Detection of sheep sororeaction for maedi-visna in State of Sergipe. Abstract - The virus of Maedi Visna belongs to Retroviridae family, gender Lentivirus affects raise of sheep especially at intensive way. Despite variable pathogenicity, is responsible for chronic and debilitating clinical. Widely distributed throughout the world, is linked underestimated the economic impact in raise of sheep, but with inaccurate data in Brazil. This study aimed to obtain the prevalence of Maedi Visna in the municipality of Lagarto / Sergipe. It were analyzed 151 samples of serum taken from sheep of Santa Ines breed, from nine farms, identified as to sex and age of animals. It was used in the test of Imunodifusion in Agar Gel whith microaglutination technique. The prevalence obtained was 0.66%, which represents the first report of Maedi Visna in Sergipe and can be correlated to the close contact between sheep and goats or the submission of animals for agricultural exhibitions where there is the nearest of infected and healthy animals unconscious promoted by producers or the transmission from exotic animals entered in farms for breeding herd. Because the system of creation which animals are kept, confinement of males and semi-intensive system to the others, the disease may not have achieved favorable conditions to spread itself. The results indicates the risk in raised of sheep developed in the state and trade relations with the others, and suggests the need for more extensive studies to better characterize the profile of the state in relation to the occurrence of Lentiviroses of Small Ruminants and implementation of measures for control and prevention spread of this disease

The contribution of age and time-to-death on health care expenditure for out-of-hospital services

Objectives: Controversy persists over the relationships between health care expenditure, time-to-death and age, undermining attempts to generate convincing predictions for policy. This paper explores the relationships between time-to-death (TTD), age and health care expenditure for Australian Medicare-funded, out-of-hospital services in the last five years of life, assessing if the relationship varies across different types of out-of-hospital services. Methods: Medicare Benefit Scheme claims for five years before death in Western Australia (1990 – 2004)pertaining to out-of-hospital primary care, specialist or diagnostic and therapeutic services were used to determine the total and mean per capita health care expenditure (HCE) according to age and TTD. Data were evaluated using univariate linear regression (age) and segmented time-trend regression analysis (time-to-death). Results: Changes to out-of-hospital HCE in the last five years of life did not consistently show a positive association with changes in the number of decedents. Only primary care services demonstrated a linear relationship for HCE and age. For TTD, a linear relationship was observed for all three service types within each retrospective period. Conclusions: This study has identified significant differences in the relationship between age, TTD and out-of- hospital HCE across service type, further highlighting potential shortcomings in methods that use single, all- service, all-cause models to predict future HCE. These results build on our previous study and suggest that such predictions should either use separate models, or models capable of accounting for the different relationships of HCE with TTD and age across types of services in order to predict future HCE more accurately

July 1980Seminar, July 15, 1980, to Summer Course, "Air Transportation -- Management, Economics and Planning" sponsored by Flight Transportation Laboratory/ Center for Advanced Engineering Study Massachusetts Institute of Technology Cambridge, Massachusetts 02139Includes bibliographical referencesIntroduction: I am very honoured to have been invited to talk to you today at such a distinguished place of learning as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. I understand that you have already had talks from several far more distinguished members of the aviation community, including the Chairman of the Civil Aeronautics Board and the Director General of the International Air Transport Association, so by now you are certainly well aware that international aviation has reached a critical, and some would say, crucial stage in its development. In spite of all the talk of deregulation which you will have heard within the last few years, there is nevertheless no doubt that in international aviation airlines remain at the mercy of decisions by governments, and indeed cannot operate unless the governments of the countries between which they wish to fly permit them to do so. There is not time in this lecture to discuss this subject in detail, but you can do no better than read Professor Taneja's excellent book on U.S. international aviation policy* if you wish to obtain a clear understanding of the implications of government policy for international aviation to and from the USA.

5,15-Diaryl-beta-substituted-porphyrinato-manganese(III) chlorides as probes for structure-activity relationships in porphyrin-based epoxidation catalysts

Manganese complexes of 5,15-diaryl-beta-substituted-porphyrins were prepared and their behaviour as oxidation catalysts was studied. The role of the pyrrolic and meso-substituents on the activity and selectivity of these catalysts was studied to reveal new structure-activity relationships in these porphyrin-based epoxidation catalysts. The beneficial effect of the halogen atoms at the meso-phenyls is still observed with these catalysts but, for the first time, a strong dependence on the selectivity of the epoxide production was found to be dependent on the nature of the non-halogen substituents at the beta-pyrrolic positions of the porphyrin. A series of chiral delta-diamines and structurally analogous delta-amino alcohols derived from natural tartaric acid were synthesized and a comparative study of their activity and selectivity in the enantioselective alkylation of aromatic aldehydes was carried out. Our results show that in general the delta-diamines were found to be better chiral inducers than the corresponding delta-amino alcohols. The highest selectivity was observed when benzaldehyde was alkylated in the presence of the benzylic diamine, giving (R)-1-phenylpropanol with an ee of 42%. Copyright © 2008 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd

Covalently immobilized porphyrins as photooxidation catalysts

Porphyrins covalently linked to aminomethylated Merrifield polymers, by chlorosulfonation activation of the porphyrin nucleus, are able to generate singlet oxygen with an efficiency which is related to the spacer between porphyrin and the polymer backbone. Juglone and ascaridole are efficiently produced in the presence of these supported catalysts.http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/B6THR-4NTRT0M-7/1/c9bc37705a3639162941e23c9c85343
