Development status of a Laue lens project for gamma-ray astronomy
We report the status of the HAXTEL project, devoted to perform a design study
and the development of a Laue lens prototype. After a summary of the major
results of the design study, the approach adopted to develop a Demonstration
Model of a Laue lens is discussed, the set up described, and some results

"Electro-flux" effect in superconducting hybrid Aharonov-Bohm rings
We have extended the circuit theory of Andreev conductance [Phys.~Rev.~Lett.
{\bf 73}, 1420 (1994)] to diffusive superconducting hybrid structures that
contain an Aharonov-Bohm ring. The electrostatic potential distribution in the
system is predicted to be flux-dependent with a period of the superconducting
flux quantum . When at least one tunnel barrier is present, the

New results on focusing of gamma-rays with Laue lenses
We report on new results on the development activity of broad band Laue
lenses for hard X-/gamma-ray astronomy (70/100-600 keV). After the development
of a first prototype, whose performance was presented at the SPIE conference on
Astronomical Telescopes held last year in Marseille (Frontera et al. 2008), we
have improved the lens assembling technology. We present the development status

Exploring the Hard X-/soft gamma-ray Continuum Spectra with Laue Lenses
The history of X-ray astronomy has shown that any advancement in our
knowledge of the X-ray sky is strictly related to an increase in instrument
sensitivity. At energies above 60 keV, there are interesting prospects for
greatly improving the limiting sensitivity of the current generation of direct
viewing telescopes (with or without coded masks), offered by the use of Laue
lenses. We will discuss below the development status of a Hard X-Ray focusing
Telescope (HAXTEL) based on Laue lenses with a broad bandpass (from 60 to 600
keV) for the study of the X-ray continuum of celestial sources. We show two
examplesof multi-lens configurations with expected sensitivity orders of
magnitude better ( photons cm s keV
at 200 keV) than that achieved so far. With this unprecedented sensitivity,

Delay-dependent amplification of a probe pulse via stimulated Rayleigh scattering
Stimulated Rayleigh scattering of pump and probe light pulses of close
carrier frequencies is considered. A nonzero time delay between the two pulses
is shown to give rise to amplification of the delayed (probe) pulse accompanied
by attenuation of the pump, both on resonance and off resonance. In either
case, phase-matching effects are shown to provide a sufficiently large gain,
which can exceed significantly direct one-photon-absorption losses
Conductance fluctuations in mesoscopic normal-metal/superconductor samples
We study the magnetoconductance fluctuations of mesoscopic
normal-metal/superconductor (NS) samples consisting of a gold-wire in contact
with a niobium film. The magnetic field strength is varied over a wide range,
including values that are larger than the upper critical field B_c2 of niobium.
In agreement with recent theoretical predictions we find that in the NS sample
the rms of the conductance fluctuations (CF) is by a factor of 2.8 +/- 0.4
larger than in the high field regime where the entire system is driven normal

Quantum damping of position due to energy measurements
Quantum theory for measurements of energy is introduced and its consequences
for the average position of monitored dynamical systems are analyzed. It turns
out that energy measurements lead to a localization of the expectation values
of other observables. This is manifested, in the case of position, as a damping
of the motion without classical analogue. Quantum damping of position for an
atom bouncing on a reflecting surface in presence of a homogeneous
gravitational field is dealt in detail and the connection with an experiment
already performed in the classical regime is studied. We show that quantum
damping is testable provided that the same measurement strength obtained in the
experimental verification of the quantum Zeno effect in atomic spectroscopy [W.

Effects of an intervention program for female victims of intimate partner violence on psychological symptoms and perceived social support
Background: Research has documented severe mental health problems in female victims of intimate partner violence (IPV). Therefore, providing effective treatment is pivotal. Few studies have investigated the effects of intervention programs on reducing the harmful consequences of IPV. Objective: The present study examined the effects of a specific three-phase intervention program for female victims of IPV on psychological symptoms (PTSD, anxiety, and depression) and perceived social support. Given that many of the women dropped out before and during the intervention program, potential differences in initial levels of psychological symptoms, perceived social support, as well as descriptive variables were explored between the women who completed the whole program and the groups of women who dropped out prematurely. Method: The initial sample consisted of 212 female victims of IPV. Symptoms of PTSD, depression, anxiety, and level of perceived social support were measured with validated scales before the start of the intervention and after completion of each treatment phase. Results: Results showed a significant effect of the intervention program on reducing psychological symptoms and increasing levels of perceived social support. Effect sizes ranged from medium to very high. Significant positive effects were found for each of the treatment phases. There were no significant differences between the women who completed the whole program and those women who dropped out prematurely in terms of initial level of symptoms and perceived social support as well as descriptive characteristics. Conclusions: Specifically developed intervention programs for female victims of IPV are effective in reducing the harmful personal consequences of IPV. Future studies should consider employing controlled study designs and address the issue of high drop out rates found in intervention studies
Wave: A New Family of Trapdoor One-Way Preimage Sampleable Functions Based on Codes
We present here a new family of trapdoor one-way Preimage Sampleable
Functions (PSF) based on codes, the Wave-PSF family. The trapdoor function is
one-way under two computational assumptions: the hardness of generic decoding
for high weights and the indistinguishability of generalized -codes.
Our proof follows the GPV strategy [GPV08]. By including rejection sampling, we
ensure the proper distribution for the trapdoor inverse output. The domain
sampling property of our family is ensured by using and proving a variant of
the left-over hash lemma. We instantiate the new Wave-PSF family with ternary
generalized -codes to design a "hash-and-sign" signature scheme which
achieves existential unforgeability under adaptive chosen message attacks
(EUF-CMA) in the random oracle model. For 128 bits of classical security,
signature sizes are in the order of 15 thousand bits, the public key size in
the order of 4 megabytes, and the rejection rate is limited to one rejection
