Parental Monitoring and Youth's Binge Behaviors: The Role of Sensation Seeking and Life Satisfaction
Framed within an ecological perspective of the onset of adolescent problem behaviors, the current study explored the joint role of parent-adolescents’ relationships and youth's individual factors in binge eating and drinking. Firstly, in line with pieces of research highlighting the beneficial impact of effective parenting on youth development, the present paper sought to enhance the knowledge about the positive influence of parental monitoring on youth's binge drinking and eating. Moreover, since literature evidenced that the explanatory mechanisms of the association between parental monitoring and binge behaviors are not fully explored, the study focused on the potential intervening role of sensation seeking and life satisfaction as mediators. The study design was cross-sectional and self-report questionnaires were administered among a population of 944 high school students (M = 16.35, SD = 1.31) living in Palermo (Italy). Path analysis showed that parental monitoring was directly and negatively related to both binge eating and binge drinking. Moreover, sensation seeking negatively mediated the relationships between parental monitoring and both binge behaviors, whereas life satisfaction only mediated between parental monitoring and binge eating. The current study provided data useful to understand the complex interrelations between intrapersonal (life satisfaction and personality trait, i.e. sensation seeking) and contextual factors (parent–child relationships) that may discourage or cause eating and alcohol use disorders among youth. Building a Sample of Distant Clusters of Galaxies
Candidate clusters of galaxies drawn from the sample identified from the
moderately deep I-band data of the ESO Imaging Survey (EIS), have been used for
follow-up optical/infrared imaging and spectroscopic observations. The
observations were conducted to assess the nature of these candidates over a
large range of redshifts. Currently, 163 EIS candidates have (V-I) colors, 15
have (I-K) and 65 cluster fields have been observed spectroscopically. From a
preliminary analysis of these data, we find that > 65% of the candidates
studied show strong evidence of being real physical associations, over the
redshift range 0.2<z<1.1. The evidence in some cases comes directly from
spectroscopic measurements, in others indirectly from the detection of
overdensities of objects with either the same color or the same photometric
redshift, or from a combination of color and spectroscopic information.
Preliminary results also suggest that the redshift derived from the
matched-filter algorithm is a reasonable measure of the cluster's redshift,
possibly overestimating it by Delta z ~0.1, at least for systems at z<0.7.
Overdensities of red objects have been detected in over 100 candidates, 38 of
which with estimated redshifts >0.6, and six candidates in the interval
0.45<z<0.81 have either been identified directly from measured redshifts or
have been confirmed by the measurement of at least one redshift for galaxies
located along a red-sequence typical of cluster early-type galaxies. Lastly,
five candidates among those already observed in the infrared have (I-Ks) colors
consistent with them being in the redshift interval 0.8<z<1.1. The sample of
"confirmed" clusters, already the largest of its kind in the southern

A Robust Filter for the BeppoSAX Gamma Ray Burst Monitor Triggers
The BeppoSAX Gamma Ray Burst Monitor (GRBM) is triggered any time a
statistically significant counting excess is simultaneously revealed by at
least two of its four independent detectors. Several spurious effects,
including highly ionizing particles crossing two detectors, are recorded as
onboard triggers. In fact, a large number of false triggers is detected, in the
order of 10/day. A software code, based on an heuristic algorithm, was written
to discriminate between real and false triggers. We present the results of the
analysis on an homogeneous sample of GRBM triggers, thus providing an estimate
of the efficiency of the GRB detection system consisting of the GRBM and the

Indefinite Causal Order in a Quantum Switch
In quantum mechanics events can happen in no definite causal order: in
practice this can be verified by measuring a causal witness, in the same way
that an entanglement witness verifies entanglement. Indefinite causal order can
be observed in a quantum switch, where two operations act in a quantum
superposition of the two possible orders. Here we realise a photonic quantum
switch, where polarisation coherently controls the order of two operations,
and , on the transverse spatial mode of the photons. Our
setup avoids the limitations of earlier implementations: the operations cannot
be distinguished by spatial or temporal position. We show that our quantum
switch has no definite causal order, by constructing a causal witness and
measuring its value to be 18 standard deviations beyond the definite-order
bound
Effective restoration of the U_A(1) symmetry with temperature and density
We investigate the full U(3)U(3) chiral symmetry restoration, at
finite temperature and density, on the basis of a quark model which
incorporates the most relevant properties of QCD in this context: explicit and
spontaneous breaking of chiral symmetry and axial U(1) symmetry breaking. A
specific lattice-inspired behavior of the topological susceptibility, combined
with the convergence of chiral partners, signals the onset of an effective
chiral symmetry restoration. The results suggest that the axial part of the
symmetry is restored before the possible restoration of the full
U(3)U(3) chiral symmetry can occur. This conclusion is valid in the

Two photon decay of and at finite temperature and density
A comparative study of the anomalous decays , at
finite temperature and at finite density, is performed in the framework of the
three--flavor Nambu--Jona-Lasinio. The similarities and differences between
both scenarios are discussed. In both cases the lifetimes of these mesons
decrease significantly at the critical point, although this might not be
