Nová fáze regionálního rozvoje v ČR?

The article aims to identify the development phases in the process of the regional differentiation in the Czech Republic after 1989, & examines whether this differentiation trend is currently changing. The assumption the article's hypothesis is based on is that during recent development the basic 'parameters' of the principal features of the country's regional structure have been stabilized amidst the conditions of parliamentary democracy & a market economy. Unlike the first phases of socio- economic transition, when differentiating trends prevailed, a certain degree of stabilization can now be assumed, alongside the emergence of new trends. The development of regional differences was analyzed using indicators of GDP, the unemployment rate, entrepreneurial activity, & tax revenue from self- employed physical persons. The findings show that over the course of the 1990s regional differences intensified at both the mezo- regional (regional) level & the micro- regional level. It was also confirmed that at the turn of the millennium the phase of divergent regional development ended, & since that time regional differences have hovered around the same level

Jsou výzkum, vývoj a inovaceklíčové procesy (nerovnoměrného) regionálního rozvoje? =Are research, development and innovations key processes of uneven regional development?

Research, development and innovations (R&D&I) are widely considered as key factors enhancing economic development of both nations and regions. R&D&I activities are, however, strongly concentrated in few areas. Therefore, one might consider disparities in R&D potential and its exploitation as a crucial source of regional disparities. Nevertheless, analysing spatial patterns of R&D&I activities brings several obstacles. These consist particularly in limited data available for description of processes linked to the translation of R&D&I activities into economic growth. This paper intends to search for suitable data and indicators analysing microdata from statistical survey on R&D and for more accurate usage for them as their most often aggregate use might lead to inaccurate or misleading conclusions213

The West-East gradient and regional development :the case ot the Czech RepubIic

This paper empirically examines the role of West-East gradient for regional development. Despite problems with consistency of the data, the authors made an attempt to establish long-term time series of at least basic data covering the following spheres: demography, economy and social sphere. The results are rather varied, but the main conclusion is that despite a clear manifestation of the role of West-East gradient in several spheres, there is no fatalism (determinism) stemming from geographic position of the regions but quite a wide space for activity of individual actors189210
