Strategies and Tools for Digital Repository Selection and Migration

    Get PDF
As digital repositories evolve, so to do the needs of institutions who employ them. Increasingly institutions are faced with the daunting task of migrating content from one repository to another. But what strategies exist to help institutions identify suitable repositories and effectively and efficiently plan and execute a migration? This workshop aims to explore the issues and strategies of repository (re)selection and migration. Participants will learn about the different phases of a migration process including: system evaluation and selection, migration planning, and implementation strategies and tools. Throughout the workshop, participants will actively explore these phases as they relate to their organizational context and come away with questions and next steps for planning for system selection and/or a migration at their own institution. The workshop will be led by members of the Bridge2Hyku (B2H) Project, an Institute for Museum and Library Services (IMLS) National Leadership/Project Grant (LG-70-17-0217-17) initiative led by UH Libraries to support the creation of the B2H Toolkit- a suite of resources for migration planning and implementation

    No full text
Bridge2Hyku is an IMLS-funded grant project that is building a migration toolkit to assist institutions interested in migrating their digital content to Hyku. The toolkit contains general guidance for migration planning, documentation for software that enables efficient and effective data migration, and an introduction to the Hyku platform. This presentation will provide an overview of the project goals and timeline, an update on project progress, and information about how to contribute to the Bridge2Hyku migration toolkit.Librarie

What You See is What You Forget: Alcohol Cue Exposure, Affect, and the Misinformation Effect

    No full text
Previous research has suggested that both alcohol cues and positive affect increase the tendency to incorporate false information into memory. This series of studies sought to determine if affect mediates the influence of alcohol cues on incorporation of false information into memory. Initially, a pilot study was completed to determine the individual differences that predict which individuals experience a heightening of positive affect following visualization exercises involving alcoholic beverages. Next, a study was conducted to determine if this affect increase from exposure to alcohol cues leads to increased acceptance of misinformation into memory. Participants' memories were tested while they were in the presence of an alcoholic or control beverage, rather than merely visualizing these beverages. The pilot study found that individuals engaging in alcohol thoughts exhibited a lower reduction in positive affect compared to those in the control condition. In addition, the relationship between cue exposure and positive affect was moderated by alcohol cognitions, such that individuals with stronger positive alcohol outcome expectancies experienced a greater boost in positive affect after engaging in an alcohol imagery exercise. However in study 1, there was no relationship between exposure to alcohol cues and change in positive affect. In addition, there was no influence of alcohol cognitions on change in affect. Cue exposure, alcohol cognition, and change in positive affect also showed no influence on responses to misinformation items. Regardless of cue type exposure, an overall misinformation effect was observed, whereas individuals made more errors on misinformation items while at the same time expressing more confidence in their responses to misinformation items

    Lessons from Bridge2Hyku Phase One

    No full text
As part of Phase One of the Bridge2Hyku project, the project team at University of Houston will be creating reports on the digital collection environments at various institutions and on the requirements and limitations of the Hyku platform. Both of these reports will guide toolkit development in later phases of this project. These reports will be made available on the Bridge2Hyku website, that will become a community center of sorts for any institutions that need guidance on content migrations in the future. This poster will highlight reports and will also provide information about future directions for B2H as well as information for institutions who are interested in getting involved in the B2H community.Librarie

You Are Not Alone: Statistics from Bridge2Hyku’s digital collections environment data collection survey

    No full text
As part of the deliverables for phase one of the Bridge2Hyku [B2H] project, funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (LG-70-17-0217-17), the project team at the University of Houston surveyed grant partner institutions about their digital collections. The survey was designed to collect data related to, but not limited to: content types, metadata schema, digital collection production workflows, preservation considerations, stakeholder considerations, and more. The poster will showcase statistics gleaned from the survey that highlight trends in the overall preparedness, or unpreparedness, of institutions transitioning their data in the digital space, particularly onto open source platforms.Librarie
