: Rocket species are rich in nutrients with well-known bioactive activity, but their content depends on several factors, such as plant-UV radiation interaction. In this work, we measured the production of nutritional elements in wild rocket (Diplotaxis tenuifolia L.) leaves as a function of exposure to UV-B radiation by adopting a combined approach. The wild rocket plants were grown under three greenhouse cover films (A, B, and C) having different transmittivity to UV-B and the fresh-cut leaves were exposed to UV-B in postharvest for 45, 150, 330, and 660 s. The content of chlorophyll, carotenoids, phenolic compounds, ascorbic acid, and the antioxidant activity were determined. Chlorophyll, carotenoids, and total phenolic content were significantly increased by the combination of Film C and treatment with UV-B for 45 s. The predominant phenolic compounds were kaempferol, isorhamnetin, and quercetin. Film C also elicited an increase in ascorbic acid (the most abundant antioxidant compound in the range 374-1199 per 100 g of dry matter) and antioxidant activity. These findings highlighted an increase in bioactive compound content in the wild rocket when it was cultivated under Film C (diffused light film with a tailored UV-B transmission dose) and treated with UV-B radiation for 45 s postharvest, corresponding to an energy dose of 0.2 KJ m-2

Combined use of 3D metric surveys and non-invasive geophysical surveys at the Stylite Tower (Umm ar-Rasas, Jordan).

The Stylite Tower is part of the UNESCO archaeological site of Umm ar−Rasas (Jordan). It represents a unicum in its category and has a fundamental value for the Jordanian Cultural Heritage as a symbol and an emblem of Jordan’s history and culture. The monument has evident signs of deterioration that appear in the form of substantial detachments of the plaster, water infiltration, erosion and fractures. Given the need to preserve this important ancient monument and for public safety reasons, a high−detail analysis of the Tower has been achieved through the realization of 3D geometrical surveys (Photogrammetry and Laser Scanner) and non−invasive geophysical surveys (using Ground Penetrating Radar Technique). The use of non−destructive testing techniques has provided encouraging results for the struc− tural planning of diagnostic, consolidation and restoration activities

Epilepsy and multiple sclerosis: Review of literature and our epilepsy center's experience

Aim of this paper is to examine the occurrence of epileptic seizures (ES) in our population of patients with definite Multiple sclerosis (MS) and to evaluate their clinical, EEG and MRI findings. Nine out our 250 (3.6%) MS patients experienced ES. In 3 cases, ES appeared within 1-2 yrs ("early-onset"), and in other 3 after 10 yrs ("late-onset") after MS diagnosis. In all pts but one, seizures were partial, usually with secondarily generalization. Prognosis of Epilepsy during MS seems to be quite favourable but the choice of the AED and whether to treat epileptic MS pts with IFNβ-1a or not, remain matter of debate
