collegiate students. To investigate these relationships, a survey was distributed to Butler University students via their daily email listserv, and 101 students’ responses were recorded. Using multiple regression analyses, no relationship was found between an individual’s degree of experienced FoMO and alcohol related consequences; however, neuroticism was found to be strongly correlated with FoMO. Additionally, extroversion inversely predicted more alcohol-related consequences, and Greek affiliation was found to be a significant predictor of one’s consequences as well

Design of an Apparatus for Experimental Validation of the Plasma Kinetic Model for Electrostatic Discharge
Electrostatic discharge (ESD) events are a serious safety concern when handling nuclear weapons. Current safety analysis operates under the assumption that sparks produced during threshold ESD events are overdriven and deliver all stored energy to a victim load. This assumption may result in safety procedures that are overly conservative unless a more accurate characterization can be made. Colorado School of Mines (CSM), in partnership with Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), has developed a plasma kinetic model for electrostatic discharge in COMSOL to model threshold ESD events from dielectric surfaces. The first experiment in a two experiment series aiming to validate this model involves quantifying the proportion of energy a target surface receives from a charged surface during a threshold ESD event. Experimental results will be compared to simulations run by CSM. This thesis covers the design of an experimental apparatus to be used in this first series of experiments.Mechanical Engineerin

Mach number and flow-field calibration at the advanced design propeller location on the JetStar airplane
Advanced design propellers on a JetStar aircraft were tested at NASA Ames Research Center's Dryden Flight Research Facility. A calibration of the flow field at the test location to obtain local Mach number and flow direction was performed. A pitot-static probe and flow direction vane installation was installed and tested at Mach 0.3 to 0.8 and altitudes from 3000 m (10,000 ft) to 9100 m (30,000 ft). Local Mach number and flow direction relationships were obtained and related to their noseboom counterparts. Effects of varying angles of sideslip to + or - 3 deg. were investigated
