Literature Review on Urban Trauma and Applying a Trauma-Informed Approach
Within the United States, there are millions of people living in urban cities. Cities like New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles. This thesis capstone project is a literature review on the trauma that is experienced by the youth residing in those urban communities and the effects it has on their bodies and minds. This level of continuous trauma develops in children as complex trauma and disrupts a child’s mental, social, emotional and educational development. This change in trajectory puts these children on a path that can result in Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), anxiety, depression, substance abuse, involvement with the criminal justice system, teenage pregnancy, unemployment, poverty, or death. This thesis will also look at the literature on the trauma-informed approach, its guidelines, and how it can be beneficial to this population. In recent years, programs have implemented the trauma-informed approach to treat complex trauma and give traumatized children a chance at healing. In Massachusetts, for example, several such programs have combined the trauma-informed approach with theoretical approaches and have seen successful results. The use of art in art therapy sessions can be used successfully to create paths of communication, understanding, and healing for urban youth

Anthelmintic efficacy of tuba (Croton tiglium L.) seeds on the gastrointestinal parasites of native chickens (Gallus domesticus)
The efficacy of capsulized Croton tiglium L. (CCT) seeds on the gastrointestinal parasites of native chickens (Gallus domesticus) was tested in experiments. A total of thirty-six free-range native chickens naturally infected with gastrointestinal parasites were divided into four treatment groups (positive control of levamisole+niclosamide, 200 mg, 300 mg and 400 mg CCT seeds) following a completely randomized design (CRD). Prior to treatment and on the 3rd, 6th, 9th and 12th days after treatment, the fecal egg count per gram was measured using the mc master technique. The analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to statistically analyze all the data obtained. Using Least Significant Differences (LSD), significant differences between treatments were compared. On the day twelve after treatment, percent efficacy of capsulized Croton tiglium seeds on Ascaridia galli/Heterakis gallinarum at 200 mg and 400 mg was highly effective. The comparative cost analysis of the four treatments showed that the use of C. tiglium seeds resulted in a lower cost compared to the commercial dewormer. Commercial anthelmintic was more costly compared to the cost of capsulized C. tiglium seeds on T4 (400mg CCT) by 89. 67 %. The findings indicate the ability of Croton tiglium seeds in native chickens (Gallus domesticus) particularly against Ascaridia galli/Heterakis gallinarum as an alternative anthelmintic
Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System Implementation Framework for Selected State Universities
Purpose: The highly competitive education environment poses a great challenge to State Universities in the Philippines. Consequently, the need to take on new information system solutions to properly address partial and unintegrated systems is a must. This research is focused on developing an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system implementation framework that would serve as a tool for improving the university's operational efficiency. Method: In this study, the ERP critical success factors were determined through the Delphi Method, and weights were assigned to indicate their importance based on experts' consensus using Principal Component Analysis. Data collated from the selected state universities were summarized and treated to determine their readiness for the ERP system. Results: It was observed that the university with high awareness and the finest ICT practices has a strong potential in adopting the system. The organizational and socio-economic factors identified remarkably have a greater impact on the successful implementation of the system, thus, achieving this requires improvement in organizational performance and effectiveness. Generally, most of the universities in the study are ERP-ready and find the proposed framework highly acceptable as a useful reference. Conclusions: Strong executive leadership and commitment are essential elements to ensure success. It was also established that the socio-economic factors are more perceptible, therefore, enhancing employee's knowledge of the benefits of the ERP system can increase their flexibility and involvement in ERP system projects. Recommendations: It is recommended that these universities consider using the Readiness Assessment provided in this study to assist in decision-making and the proposed framework as a guide in planning and strategizing for effective ERP implementation. Practical Implications -The framework developed may be used as a springboard for improving the university's IT infrastructure and for upgrading their technologies leading to enhanced user experience and increased operational efficiency. This can further serve as the basis for policy intercession in the future
Displaced heroism in 18th and 19th century American literature
In this study, I argue that heroism requires displacement. This notion of heroism applies to a majority of hero tales because this displacement happens physically, mentally, or even psychologically. To analyze the displaced hero, certain 18th and 19th century American texts encapsulate instances of displaced heroism: women’s Indian captivity narratives, Charles Brockden Brown’s Edgar Huntly, and Life of Black Hawk. Focusing on displaced heroism in these specific texts allows for further commentary on the discussion of Americanness and the issues America faced when encountering the Native Americans in what they perceived to be a wilderness. This study compares women’s Indian captivity narratives with European fairytales to demonstrate how the heroine dealt successfully with her captivity in the wilderness. Conversely, Edgar Huntly becomes displaced when writing about his descent into the American wilderness, inverting the archetypal heroic journey and failing in his heroic efforts. And finally, Black Hawk represents a tragic hero figure. He became displaced in his attempt to fight the U.S. Government and save his people’s way of life, and discouraged after touring the booming industry of the eastern American cities. In displacement, heroism can either hinder or help, depending on whether the individual chooses to rise above their predicament and achieve an innate sense of self. The meaning behind these important hero stories explores how to live life to the fullest even when displaced, shifted, challenged, and questioned in life
TOWARDS A RATIONAL USER FEE SYSTEM FOR TOURISM IN SAGADA, PHILIPPINES
The study attempts to analyze the potential of developing a user fee system for the sustainable development of tourism in Sagada, Mountain Province, Philippines. Estimates of willingness to pay of tourists for nature's services derived from a nonmarket valuation study provided the springboard for the range of user fees. Use allocation of potential revenue from user fee included education and awareness, improvement of facilities, waste minimization and clean-up, capacity building, and response to accidents and disasters. A council composed of various stakeholders was identified to be the institutional mechanism for developing, adopting and evaluating the operational policies as well as reviewing and approving programs and projects to be financed by the fund. Policy procedures and processes including information sharing and consultation, and the administrative arrangements for implementation and enforcement would best be conducted through this management authority to ensure that the environment and the community benefit the most
Promoting Environmentally Preferable Products for Sustainable Development
Environmentally preferable products (EPPs) are desirable because these do not leave adverse impacts on the environment and natural resources. While several EPPs can be consumed and traded, a number of concerns still have to be addressed. This issue attempts to identify the problems related to its development. Recommendations on how to fully realize the benefits of EPPs follow.natural resources and environment, environmentally preferable products
