Comparative analysis of the SAFARI model with NATIVE 1 data in the VLF regime
Few underwater acoustic models have been validated in the Very Low Frequency (VLF) regime. The purpose here is to explore one model's abilities and compare it with ocean data once it is ascertained the model has converged to its final solution. A comparative analysis of data recorded in NATIVE 1 (the Noise and Transmission Loss in VLF Environments) Event 1 and results generated using the Seismic-Acoustic Fast field Algorithm for Range-Independent Environments (SAFARI) is the focus of this study, with emphasis on understanding some of the model's features.http://archive.org/details/comparativenalys1094530974Lieutenant Commander, United States NavyApproved for public release; distribution is unlimited

The Music of art
Through the research of Jazz/Improvisational music I plan to investigate its\u27 influence on my visual artwork. I also intend to demonstrate the interaction and relationship between the creation and performance of a piece of art. There seems to be a correlation between the elements of art and music which I am intrigued by. How are the elements of music translated into visual space? In the elements and principles of art there is a visual response waiting to be invoked. For the purposes of this writing, music is the muse. What takes place during the translation of listening, thought response, spirit response, and physical action, and material choice when creating a work of art when listening to music? I believe there is a connection of spirit and understanding between these two worlds which collide in the form of painting, drawing, and sculpture. Art and music have long since influenced one another, yet the intrigue remains. Thus, the thesis is merely a suggestion, as well as a meditative reflection on how improvisational music can influence a visual space. My art will consist of a range of visual representations including, but not limited to: found object art, charcoal sketches, and oil paintings. I intend to investigate what media works best, if any. In the end, I would assume it to be temperamental. My art is a result of many factors; it\u27s an intersection of personal experience with time, space, architecture, environment, and for the case of this thesis, music. I am fascinated by the improvisational musician\u27s ability to veer off the foundation, to aspire to the unknown. The decision of the musician or artist is not merely an uneducated guess, it\u27s a guided intuition. Furthermore, the resulting artworks are attempts to create an immediate, spontaneous, and visually agile experience built upon the foundations of our craft
Reference manual for the Langley Research Center flight simulation computing system
The researchers at the Langley Research Center Flight Simulation Computing System are provided with an advanced real-time digital simulation capability. This capability is controlled at the user interface level by the Real Time Simulation Supervisor. The Supervisor is a group of subprograms loaded with a simulation application program. The Supervisor provides the interface between the application program and the operating system, and coordinates input and output to and from the simulation hardware. The Supervisor also performs various utility functions as required by a simulation application program
A concurrent mixed-methods study of a leadership model for physician assistants: implications for practice and training
Field of study: Educational Leadership & Policy Analysis.Includes vita.A physician shortage currently exists in the United States and is projected to continuefor at leasta decade. Physician assistants(PA)are expected to help fill this healthcare gap, often requiring not just medical competence, but leadership skills. Leadership training is not often a component of PA medical training, and literature onPA leadership is limited. This study investigated a leadership model for PAsrooted in ethical leadership. The PA, asa medical leader, further defined asa learning leader, patient advocate, engaged professional, builder of future professionals, community activist and team collaborator was explored through a concurrent mixed-methods approach thatevaluatedsurvey datacollected from practicing PAs and PA faculty. Of the 681 practicing PAs invited, 107 (16%) participated, and of the 71 PA faculty members recruited, 43 (61%) participated. Results showed alignment in responses between the twosurveys. The greatest level of alignment was noted for the patient advocate, the team collaborator, and the learningleader, followed by the builder of future professionals and the engaged professional. The greatest amount of contrast between survey findings was with the community activist. Although all areas were supported, moreresearch is needed to further support this model.Includes bibliographical references (pages 239-246)
