Strong electrically tunable exciton g-factors in an individual quantum dots due to hole orbital angular momentum quenching
Strong electrically tunable exciton g-factors are observed in individual
(Ga)InAs self-assembled quantum dots and the microscopic origin of the effect
is explained. Realistic eight band k.p simulations quantitatively account for
our observations, simultaneously reproducing the exciton transition energy, DC
Stark shift, diamagnetic shift and g-factor tunability for model dots with the
measured size and a comparatively low In-composition of x(In)~35% near the dot
apex. We show that the observed g-factor tunability is dominated by the hole,
the electron contributing only weakly. The electric field induced perturbation
of the hole wavefunction is shown to impact upon the g-factor via orbital
angular momentum quenching, the change of the In:Ga composition inside the
envelope function playing only a minor role. Our results provide design rules
for growing self-assembled quantum dots for electrical spin manipulation via
electrical g-factor modulation
Physical unitarity in the Lagrangian Sp(2)-symmetric formalism
The structure of state vector space for a general (non-anomalous) gauge
theory is studied within the Lagrangian version of the -symmetric
quantization method. The physical {\it S}-matrix unitarity conditions are
formulated. The general results are illustrated on the basis of simple gauge

Undoubted cases of Domsiekte have been produced by suddenly cutting the ration of good conditioned heavily pregnant ewes. An identical condition has been set up in non-pregnant ewes but a much longer period on the poor diet was necessary than in the pregnant ewes. Details of the diets, loss of weight of the animal, clinical symptoms, chemical analysis of the blood and urine, pathological changes and blood changes are recorded. There is no doubt that the Domsiekte produced is identical with the "Pregnancy Disease" reported from other countries.The articles have been scanned in colour with a HP Scanjet 5590; 300dpi.

Vegetation's Red Edge: A Possible Spectroscopic Biosignature of Extraterrestrial Plants
Earth's deciduous plants have a sharp order-of-magnitude increase in leaf
reflectance between approximately 700 and 750 nm wavelength. This strong
reflectance of Earth's vegetation suggests that surface biosignatures with
sharp spectral features might be detectable in the spectrum of scattered light
from a spatially unresolved extrasolar terrestrial planet. We assess the
potential of Earth's step-function-like spectroscopic feature, referred to as
the "red edge", as a tool for astrobiology. We review the basic characteristics
and physical origin of the red edge and summarize its use in astronomy: early
spectroscopic efforts to search for vegetation on Mars and recent reports of
detection of the red edge in the spectrum of Earthshine (i.e., the spatially
integrated scattered light spectrum of Earth). We present Earthshine
observations from Apache Point Observatory to emphasize that time variability
is key to detecting weak surface biosignatures such as the vegetation red edge.
We briefly discuss the evolutionary advantages of vegetation's red edge
reflectance, and speculate that while extraterrestrial "light harvesting
organisms" have no compelling reason to display the exact same red edge feature
as terrestrial vegetation, they might have similar spectroscopic features at
different wavelengths than terrestrial vegetation. This implies that future
terrestrial-planet-characterizing space missions should obtain data that allow
time-varying, sharp spectral features at unknown wavelengths to be identified.
We caution that some mineral reflectance edges are similar in slope and
strength to vegetation's red edge (albeit at different wavelengths); if an
extrasolar planet reflectance edge is detected care must be taken with its

Spin-Orbit Splitting in Non-Relativistic and Relativistic Self-Consistent Models
The splitting of single-particle energies between spin-orbit partners in
nuclei is examined in the framework of different self-consistent approachs,
non-relativistic as well as relativistic. Analytical expressions of spin-orbit
potentials are given for various cases. Proton spin-orbit splittings are
calculated along some isotopic chains (O, Ca, Sn) and they are compared with
existing data. It is found that the isotopic dependence of the relativistic
mean field predictions is similar to that of some Skyrme forces while the
relativistic Hartree-Fock approach leads to a very different dependence due to

