Doping Effects In Off-stoichiometric Glow Discharge Amorphous Silicon Nitride
The effects of boron and phosphorus doping on the electrical properties of a-SiNx:H films are studied. The material is obtained by the glow discharge of SiH4 and N2 mixtures. It is found that for Si-rich materials boron doping produces large conductivity variations while phosphorus appears to be a much less efficient dopant. A phenomenological explanation is given assuming that phosphorus prefers to form bonds in accordance with its own valence configuration; i.e., it will go substitutionally to threefold coordinated N sites. Experimental evidence of such behavior obtained from published IR transmission measurements confirms this assumption.441116118IEEE Italy Sectio
The Stationary Phase Method for a Wave Packet in a Semiconductor Layered System. The applicability of the method
Using the formal analysis made by Bohm in his book, {\em "Quantum theory"},
Dover Publications Inc. New York (1979), to calculate approximately the phase
time for a transmitted and the reflected wave packets through a potential
barrier, we calculate the phase time for a semiconductor system formed by
different mesoscopic layers. The transmitted and the reflected wave packets are
analyzed and the applicability of this procedure, based on the stationary phase
of a wave packet, is considered in different conditions. For the applicability
of the stationary phase method an expression is obtained in the case of the
transmitted wave depending only on the derivatives of the phase, up to third
order. This condition indicates whether the parameters of the system allow to
define the wave packet by its leading term. The case of a multiple barrier
systems is shown as an illustration of the results. This formalism includes the
use of the Transfer Matrix to describe the central stratum, whether it is
formed by one layer (the single barrier case), or two barriers and an inner
well (the DBRT system), but one can assume that this stratum can be comprise of
any number or any kind of semiconductor layers.Comment: 15 pages, 4 figures although figure 4 has 5 graph
Morphological and anatomical observations on the genus Scinaia (Nemaliales; Rhodophyta) from the Gulf of California, Mexico.
43rd European Marine Biology Symposium. Ponta Delgada, Açores, 8-12 de Setembro de 2008
A re-evaluation of Scinaia (Nemaliales, Rhodophyta) in the Azores.
Copyright © Springer-Verlag and AWI 2011.The genus Scinaia in the Azores is re-evaluated based on historical and recent collections. A combination of morphological and anatomical diagnostic characters was used for species segregation, and a key for Azorean species determination is presented. Anatomical information associated to the hair development is described for the first time for the genus. The occurrence of S. furcellata and S. interrupta is confirmed for the archipelago. The presence of S. acuta is reported for the first time in the Azores, representing a spread from Australia to the N-Atlantic and specifically into the Macaronesian region. Its occurrence in the archipelago and the Canaries is discussed as a possible introduction
Multiphoton Ionization of Uracil at 355 nm
We present the experimental results from ionization and dissociation by multiphoton absorption (MPI) of uracil and a mixture of uracil with Ar using a Reflectron time of flight spectrometer along with radiation from 355 nm at pulsed Nd:YAG laser . We focus on the light ions production. The MPI mass spectra show that the presence and intensity of the resulting ions depend on the density power of the laser. The resulting ions in the mass spectra are identified and found similar behavior in the case of H+ and C+ as when multiple charged ions are used. Different results were found in contrast with those, recently reported, when electrons or photons of other wavelength were used. The number of 355nm absorbed photons was calculated accordingly to Keldysh theory and similar results were fond using pure uracil or uracil-Ar mixture. Our results are compared with those obtained in other laboratories under different experimental conditions, some of them show only partial agreement and differences are discussed
Effect of Laser Radiation on Biomolecules
Time of flight laser photoionization has been used to study the response of some molecules of biological interest under laser radiation. One of the questions of great interest today is the effect of radiation on DNA and RNA molecules. Damage to these molecules can be caused directly by radiation or indirectly by secondary electrons created by radiation. As response of the radiation field fragmentation process can occur producing different ions with kinetic energies of a few electron volts. In this paper we present the results of the interaction of 355nm laser with the nitrogen bases adenine(A) and uracil(U) using time-of-flight spectrometry and the comparison of experimental results on the effects of laser radiation in (A) and (U) belonging to two different ring groups, purines and pyrimidines respectively, which are linked to form the AU pair of the RNA
Life-cycle of Scinaia interrupta (Nemaliales, Rhodophyta)
Copyright © Springer Science+Business Media B.V. 2011.The life-cycle of Scinaia interrupta (A.P. de Candolle) M. J. Wynne was investigated in vitro using four irradiance regimes: 4, 8, 12 and 16 μmol photons mˉ² sˉ¹. A triphasic heteromorphic life-cycle was observed. Carpospores released by cystocarps of gametophytes collected in the field developed into filamentous tetrasporophytes, which produced tetrahedral tetrasporangia. Tetrasporangial development was accelerated under higher irradiance levels. Tetraspores germinated into filamentous protonemal gametophytes, initially identical to the tetrasporophyte. Filamentous gametophytes developed apical utricles and gave rise directly to the fleshy gametophyte. Further development of the fleshy gametophyte was not observed at the lowest irradiance regime (4 μmol photons mˉ² sˉ¹). The present study reports for the first time the influence of the irradiance regime on the initial tetrasporangial development and in the development of the fleshy gametophyte, and reinforces the importance of light intensity on Scinaia life-cycle. Production of apical utricles by the filamentous gametophyte is newly reported for the genus
A methodology for transient state estimation based on numerical derivatives, optimal monitoring and filtered measurements
This paper proposes a methodology for transient state estimation in power systems. The proposed methodology is formulated using approximation methods for derivatives to relate the state variables to measurements. It does not require knowledge of the steady state to establish the pre-disturbance operation conditions. The method uses an optimal monitoring system based on topological analysis to obtain full observability. A saving index is introduced to analyze the effectiveness of the instrumentation used. The adverse effect of noisy measurements in the estimation process is mitigated using an Infinite Impulse Response (IIR) filter. A transient index is introduced to estimate the fault location. The transient state estimation is assessed using two test systems. The results are validated through direct comparison against those obtained by simulation using SimPowerSystems toolbox of Simulink®. With the proposed methodology, the transient state estimation can be obtained with an important saving in the implementation of the measuring system and with considerably less computational effort
