The Operator Spectrum of the Six-dimensional (1,0) Theory
We study the large N operator spectrum of the (1,0) superconformal chiral
six-dimensional theory with E_8 global symmetry. This spectrum is dual to the
Kaluza-Klein spectrum of supergravity on AdS_7 X S^4/Z_2 with a ten-dimensional
E_8 theory at its singular locus. We identify those operators in short
multiplets of OSp(6,2|2), whose dimensions are exact for any N. We also discuss
more general issues concerning AdS/CFT duality on orbifold supergravity
backgrounds.Comment: 16pp, Late
Les plaques d’immatriculation comme moteurs de la sémiosis/ License Plates as Vehicles of Semiosis
Modern society is happy to invite its members to invest sense at every step, no matter how poor the sense or how trivial the investment. And it is happy to demonstrate and praise the quality of both sense and investment, hence, the uniqueness of the investors. So number (license) plates have become vehicles of meaning. In Romania, the structure of the plates facilitates semiosis. Three-letter combinations unveil automobile owners' wishes, ambitions, obsessions (power, sex, individual excellence, etc.). In order to get closer to these subjective meanings, one has to corroborate plates with the cars' power and luxury and the drivers' behavior on the road. These combinations can also reveal more promising meanings, coming from the play with words, with cultural and affective elements, etc. This play can help people develop their creative capabilities and learn ways to integrate into the society. Nothing remains but to see which investment (to assert himself / herself, to learn culture and integrate into the society by playing) is stronger
Pour une encomiastique visuelle
The paintings that represent Nicolae and Elena Ceausescu, exhibited in 2004 by the National Museum of Contemporary Art (MNAC) and reproduced in an album in 2008 by the German printing house Steidl, show the difficulties that a rhetoric of eulogy can encounter in a democratic society. The rich traditions of eulogy may be considered a source of inspiration for these paintings. The aims of this research are: to identify the ways artists persuasively bind glorifiable meanings and techniques, to discover the combinatory potential of certain techniques cherished by eulogy, and to bring to light the rhetorical invariants of the genre
Uniqueness and Tradition, according to Patek Philippe
Products tend to become objects of psycho-affective investments, more than instruments with practical-functional duties. Watches form a product category where this evolution is manifest. The biggest watch manufacturers sell subjective time, meant to give (more) spiritual consistency to those who buy and use them. The advertisements of a campaign carried out in the 1990s by Patek Philippe, producer of luxury watches, convey elitist values: uniqueness, tradition. The requirements for the integration of such values claim a high complexity of the advertisements; the headlines, for example, ask their addressees to redefine concepts (tradition); the body texts use argumentative layers; the images present characters whose hands form expressive configurations, etc. Such efforts to elaborate commercial messages prove the symbolic ambitions of advertising, one of the most prominent factors to mould meaning in the social life.
Last Stop Before Exit – Hepatitis C Assembly and Release as Antiviral Drug Targets
Chronic Hepatitis C infection is a global health problem. While primary infection is often inapparent, it becomes chronic in most cases. Chronic infection with Hepatitis C virus (HCV) frequently leads to liver cirrhosis or liver cancer. Consequently, HCV infection is one of the leading causes for liver transplantation in industrialized countries. Current treatment is not HCV specific and is only effective in about half of the infected patients. This situation underlines the need for new antivirals against HCV. To develop new and more efficient drugs, it is essential to specifically target the different steps of the viral life cycle. Of those steps, the targeting of HCV assembly has the potential to abolish virus production. This review summarizes the advances in our understanding of HCV particle assembly and the identification of new antiviral targets of potential interest in this late step of the HCV life cycle
AUTOMATIC SYSTEM FOR ADVANCED SPEED CONTROL OF THE DRILLING HOE
Drilling consists of the operation of creating a well, which involves a complex set of activities. In a narrower sense, it includes the dislocation of rocks and the extraction of rock fragments to the surface. A drilling tool called a bit is used to dislodge rocks, being connected to the surface drilling rig via a drill string. Automating the processes associated to drilling is extremely important to ensure its development in optimal conditions. This work is focused on the control of the drilling hoe rotation speed, in order to damage it as little as possible
The Neonate with Minor Dysmorphisms
Congenital anomalies are present in at least 10% of all neonatal intensive care unit admissions, of whom many have an underlying genetic condition. About 50–60% of human congenital anomalies are of unknown etiology, and approximately one- third are caused by genetic factors. A smaller percentage of birth defects are the result of chromosomal aberrations and gene mutations. Around 1 in 40 or 2.5% of all newborns have a malformation at birth. This may be an isolated malformation or may occur together with other malformations and/or dysmorphic features as part of a malformation syndrome. Around 4000 malformation syndromes have now been delineated. Many are associated with medical problems and making a specific syndrome diagnosis can influence immediate medical management. However, the infant with dysmorphism often does not have a major malformation, and may simply have an appearance that is unusual compared with the general population and of unaffected close relatives. The chapter intends to provide semnificative data concerning the approach and management of a dysmorphic neonate, mainly when there are minor anomalies and will offer all those relevant data and try to establish a protocol guide for the approach of the dimorphic neonate
Dual D-Brane Actions
Dual super Dp-brane actions are constructed by carrying out a duality
transformation of the world-volume U(1) gauge field. The resulting world-volume
actions, which contain a (p - 2)-form gauge field, are shown to have the
expected properties. Specifically, the D1-brane and D3-brane transform in ways
that can be understood on the basis of the SL(2, Z) duality of type IIB
superstring theory. Also, the D2-brane and the D4-brane transform in ways that
are expected on the basis of the relationship between type IIA superstring
theory and 11d M theory. For example, the dual D4-brane action is shown to
coincide with the double-dimensional reduction of the recently constructed
M5-brane action. The implications for gauge-fixed D-brane actions are discussed
briefly.Comment: 18 pages, latex, no figures; references adde
New Challenges of Financial Communication in the Context of Sustainability Standards
Companies face a diverse range of challenges and opportunities that have a significant impact
on their long-term sustainability. This range includes factors such as climate change, resource
limitations, urbanization and technological advances. Investors should evaluate the impact of these
factors on companies to guide their investment choices. Stakeholders worldwide are looking to assess
how companies manage sustainability risks and opportunities. They need access to standardized,
comparable data, essential information in the decision-making process. The paper explores
integrating sustainability standards in investment and governance, focusing on the ISSB's impact.
Objectives include assessing their effectiveness for investor information, enhancing transparency,
and promoting sustainable finance. The research analyzes the evolution, specific goals, and
implications of these standards on decision-making and reporting