Two-band second moment model and an interatomic potential for caesium
A semi-empirical formalism is presented for deriving interatomic potentials
for materials such as caesium or cerium which exhibit volume collapse phase
transitions. It is based on the Finnis-Sinclair second moment tight binding
approach, but incorporates two independent bands on each atom. The potential is
cast in a form suitable for large-scale molecular dynamics, the computational
cost being the evaluation of short ranged pair potentials. Parameters for a
model potential for caesium are derived and tested
Variability of [<sup>18</sup>F]FDG-PET/LDCT reporting in vascular graft and endograft infection
Purpose: 18F-fluoro-D-deoxyglucose positron emission tomography with low dose and/or contrast enhanced computed tomography ([18F]FDG-PET/CT) scan reveals high sensitivity for the diagnosis of vascular graft and endograft infection (VGEI), but lower specificity. Reporting [18F]FDG-PET/CT scans of suspected VGEI is challenging, reader dependent, and reporting standards are lacking. The aim of this study was to evaluate variability of [18F]FDG-PET/low dose CT (LDCT) reporting of suspected VGEI using a proposed standard reporting format. Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted including all patients with a suspected VGEI (according to the MAGIC criteria) without need for urgent surgical treatment who underwent an additional [18F]FDG-PET/LDCT scan between 2006 and 2022 at a tertiary referral centre. All [18F]FDG-PET/LDCT reports were scored following pre-selected criteria that were formulated based on literature and experts in the field. The aim was to investigate the completeness of [18F]FDG-PET/LDCT reports for diagnosing VGEI (proven according to the MAGIC criteria) and to evaluate if incompleteness of reports influenced the diagnostic accuracy. Results: Hundred-fifty-two patients were included. Median diagnostic interval from the index vascular surgical procedure until [18F]FDG-PET/LDCT scan was 35.5 (7.3–73.3) months. Grafts were in 65.1% located centrally and 34.9% peripherally. Based on the pre-selected reporting criteria, 45.7% of the reports included all items. The least frequently assessed criterion was FDG-uptake pattern (40.6%). Overall, [18F]FDG-PET/LDCT showed a sensitivity of 91%, a specificity of 72%, and an accuracy of 88% when compared to the gold standard (diagnosed VGEI). Lower sensitivity and specificity in reports including ≤ 8 criteria compared to completely evaluated reports were found (83% and 50% vs. 92% and 77%, respectively). Conclusion: Less than half of the [18F]FDG-PET/LDCT reports of suspected VGEI met all pre-selected criteria. Incompleteness of reports led to lower sensitivity and specificity. Implementing a recommendation with specific criteria for VGEI reporting is needed in the VGEI-guideline update. This study provides a first recommendation for a concise and complete [18F]FDG-PET/LDCT report in patients with suspected VGEI.</p
Jastrow-type calculations of one-nucleon removal reactions on open - shell nuclei
Single-particle overlap functions and spectroscopic factors are calculated on
the basis of Jastrow-type one-body density matrices of open-shell nuclei
constructed by using a factor cluster expansion. The calculations use the
relationship between the overlap functions corresponding to bound states of the
-particle system and the one-body density matrix for the ground state of
the -particle system. In this work we extend our previous analyses of
reactions on closed-shell nuclei by using the resulting overlap functions for
the description of the cross sections of reactions on the open -
shell nuclei Mg, Si and S and of S
reaction. The relative role of both shell structure and short-range
correlations incorporated in the correlation approach on the spectroscopic

Gauge dependence of effective action and renormalization group functions in effective gauge theories
The Caswell-Wilczek analysis on the gauge dependence of the effective action
and the renormalization group functions in Yang-Mills theories is generalized
to generic, possibly power counting non renormalizable gauge theories. It is
shown that the physical coupling constants of the classical theory can be
redefined by gauge parameter dependent contributions of higher orders in
in such a way that the effective action depends trivially on the gauge
parameters, while suitably defined physical beta functions do not depend on
