Aseptic Meningitis Associated with Intravenous Immunoglobulin
Aseptic meningitis can be an adverse drug reaction to intravenous immunoglobulin. We describe a previously healthy 4-yearold
boy, admitted for idiopathic thrombocytopaenic purpura. He received two infusions of intravenous immunoglobulin. Four hours after the last administration the patient developed a meningeal syndrome. Analysis of cerebrospinal fluid revealed 500 cells/μl (predominantly neutrophils) and normal biochemistry. Bacteriological and virological tests were negative. After 48h he was asymptomatic. Given the absence of other aetiological factors and the temporal relationship between the administration of immunoglobulin and the development of symptoms, we believe the patient had an aseptic meningitis related to intravenous
immunoglobulin. This therapy may cause headache, fever and vomiting; however, lumbar puncture is not usually performed, so this complication may be underdiagnosed
The Geometry of Entanglement Sudden Death
In open quantum systems, entanglement can vanish faster than coherence. This
phenomenon is usually called sudden death of entanglement. In this paper sudden
death of entanglement is discussed from a geometrical point of view, in the
context of two qubits. A classification of possible scenarios is presented,
with important known examples classified. Theoretical and experimental
construction of other examples is suggested as well as large dimensional and
multipartite versions of the effect.Comment: 6 pages, 2 figures, references added, initial paragraph corrected,

J Regularization Improves Imbalanced Multiclass Segmentation
We propose a new loss formulation to further advance the multiclass segmentation of cluttered cells under weakly supervised conditions. When adding a Youden's J statistic regularization term to the cross entropy loss we improve the separation of touching and immediate cells, obtaining sharp segmentation boundaries with high adequacy. This regularization intrinsically supports class imbalance thus eliminating the necessity of explicitly using weights to balance training. Simulations demonstrate this capability and show how the regularization leads to correct results by helping advancing the optimization when cross entropy stagnates. We build upon our previous work on multiclass segmentation by adding yet another training class representing gaps between adjacent cells. This addition helps the classifier identify narrow gaps as background and no longer as touching regions. We present results of our methods for 2D and 3D images, from bright field images to confocal stacks containing different types of cells, and we show that they accurately segment individual cells after training with a limited number of images, some of which are poorly annotated
Theory of Stellar Oscillations
In recent years, astronomers have witnessed major progresses in the field of
stellar physics. This was made possible thanks to the combination of a solid
theoretical understanding of the phenomena of stellar pulsations and the
availability of a tremendous amount of exquisite space-based asteroseismic
data. In this context, this chapter reviews the basic theory of stellar
pulsations, considering small, adiabatic perturbations to a static, spherically
symmetric equilibrium. It starts with a brief discussion of the solar
oscillation spectrum, followed by the setting of the theoretical problem,
including the presentation of the equations of hydrodynamics, their
perturbation, and a discussion of the functional form of the solutions.
Emphasis is put on the physical properties of the different types of modes, in
particular acoustic (p-) and gravity (g-) modes and their propagation cavities.
The surface (f-) mode solutions are also discussed. While not attempting to be
comprehensive, it is hoped that the summary presented in this chapter addresses
the most important theoretical aspects that are required for a solid start in
stellar pulsations research.Comment: Lecture presented at the IVth Azores International Advanced School in

Thermal performance of fly ash geopolymeric mortars containing phase change materials
This paper reports experimental results on the thermal performance of fly ash-based
geopolymeric mortars containing different percentages of phase change materials
(PCMs). These materials have a twofold eco-efficient positive impact. On one hand,
the geopolymeric mortar is based on industrial waste material. And on the other
hand, the mortars with PCM have the capacity to enhance the thermal performance
of the buildings. Several geopolymeric mortars with different PCM percentages
(10%, 20%, 30%) were studied for thermal conductivity and thermal energy storageinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
