    Gauged U(1)RU(1)_R Symmetries and Fayet-Iliopoulos Terms in 5D Orbifold Supergravity

    We discuss a gauged U(1)RU(1)_R supergravity on five-dimensional (5D) orbifold (S1/Z2S^1/Z_2) in which both a Z2Z_2-even U(1) gauge field and the Z2Z_2-odd graviphoton take part in the U(1)RU(1)_R gauging. Based on the off-shell formulation of 5D supergravity, we analyze the structure of Fayet-Iliopoulos (FI) terms allowed in such model. Introducing a Z2Z_2-even U(1)RU(1)_R gauge field accompanies new bulk and boundary FI terms in addition to the known integrable boundary FI term which could be present in the absence of any gauged U(1)RU(1)_R symmetry.     Structural and optical properties of Zn0.9 Mn0.1 O/ZnO core-shell nanowires designed by pulsed laser deposition

    Partilhar documento na coleção da comunidade Laboratório Associado I3NCore-shell ZnO/ZnMnO nanowires on a-Al2O3 and GaN (buffer layer)/Si (111) substrates were fabricated by pulsed laser deposition using a Au catalyst. Two ZnO targets with a Mn content of 10% were sintered at 1150 and 550 °C in order to achieve the domination in them of paramagnetic MnO2 and ferromagnetic Mn2O3 phases, respectively. Cluster mechanism of laser ablation as a source of possible incorporation of secondary phases to the wire shell is discussed. Raman spectroscopy under excitation by an Ar+ laser revealed a broad peak related to the Mn-induced disorder and a redshift in the A1-LO phonon. Resonant Raman measurements revealed an increase in the multiphonon scattering caused by disorder in ZnO upon doping by Mn. Besides the UV emission, a vibronic green emission band assisted by a ∼ 71 meV LO phonon is also observed in the photoluminescence spectra.     The effects of grazing management in montado fragmentation and heterogeneity

    The Portuguese silvo-pastoral system montado is broadly classified as a High Nature Value (HNV) system since it corresponds to farmland hosting high biodiversity levels, and such biodiversity depends on specific land use practices. However, in recent decades a decline both in the totalmontado area and in the tree cover density within the montado has been observed, driven mainly by management changes. This decline may result in biodiversity loss. Grazing is a central aspect determining the long-term sustainability of the montado system and it has implications also on themontado structural diversity, particularly on connectivity and heterogeneity, which is crucial for the maintenance of montado HNV. The aim of this paper is to demonstrate how variations in montadostructural diversity are correlated with grazing management and its implications on the value of the system for conservation. The empirical data derives from a case study composed of 41 montadofarms in two municipalities of the Alentejo region. Data on grazing management, biophysical and spatial factors were collected and several metrics were calculated to assess montado fragmentation and heterogeneity. A multivariate analysis was performed using generalized additive models. Results show that different grazing patterns, depending on stocking density and grazing animal type, are correlated with variations in montado fragmentation and heterogeneity. Particularly, cattle’s grazing is shown to have adverse effects on the montado fragmentation, while sheep grazing is shown to have stronger impacts on the heterogeneity within the montado patches

    Effects of an in-service training program using the routines-based interview

    The focus of this study is an in-service training program rooted in routines-based early intervention and designed to improve the quality of goals and objectives on individualized plans. Participants were local intervention team members and other professionals who worked closely with each team. This training program involved a small number of trainees per group, providing multiple learning experiences across time and various opportunities for self-assessment and monitoring. We investigated (a) the perceptions of the participants about the strengths and weaknesses of the training program, (b) medium-term outcomes of the training with a comparison group, (c) and variables associated with the quality of goals and objectives. This study involved training more than 200 professionals, and results support the effectiveness of the program in improving the quality of goals and objectives, showing the importance of the routines-based interview in producing that improvement.info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio

