No full text
The purpose of our study was to identify the dental-alveolar phenomena making up for skeletal imbalances due to malocclusion Class II, using the lateral cephalometry method. The research was carried out on 52 patients (29 girls and 23 boys), aged between 7 and 18 years, chosen from 113 cases clinically diagnosed with malocclusion Class II Angle. The lateral cephalometrie images were processed using the ORTHALIS software, whereas the cephalometric measurements were conducted by means of the Tweed and Steiner method. The databases and statistical analyses were carried out using the SPSS 16.0 software for Windows and descriptive statistics means. The results obtained reveal 5 skeletal patterns of Class II. The dental-alveolar compensation phenomena occurring in the Class II skeletal patterns associated with the skeletal growing patterns identified in the study group took a wide variety of dental-alveolar forms. The wide variety of clinical manifestations and expressions at the skeletal and dental-alveolar levels fully supports the opinion according to which malocclusions Class II Angle are far from being a mere clinical entity, but rather a complex craniodental-maxillo-facial syndrom

Moebius Syndrome represents a congenital malformation that affects the facial and oculomotor cranial nerves. The growing severity of the clinical manifestations of the disease with age and the fact that its cause is not yet known prompted us to do this study. The materials used consisted of histologic material from two abortion products and of three pediatric patients suffering of this disease. Methods used comprised of usual stains for connective tissue and MRI scans. The results show reticular organization and incomplete insertions as specific histological markers, which cannot be noticed radiologically. Current studies paint a new picture of the architectonics of the superficial musculoaponeurotic system with specific regional particularities. The histologic study of SMAS needs to be corelated with clinical data obtained from patients and continued with larger, statistically significant cohorts

(1) Background: Infection control should be one of the main objectives in the comprehensive medical approach. (2) Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted from June–July 2022. A questionnaire including 22 questions with multiple answers was applied online to 202 subjects selected at random. The questionnaire collected data on the subjects’ knowledge about protective measures against airborne infections. For this study, a descriptive statistic was performed. Pearson’s Chi-square test was used for data comparison. (3) Results: Only 61.39% (124) of the subjects consider that protective equipment is mandatory for the dental team, 40.10% (81) know to a very large extent and 44.06% (89) to a large extent that when talking, a respiratory infection can be transmitted. A rather large percentage of the subjects take into account the cost of the protective mask to a very large extent 39.60% (80). Only 30.20% (61) of the subjects would vaccinate to a very large extent and 24.75% (50) to a large extent against micro-organisms transmitted by air p > 0.05. (4) Conclusions: Most people know the aspects related to air decontamination, the priority being the promotion of control methods of airborne infections, and it is necessary to improve the level of knowledge on a large scale within the population

Aim of study: The interceptive orthodontic treatment is defined as any treatment procedure that eliminates or reduces the severity of a developing malocclusion. Interceptive orthodontics is a good solution in early mixed dentition for improving malocclusion even if it does not solve it completely. Material and methods: In this paper are presented clinical cases of child patients with malocclusions treated in the early period of mixed dentition with functional aplliances and removable appliances, which determinated the stimulation of alveolar development and reduced the severity of dental crowding in the permanent dentition. Results: Through the presented cases we can advocate that the interceptive orthodontic treatment during the mixed dentition is effective and improve the occlusal relashionship which can help the normal growth of the facial skeleton. Conclusions: The interceptive orthodontics is a part of orthodontic treatment used for a recognize and eliminate potential irregularities and malpositions in development of dento-facial apparatus

Background and Objectives: To determine whether there are changes in the cephalometric characteristics of the upper airways and hyoid bone, in patients diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) compared to a healthy control group. Material and Methods: This retrospective case–control study included 24 patients diagnosed with OSAS (apnea–hypopnea index (AHI) > 5 obtained after polysomnography) and 24 healthy subjects as a control group that completed the STOP-Bang questionnaire to determine whether they had OSAS. Lateral cephalometric examinations were recommended for all these patients. The software used for the cephalogram interpretation was CS 3D Imaging and CS Airway imaging from Carestream Dental. Results: The subjects with OSAS had a smaller superior posterior airway space (SPAS), with an average of 10.32 mm compared to a 12.20 mm mean in the control group (p = 0.03). Patients with OSAS, had a lowered middle airway space (MAS) with a mean of 7.96 mm in the OSAS group and a 10.96 mm mean in the control group (p = 0.00). All the measurements made for the hyoid bone, such as—H-MnP, H-C3, and H-B—showed increased values (means of 26.31 mm, 39.08 mm, 60.05 mm, respectively), for the OSAS group (p = 0.00). Conclusions: Patients suffering from OSAS had reduced dimensions of the SPAS and MAS values. The hyoid bone had a more inferior position in the study group (with increased values for H-MnP, H-C3, and H-B) compared to the control group

The medical care sector is viewed as having a high level of risk, and the provision of health services is considered particularly dangerous. Aim: The purpose of this study was to evaluate how patients perceive the elements that contribute to accessing quality medical services. Material and methods: To assess the attitude and knowledge of the population regarding infection control in dental clinics, we initiated a questionnaire-based study with 25 questions involving 75 patients who presented for dental treatments at two private clinics in Iași. The response rate was 96%. Results: 27% of patients discussed with the dentist about the risk of illness through blood-borne diseases during dental treatments. 65.5% of the subjects affirm that a dentist infected with HIV can provide dental treatments under the conditions of using protective equipment. All consider gloves, masks, and caps to be indispensable for the doctor when providing treatment. 87.6% of them consider that the nurse can be involved in the transmission of diseases. The main practices considered important by patients in preventing illness are the sterilization of instruments (100%) and the doctor washing their hands (86.2%), and to a lesser extent, waste handling (47.5%) and surface disinfection (100%). Conclusion: Patients have a relatively good perception regarding the factors that can influence the safety of the medical act in dental practice. The medical team has the responsibility to inform the patient in order to reduce the risk of unpleasant events occurring in the dental office
