Letters to Andrew Inglis Clark, Tasmania from Walter Gill, Sydney dated 3 December 1882
Ashamed that it has taken 3 months to reply your letter but chief reason is my unsettled and dissatisfied state of mind.
Expresses anger and dissatisfaction with his brother who is not contributing to the family coffers. Not going to write much of Sydney, inferior as it is to Storm Bay and even Melbourne, and it is fifty percent dearer living in Sydney than in Melbourne. Coupled with his dissatisfaction with his new workplace; the principles are bearable, the majority of the staff unbearable.

Apologies for the delay in answering letter but again has been ill and his odd state of mind is trying to balance life between work, study and exercise. Life is very dreary. Has taken Clark's advice and will not be joining his brother and has almost completed negotiations jor joining another firm. Provides an extensive list of all the reading he has done so far this year, concluding that he was trying to do too much and a breakdown was inevitable.
