A Study of the Wahl Peptase Method
An interest was first aroused in this problem by Mr. Lawrence Ehrnst of the Froedtert Malting Company who has been interested for some time in devising a method for determining the peptic power of malt. Through the cooperation of Dr. J. R. Koch, the author\u27s major professor, a study of the Wahl Peptase Test was made possible.
Anyone who attempts the study of enzymes is confronted with the various factors inhibiting enzyme action. Also, the seemingly contradictory results of different investigators is somewhat confusing. This may be attributed to the difficulty of repeating identical experimental conditions, for enzymes are very sensitive to outside factors which affect enzyme action.
This work on the analysis of the Wahl method is but a part of a series of investigations to be carried on in an attempt to obtain a satisfactory test for the peptic power of malt. A complete study of the Wahl method was impossible because of the limited time
MAT/MATE Acts
The DATA Waiver (or X waiver) requirement was removed in the Mainstreaming Addiction Treatment (MAT) Act, meaning providers no longer have to register with the DEA to prescribe buprenorphine as part of treatment for opioid use disorder (OUD). Federally, providers already authorized to prescribe controlled substances can now prescribe buprenorphine for OUD, but providers must still be aware of and follow any practicing state regulations. Whereas state law does not conflict with federal requirements for physicians, Tennessee state law still imposes limitations on buprenorphine prescribing for nurse practitioners (NPs) and physician assistants (PAs). With the X-waiver removal, the United States’ overdose rates could possibly decline, given the results seen in other countries
Prior Authorizations and Addiction Treatment
Key Points Concerns about prior authorizations have grown given research demonstrating inconsistent coverage and review policies across insurers, interruptions to care, high provider burden and higher healthcare costs. Tennessee policymakers and insurers have recently taken appropriate measures to ease the concerns and minizine unnecessary barriers. TennCare changed their policy on buprenorphine allowances in May 2023, essentially removing the prior authorization barrier for buprenorphine/naloxone preferred products. This is a significant step for Tennesseans given that the research shows that once the prior authorization process was removed for medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD), patients with opioid use disorder (OUD) were 47 percent less likely to relapse, hospital and emergency use decreased, and healthcare costs decreased
Limits on WWgamma and WWZ Couplings from W Boson Pair Production
The results of a search for W boson pair production in pbar-p collisions at
sqrt{s}=1.8 TeV with subsequent decay to emu, ee, and mumu channels are
presented. Five candidate events are observed with an expected background of
3.1+-0.4 events for an integrated luminosity of approximately 97 pb^{-1}.
Limits on the anomalous couplings are obtained from a maximum likelihood fit of
the E_T spectra of the leptons in the candidate events. Assuming identical
WWgamma and WWZ couplings, the 95 % C.L. limits are -0.62<Delta_kappa<0.77
(lambda = 0) and -0.53<lambda<0.56 (Delta_kappa = 0) for a form factor scale
Lambda = 1.5 TeV.Comment: 10 pages, 1 figure, submitted to Physical Review
Differential Production Cross Section of Z Bosons as a Function of Transverse Momentum at sqrt{s}=1.8 TeV
We present a measurement of the transverse momentum distribution of Z bosons
produced in ppbar collisions at sqrt{s}=1.8 TeV using data collected by the D0
experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider during 1994--1996. We find good
agreement between our data and a current resummation calculation. We also use
our data to extract values of the non-perturbative parameters for a particular
version of the resummation formalism, obtaining significantly more precise
values than previous determinations.Comment: 10 pages, 2 figures, submitted to Phys. Rev. Letters v2 has margin

Search for Squarks and Gluinos in Events Containing Jets and a Large Imbalance in Transverse Energy
Using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 79 pb-1, D0 has
searched for events containing multiple jets and large missing transverse
energy in pbar-p collisions at sqrt(s)=1.8 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron
collider. Observing no significant excess beyond what is expected from the
standard model, we set limits on the masses of squarks and gluinos and on the
model parameters m_0 and m_1/2, in the framework of the minimal low-energy
supergravity models of supersymmetry. For tan(beta) = 2 and A_0 = 0, with mu <
0, we exclude all models with m_squark < 250 GeV/c^2. For models with equal
squark and gluino masses, we exclude m < 260 GeV/c^2.Comment: 10 pages, 3 figures, Submitted to PRL, Fixed typo on page bottom of

Search for First Generation Scalar Leptoquark Pairs in ppbar Collisions at sqrt(s)=1.8 TeV
We have searched for first generation scalar leptoquark (LQ) pairs in the
enu+jets channel using ppbar collider data (integrated luminosity= 115 pb^-1)
collected by the DZero experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron during 1992-96. The
analysis yields no candidate events. We combine the results with those from the
ee+jets and nunu+jets channels to obtain 95% confidence level (CL) upper limits
on the LQ pair production cross section as a function of mass and of beta, the
branching fraction to a charged lepton. Comparing with the next-to-leading
order theory, we set 95% CL lower limits on the LQ mass of 225, 204, and 79
GeV/c^2 for beta=1, 1/2, and 0, respectively.Comment: 14 pages, 4 figures, submitted to Physical Review Letters Replaced to

Direct Measurement of the Top Quark Mass at D0
We determine the top quark mass m_t using t-tbar pairs produced in the D0
detector by \sqrt{s} = 1.8 TeV p-pbar collisions in a 125 pb^-1 exposure at the
Fermilab Tevatron. We make a two constraint fit to m_t in t-tbar -> b W^+bbar
W^- final states with one W boson decaying to q-qbar and the other to e-nu or
mu-nu. Likelihood fits to the data yield m_t(l+jets) = 173.3 +- 5.6 (stat) +-
5.5 (syst) GeV/c^2. When this result is combined with an analysis of events in
which both W bosons decay into leptons, we obtain m_t = 172.1 +- 5.2 (stat) +-
4.9 (syst) GeV/c^2. An alternate analysis, using three constraint fits to fixed
top quark masses, gives m_t(l+jets) = 176.0 +- 7.9 (stat) +- 4.8 (syst)
GeV/C^2, consistent with the above result. Studies of kinematic distributions
of the top quark candidates are also presented.Comment: 43 pages, 53 figures, 33 tables. RevTeX. Submitted to Phys. Rev.
Search for bottom squarks in pbarp collisions at sqrt(s)=1.8 TeV
We report on a search for bottom squarks produced in pbarp collisions at
sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV using the D0 detector at Fermilab. Bottom squarks are assumed
to be produced in pairs and to decay to the lightest supersymmetric particle
(LSP) and a b quark with branching fraction of 100%. The LSP is assumed to be
the lightest neutralino and stable. We set limits on the production cross
section as a function of bottom squark mass and LSP mass.Comment: 5 pages, Latex. submitted 3-12-1999 to PRD - Rapid Communicatio
Search for Charged Higgs Bosons in Decays of Top Quark Pairs
We present a search for charged Higgs bosons in decays of pair-produced top
quarks using 109.2 +- 5.8 pb^-1 of data recorded from ppbar collisions at
sqrt{s} = 1.8 TeV by the D0 detector during 1992-96 at the Fermilab Tevatron.
No evidence is found for charged Higgs production, and most parts of the
[m(H+),tan(beta)] parameter space where the decay t -> bH+ has a branching
fraction close to or larger than that for t -> bW+ are excluded at 95%
confidence level. Assuming m(t) = 175 GeV and sigma(ppbar -> ttbar) = 5.5 pb,
for m(H+) = 60 GeV, we exclude tan(beta) 40.9.Comment: 11 pages, 3 figures, submitted to PR