    Assessing the ability of rural areas to fulfill multiple societal demands

    Rural areas are changing through a process of multifunctional transition. New societal expectations, including countryside consumption and protection, increasingly determine the way rural space is used. There is a pressing need to grasp the new relative balance between these drivers of the rural space, in each particular area, in order to target public intervention. Tackling differentiation within rural space will definitely contribute to developing the potential and vocation of each area while supporting territorial cohesion. In this context, sound analytical knowledge that reveals and characterizes this differentiation is required and novel analytical approaches are needed for this knowledge to be obtained. Based on the conceptual framework proposed by Holmes (2006, 2012), this paper presents two methodological pathways for defining a typology of European regions that considers the multifunctionality of rural areas today and the relative weight of the dimensions of production, protection and consumption. The classification is produced at Nomenclature Territorial Unit NUTS 2 level, using information derived from European statistical datasets compiling different cartographic sources. One of the methods used to develop a typology was a clustering approach while the other method used was an expert-based analytical procedure. Even when the limitations stemming from the data available for the whole of Europe are considered, the results are encouraging. The results show two different regional distributions in Europe. These distributions, which have some similarities but also certain differences, both reveal the general characteristics of NUTS 2 regions and shed new light on the ways in which societal expectations for production, protection and consumption might be spatially reconciled. The expert-based approach seems to produce a more faithful classification. Both typologies result in most regions being classified as pluri-active, or complex or multifunctional, which may indicate that multiple modes of rural occupancy are widely found in each region and therefore that a more detailed scale of analysis would be more likely to enable evidence-based decisions to be made

    Ab-initio study of the relation between electric polarization and electric field gradients in ferroelectrics

    The hyperfine interaction between the quadrupole moment of atomic nuclei and the electric field gradient (EFG) provides information on the electronic charge distribution close to a given atomic site. In ferroelectric materials, the loss of inversion symmetry of the electronic charge distribution is necessary for the appearance of the electric polarization. We present first-principles density functional theory calculations of ferroelectrics such as BaTiO3, KNbO3, PbTiO3 and other oxides with perovskite structures, by focusing on both EFG tensors and polarization. We analyze the EFG tensor properties such as orientation and correlation between components and their link with electric polarization. This work supports previous studies of ferroelectric materials where a relation between EFG tensors and polarization was observed, which may be exploited to study ferroelectric order when standard techniques to measure polarization are not easily applied.Comment: 9 pages, 6 figures, 5 tables, corrected typos, as published in Phys.     Construção de projetos sociais multidisciplinares: a disciplina projeto Rondon

    Trabalho apresentado no II Congresso Nacional do PROJETO RONDON, realizado em Florianópolis, SC, no período de 23 a 25 de setembro de 2015 - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina.Na reativação do Projeto Rondon em 2005, o MEC solicitou que as IES o reconhecessem institucionalmente e que promovessem atividades para sua sustentabilidade e aprimoramento. Em concordância e respeitando a autonomia das IES, o MD manifestou apoio na criação de eventos de extensão que pudessem vir a aprimorar e capacitar os participantes das IES. Em 2007 foi criada pelo Núcleo do Projeto Rondon, no âmbito do Decanato de Extensão da Universidade de Brasília, a disciplina “Formação teórica sobre a ação e concepção do Projeto Rondon”. O presente trabalho trata dos resultados da disciplina até o primeiro semestre de 2015. A metodologia para capacitar os futuros rondonistas incluiu a participação de um grupo de docentes de áreas diversas e a criação de uma sala virtual de apoio com o uso da Plataforma Moodle, além da oferta de turmas nos quatro campi. Os resultados mostraram que a discussão teórica sobre os modos de ação do Projeto Rondon proposto pela UnB capacitou tanto os alunos quanto os professores para ações de extensão. Além disso, apresentou a concepção do Projeto Rondon no que diz respeito a como ele é visto pelas Instituições Ministeriais de Ensino e Defesa, como também pelas Instituições de Ensino Superior. Nesse formato a disciplina foi ofertada até o segundo semestre de 2009 quando passou a ser denominada “Construção de Projetos Sociais Multidisciplinares” sendo ofertada como disciplina de graduação de módulo livre, cursada por alunos de qualquer um dos 78 cursos presenciais da UnB. A ementa tem a seguinte proposta: “Construção de projetos sociais com grupos multidisciplinares. Transformação de seus conhecimentos em ações multidisciplinares para o desenvolvimento e a capacitação de organizações da sociedade civil. Construção de projetos interdisciplinares nas áreas de Direitos Humanos e Justiça, Cultura, Comunicação, Educação, Saúde, Meio Ambiente, Tecnologia e Produção e Trabalho. Aplicação dos projetos em comunidades na área de abrangência da UnB.” Dados sobre oferta de vagas e matrículas efetivadas entre os anos de 2009 e 2012 revelam que a disciplina apresenta alta demanda, com 1.691 vagas ofertadas e 1.786 alunos efetivamente matriculados. Apenas no primeiro semestre de 2015 foram 173 alunos participantes das oito turmas nos quatro campi da UnB. A Disciplina atingiu 39 cursos (50% do total de cursos presenciais da UnB). Conclui-se que a condução da Disciplina tem impacto significativo no preparo dos rondonistas e futuros extensionistas
