    Case study : using Wikipedia to enhance global knowledge on climate change

    The project enhanced quality and accessibility of climate change information particularly related to the Global South, via the world’s largest online encyclopedia, and increased confidence and skills of climate change researchers and practitioners to edit Wikipedia. It worked to build a community of climate change editors, particularly inclusive of women and editors from the Global South. Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN) hosted two edit-a-thons in 2019 and 2020, conducted a webinar to raise awareness about Wikipedia, and compiled the guide “How to contribute climate change information to Wikipedia: A guide for researchers, practitioners and communicators.

To achieve this, the project has three medium-term objectives: increasing accessibility and relevance of knowledge on climate and development, maximizing the uptake of this knowledge, and enhancing leadership and collaboration. These diseases rank among the top three causes of death in Nairobi (Kenya) and were the leading causes of morbidity in 2014. The newsletter focuses on non-motorized transport (NMT) and air quality hotspots in Nairobi. Providing access to local air quality data and improving knowledge about air pollution exposure could be powerful factors in helping to decrease the mortality rates and disease burden in Kenya.
