Temperature dependence of instantons in QCD

    Get PDF
We investigate the temperature dependence of the instanton contents of gluon fields, using unquenched lattice QCD and the cooling method. The instanton size parameter deduced from the correlation function decreases from 0.44fm below the phase-transition temperature TcT_c (150\approx 150MeV) to 0.33fm at 1.3 TcT_c. The instanton charge distribution is Poissonian above TcT_c, but it deviates from the convoluted Poisson at low temperature. The topological susceptibility decreases rapidly below TcT_c, showing the apparent restoration of the U(1)AU(1)_A symmetry already at TTcT \approx T_c.Comment: 8 pages TEX, 3 Postscript figures available at http://www.krl.caltech.edu/preprints/MAP.htm

Testing QCD Sum Rule Techniques on the Lattice

Results for the first test of the ``crude'' QCD continuum model, commonly used in QCD Sum Rule analyses, are presented for baryon correlation functions. The QCD continuum model is found to effectively account for excited state contributions to the short-time regime of two-point correlation functions and allows the isolation of ground state properties. Confusion in the literature surrounding the physics represented in point-to-point correlation functions is also addressed. These results justify the use of the ``crude'' QCD continuum model and lend credence to the results of rigorous QCD Sum Rule analyses.Comment: Discussion of systematic uncertainties augmente

    Holography and Cosmological Singularities

Certain null singularities in ten dimensional supergravity have natural holographic duals in terms of Matrix Theory and generalizations of the AdS/CFT correspondence. In many situations the holographic duals appear to be well defined in regions where the supergravity develops singularities. We describe some recent progress in this area.Comment: Anomaly equation corrected. References adde

SIMPLE ATTACK ANALYSIS OF JUNIOR FEMALE EPEE FENCERS

The objectives of this study were to profile basic fencing variables and to determine the inter-relationship of these variables on attack for junior female epee fencers. The motion was filmed with a video camera (50Hz) during the 6th Asian Youth and Cadet Fencing Championships. Then the selected video materials were processed by Peak Performance System to produce co-ordinates for selected body landmarks. The correlation coefficients of reaction time versus sword separation (r=0.55,

BIOMECHANICAL ANALYSIS OF THE LUNGE TECHNIQUE IN THE ELITE FEMALE FENCERS

The objective of this study is to profile the lunge technique of four female elite epee fencers. The motion was filmed with a video camera (50Hz) during a trial competition against Jiang Su Team. Data were collected and analysed using a Peak Performance System. The lunge in attacking technique was analysed. The kinematic parameters included stride length of lunge, reaction time, horizontal velocity of the centre of gravity and time to reach the target were determined. The centre of gravly and the Made of all four athletes were found to move simultaneously. The findings contradicted the belief of the athletes that the blade leads the movement of the body
