    The determination of chromiumspecies in naturalwaters

    A method for the&nbsp;determination&nbsp;of&nbsp;chromiumspecies&nbsp;has been developed and successfully applied to both fresh and sea&nbsp;water&nbsp;samples. The method utilizes pre-concentration of total&nbsp;chromium,&nbsp;chromium(ni) and particulate&nbsp;chromium&nbsp;at&nbsp;natural&nbsp;pH with accurate and precise analysis by a single flameless atomic absorption procedure. A minimal blank allows for a reliable detection limit of 0.02 nM, which is sufficient for most&nbsp;naturalwaters&nbsp;with&nbsp;chromium&nbsp;concentrations in the range 0.01&ndash;10 nM. Immediate shipboard preconcentration of the samples minimizes storage problems. The method is simple and rapid; 20 samples can be analysed in duplicate for total&nbsp;chromium,&nbsp;chromium(III) and particulate&nbsp;chromium&nbsp;in one day with routinely available reagents and equipment.</span

    Immigration, Global Poverty and the Right to Stay

    This article questions the use of immigration as a tool to counter global poverty. It argues that poor people have a human right to stay in their home state, which entitles them to receive development assistance without the necessity of migrating abroad. The article thus rejects a popular view in the philosophical literature on immigration which holds that rich states are free to choose between assisting poor people in their home states and admitting them as immigrants when fulfilling duties to assist the global poor. Since the human right to stay is entailed by values that feature prominently in the philosophical debate on immigration, the article further contends that participants in that debate have particular reason to reject the popular ‘choice view’ and endorse the alternative position presented in the article
