The article presents the prototype of the original telemetric system developed as a part of Warsaw University of Technology Rector's Grant by Science Club of Electrical Engineering in Transport Systems (KNEST) together with the Faculty of Transport. The system was designed for remote monitoring and recording of electric vehicle’s operating parameters. Under the project electric go-kart was a technology demonstrator for which velocity, current, voltage, temperature and GPS coordinates were recorded. Data are transferred in real-time, what allows to monitor all parameters of the electric vehicle on-line. The article describes functional requirements for the developed system and the elements used, including sensors of signals. The authors present steps of transfer of data acquired from the vehicle until their visualization at the remote computer through the developed application. The advantages of the system are long range wireless connectivity, low price and wide upgrade possibilities. The tests performed have shown the correct functioning of the system and its compliance with the assumptions

Study on Effectiveness of Using Column-Oriented Databases in the Processing of Measurement Characteristics of an Electric Vehicle

Electric vehicles are increasingly popular means of transport. One of the most important problems of their operation is to optimize the use of a battery pack. It requires to analyze the operational characteristics of a vehicle in motion, which are stored in a database. If the measurement data are collected from many vehicles, the efficiency of their analysis is important. The objective of this article is to study the possibilities of using modern column-oriented databases in order to increase the efficiency of the analysis of selected operational characteristics of an electric vehicle. The research problem is a comparative analysis of the processing efficiency of selected measurement characteristics of an electric vehicle in relational and column-oriented data structures. Important analytical functions were formulated and recorded in the form of database queries. An experiment consisting in multiple execution of functions packages on various database structures, including a column-oriented one, was carried out. The execution time of packages and the IT system load were collected and analyzed. The analysis of the experiment results allows to conclude that the use of the column-oriented data structures made it possible to shorten the time of executing the functions analyzing the energy consumption by the electric vehicle’s drive system. Depending on the type of the analyzed characteristics of the vehicle and its method of representation in the database, a significant reduction of the analysis time compared to the relational structure was obtained. Also, a decrease in the load on the computer system during data processing on the column-oriented structures was noted. The use of the column-oriented databases in the processing and analysis of measurement operational characteristics of electric vehicles is justified and it can bring measurable effects. It should be considered that the effectiveness of solving depends on the number of the analyzed characteristics and the format of their representation in the computer

Practice of geo-radar research in the Republic of Kazakhstan

The article considers the issues of applying ground penetrating radar (GPR) technologies for engineering purposes concerning subsurface research. It describes the field of application of GPR research during road construction and operation and the advantages and disadvantages of this type of engineering survey. It presents comparative data on the accuracy (inaccuracy) of existing GPR control methods applied to determine the thickness of the monolithic pavement layers in Europe, CIS, and the USA. The main provisions of the GPR survey procedure are described, including four main stages: the analysis of initial materials of surveyed section and equipment preparation; GPR survey; geological verification; processing and interpreting of radargrams; and the preparation of a report. Geophysical works were performed using the geo-radar of the OKO series as part of the road measuring complex DVK-05 on the section of the Astana-Petropavlovsk A-1 highway with cement concrete pavement and on the section of the R-12 "Kokshetau - Atbasar" with asphalt pavement. The example of a radargram and the core sample of a cement concrete pavement taken during geological verification of the thickness of a monolithic layer is presented. Graphs of variation in the thickness of pavement layers by radargrams of longitudinal passages in the indicated road sections with the assumptions about the nature of the heterogeneity of the obtained values are given. The obtained results on the thickness of monolithic layers (cement concrete and asphalt concrete) were assessed on the criteria of quantitative deviation from the required standard value. Recommendations were provided to address positive deviations in the thickness of monolithic pavement layers at various stages of the road survey

Traffic Light Priority for Trams in Warsaw as a Tool for Transport Policy and Reduction of Energy Consumption

The article presents an analysis of priority solutions for trams at a selected sequence of intersections in Warsaw (Poland). An analysis of the literature has shown the topicality of this issue. A computer simulation model of a coordinated sequence of intersections was constructed. Three test scenarios were designed: the existing control system, the new coordinated fixed-time control system, and the adaptive control system with active priority. In the simulation process, detailed travel characteristics of trams and other traffic participants in a selected section were obtained for the three varying scenarios. Electric energy consumption for traction needs and pollutant emissions was then estimated for each of the variants. It was concluded that for the analyzed configuration, implementation of the adaptive priority will result in a reduction of tram time losses by up to 25%, a reduction in energy consumption by up to 23%, and a reduction in the emission of pollutants from individual vehicles by up to 3% in relation to the original variant. The conducted research may be the basis for a comprehensive method of assessing the effectiveness of applying the adaptative priority when designing new tramway lines and modernizing the existing ones
