Topological partition relations to the form omega^*-> (Y)^1_2
Theorem: The topological partition relation omega^{*}-> (Y)^{1}_{2}
(a) fails for every space Y with |Y| >= 2^c ;
(b) holds for Y discrete if and only if |Y| <= c;
(c) holds for certain non-discrete P-spaces Y ;
(d) fails for Y= omega cup {p} with p in omega^{*} ;
(e) fails for Y infinite and countably compact
Small terrestrial mammals and bats of Melaleuca and Claytons, southwestern Tasmania
A survey of small terrestrial mammals and bats was undertaken in two areas of southwestern Tasmania: around Melaleuca, in sedgeland, scrub and woodland communities, and at Claytons in mixed forest. The density of bats was extremely low in comparison with populations in eastern Tasmania. The densities of Rattus lutreolusand Antechinus minimuswere greatest in sedgeland/scrub with a dense undergrowth.
Pseudomys higginsi was only captured in mixed forest but is also present around Deny King's garden. Dasyurus viverrinus was most abundant in young sedgeland. Cercartetus nanus was present at both Clay tons and Melaleuca. No introduced rodents were trapped, but an outbreak of Rattus rattus had occurred previous to our study. No Mastacomys fuscus were trapped but they have been recorded in a previous study. Fire
has an important influence on the composition and structure of the vegetation which, in turn, influences the composition and density of the mammal community
Emergence of Unemployment: An Assessment of Nigeria Directorate of Employment (NDE) Skill Intervention Programmes between (2005-2011) in Lagos State
Generation of productive and gainful employment with decent working conditions based on skill development to absorb our growing labour force has become a critical factor in the strategy for economic development in Nigeria. This demands that the government must respond through policy interventions in setting institutional framework that will be responsible for enhancing the skill of products from different academia. Given the strategic position of Lagos State in Nigeria there is need to provide world-class vocational skills training and high quality technical education to Lagos unemployed youths . Young school leavers rush to Lagos in search of jobs. In other to achieve this target, the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) and few other institutions were created. The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between skill development and youth unemployment. In analyzing the relevance of NDE in the development of skill and creation of job in Lagos state between (2005-2011), this paper observed that NDE has contributed significantly towards creating jobs for the unemployed youths within their capacity. However, the slow pace of NDE in responding effectively to the rate of unemployment and in attaining the millennium development goal (MDGs) will be an uphill task. The government needs to improve on their investment, and develop more institutional capacity to tackle the issue of unemployment in the country. Beyond policy initiation, strategies must be put in place for adequate implementation of the scheme towards eradicating unemployment. Stakeholders’ Perceptions of Culturally Responsive Leadership in a K-12 Public Charter School in North Carolina
The purpose of this instrumental case study was to explore stakeholders’ perceptions of the culturally responsive leadership practices of charter school leaders. The goals were: (a) to explore how the school leadership team perceived culturally responsive leadership in a K-12 charter school in North Carolina, (b) to explore how the teachers perceived culturally responsive teaching and learning in a K-12 charter school in North Carolina, and (c) to explore how parents perceived a culturally responsive home-school connection in a K-12 charter school in North Carolina. The participants were members of the school leadership team, teachers, and parents. Results revealed the school leadership team, teachers, and parents were unanimous in their belief that culturally responsive leadership created a sense of belonging for all stakeholders. The results suggest that charter school leadership should perform functions that include: (a) fostering a common view of the organization’s vision and mission among all stakeholders or members of the group by modeling culturally responsive practices; (b) providing an equitable distribution of resources, professional development, and other opportunities to meet the needs of diverse students and their diverse teachers; and (c) providing conditions that allow teachers and parents to react to the learning needs of diverse students
Precompact noncompact reflexive abelian groups
We present a series of examples of precompact, noncompact, reflexive
topological Abelian groups. Some of them are pseudocompact or even countably
compact, but we show that there exist precompact non-pseudocompact reflexive
groups as well. It is also proved that every pseudocompact Abelian group is a
quotient of a reflexive pseudocompact group with respect to a closed reflexive
pseudocompact subgroup
Tannic Acid Coated Gold Nanorods Demonstrate a Distinctive Form of Endosomal Uptake and Unique Distribution within Cells
One of the primary challenges associated with nanoparticle-dependent biological applications is that endosomal entrapment in a physiological environment severely limits the desired targeting and functionality of the nanoconstructs. This study sought to overcome that challenge through a systematic approach of gold nanorod (GNR) functionalization: evaluating the influence of both aspect ratio and surface chemistry on targeted cellular internalization rates and preservation of particle integrity. Owing to their unique spectral properties and enhanced surface area, GNRs possess great potential for the advancement of nanobased delivery and imaging applications. However, their ability for efficient intracellular delivery while maintaining their specific physiochemical parameters has yet to be satisfactorily explored. This study identified that longer and positively charged GNRs demonstrated a higher degree of internalization compared to their shorter and negative counterparts. Notably, of the four surface chemistries explored, only tannic acid resulted in retention of GNR integrity following endocytosis into keratinocyte cells, due to the presence of a strong protein corona matrix that served to protect the particles.
Taken together, these results identify tannic acid functionalized GNRs as a potential candidate for future development in nanobased biomolecule delivery, bioimaging, and therapeutic applications
