Being a fragment of D.Chyzhevsky’s treatise “Russische Literaturgeschichte des 19. Jahrhunderts (Teil 1: DieRomantik)” translated from German by Olesia Kostiuk, this article focuses upon the prose works by N.Gogol, whichare analysed from the stylistic and partially from the comparative point of view. The book itself was published inMunich in 1964, and it is thus no wonder that its author sometimes makes use of the outdated methods of literaryresearch. Nevertheless, the present essay can be of substantial interest for the readers from mainland Ukraine,since till now it has remained unknown to the Ukrainian audience and appears here for the fi rst time.Стаття становить собою фрагмент книжки Д. Чижевського “Russische Literaturgeschichte des 19.Jahrhunderts (Teil 1: Die Romantik)”, перекладеної з німецької мови Олесею Костюк. У ній ідетьсяпро творчість М. Гоголя, яку автор розглянув у стильовому та почасти компаративному планах.Книжка опублікована 1964 року в Мюнхені, і тому в ній зрідка віддавалася данина деяким застарілимлітературознавчим методологіям.
