Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to propose a Priority of Resource Allocation model about how to utilize the resources of the port efficiently, through the improvement of traditional ant colony algorithm, the ship-berth matching relation constraint matrix formed by ontology reasoning. Design/methodology/approach: Through questionnaires?Explore factor analysis (EFA) and principal component analysis, the authors extract the importance of the goods, the importance of customers, and type of trade as the main factors of the ship operating priority. Then the authors combine berth assignment problem with the improved ant colony algorithm, and use the model to improve ship scheduling quality. Finally, the authors verify the model with physical data in a bulk-cargo-port in China. Findings: Test by the real data of bulk cargo port, it show that ships’ resource using priority and the length of waiting time are consistent; it indicates that the priority of resource allocation play a prominent role in improving ship scheduling quality. Research limitations: The questionnaires is limited in only one port group, more related Influence factors should be considered to extend the conclusion. Practical implications: The Priority of Resource Allocation model in this paper can be used to improve the efficiency of the dynamic berth assignment. Originality: This paper makes the time of ship in port minimized as the optimization of key indicators and establishes a dynamic berth assignment model based on improved ant colony algorithm and the ontology reasoning model.Peer Reviewe

Tuning the electronic and magnetic properties of metal-doped phenanthrene by codoping method

By first principles method, we have determined the geometric configuration of K/Ba-codoped phenanthrene based on the formation energy calculations, and systematically investigated its electronic and magnetic properties. There are two bands crossing Fermi energy which mainly result from the LUMO+1 orbitals of two phenanthrene molecules in a unit cell, and the cylinder-like Fermi surface along the Γ{\Gamma}-Z direction reflects the two-dimension character of metallic conduction of K/Ba-codoped phenanthrene. Compared to K-doped phenanthrene, K/Ba-codoping can donate more electrons to molecule to modify the electronic structure, while the intercalation of dopants does not result in the large distortion of molecule. (KBa)1_1phenanthrene is a magnetic metal with the spin moment of 0.32 μB{\mu}_B per each molecule, and unexpectedly, the spins gather in one edge of molecule rather than a uniform distribution on the whole molecule. Our results demonstrate that codoping of monovalent and bivalent metals is an effective approach to modulate the electronic properties of metal-doped hydrocarbons.Comment: 6 pages, 5 figure

Nitrogen and carbon isotope analyses were funded by startup funds from Virginia Tech to B.C.G.The Ediacaran-Cambrian transition is characterized by the evolution of complex eukaryotes and rapid diversification of metazoans. However, linkages between environmental triggers and evolutionary patterns remain unclear. Here, we present high-resolution records of carbon and nitrogen isotopic data (δ13C, δ15N) for a drill core extending from the early Ediacaran Doushantuo Formation to the early Cambrian Jiumenchong Formation, located on the slope of the Yangtze Block. Our data show that sedimentary bulk nitrogen isotope values (δ15Nbulk) decrease progressively from the early Ediacaran to the early Cambrian, broadly concurrent with nitrogen isotope data from other sections throughout the Yangtze Block. During the early Ediacaran, however, δ15Nbulk values from our study are higher (maximum 11.2‰) compared to those from more restricted coeval sections, suggesting a higher degree of denitrification in our slope section. The early Ediacaran δ15Nbulk data from the Yangtze Block may thus provide indirect evidence for an upwelling system that led to a shallower redoxcline in slope environments of the Upper Yangtze region. Widespread light δ15Nbulk values from the early Cambrian (minimum −7.5‰) paired with excess silicate-bound nitrogen throughout much of the Yangtze Block are most parsimoniously interpreted as non-quantitative assimilation of ammonium (NH4+) with relatively high concentrations of NH4+ accumulating in the deep basin. Overall, the spatial and temporal trends in nitrogen cycling across the Yangtze Block suggest that fixed nitrogen was more bioavailable in the Ediacaran-Cambrian Yangtze Basin compared to previously studied Mesoproterozoic sections, although nitrogen speciation in the photic zone may have varied with time. Environmental factors such as oxygen levels and nitrogen bioavailability may have shaped the evolutionary trajectory of life on the Yangtze Block and potentially elsewhere across the Ediacaran-Cambrian transition.PostprintPeer reviewe

Effects of slightly acidic electrolyzed water on the quality and antioxidant capacity of fresh red waxy corn during postharvest cold storage

Fresh red waxy corn is consumed worldwide because of its unique flavor and rich nutrients, but it is susceptible to deterioration with a short shelf life. This study explored the effect of slightly acidic electrolyzed water (SAEW) treatment on the quality and antioxidant capacity of fresh red waxy corn during postharvest cold storage up to 40 d. The SAEW treatment exhibited lower weight loss, softer firmness, and higher total soluble solids (TSS) and moisture content than the control group. Correspondingly, the SAEW maintained the microstructure of endosperm cell wall and starch granules of fresh red waxy corn kernels well, contributing to good sensory quality. Furthermore, SAEW effectively reduced the accumulation of H2O2 content, elevated the O2−· scavenging ability, maintained higher CAT and APX activities, and decreased the decline of the flavonoids and anthocyanin during the storage. These results revealed that the SAEW treatment could be a promising preservation method to maintain higher-quality attributes and the antioxidant capacity of fresh red waxy corn during postharvest cold storage

An ensemble deep learning diagnostic system for determining Clinical Activity Scores in thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy: integrating multi-view multimodal images from anterior segment slit-lamp photographs and facial images

BackgroundThyroid-associated ophthalmopathy (TAO) is the most prevalent autoimmune orbital condition, significantly impacting patients’ appearance and quality of life. Early and accurate identification of active TAO along with timely treatment can enhance prognosis and reduce the occurrence of severe cases. Although the Clinical Activity Score (CAS) serves as an effective assessment system for TAO, it is susceptible to assessor experience bias. This study aimed to develop an ensemble deep learning system that combines anterior segment slit-lamp photographs of patients with facial images to simulate expert assessment of TAO.MethodThe study included 156 patients with TAO who underwent detailed diagnosis and treatment at Shanxi Eye Hospital Affiliated to Shanxi Medical University from May 2020 to September 2023. Anterior segment slit-lamp photographs and facial images were used as different modalities and analyzed from multiple perspectives. Two ophthalmologists with more than 10 years of clinical experience independently determined the reference CAS for each image. An ensemble deep learning model based on the residual network was constructed under supervised learning to predict five key inflammatory signs (redness of the eyelids and conjunctiva, and swelling of the eyelids, conjunctiva, and caruncle or plica) associated with TAO, and to integrate these objective signs with two subjective symptoms (spontaneous retrobulbar pain and pain on attempted upward or downward gaze) in order to assess TAO activity.ResultsThe proposed model achieved 0.906 accuracy, 0.833 specificity, 0.906 precision, 0.906 recall, and 0.906 F1-score in active TAO diagnosis, demonstrating advanced performance in predicting CAS and TAO activity signs compared to conventional single-view unimodal approaches. The integration of multiple views and modalities, encompassing both anterior segment slit-lamp photographs and facial images, significantly improved the prediction accuracy of the model for TAO activity and CAS.ConclusionThe ensemble multi-view multimodal deep learning system developed in this study can more accurately assess the clinical activity of TAO than traditional methods that solely rely on facial images. This innovative approach is intended to enhance the efficiency of TAO activity assessment, providing a novel means for its comprehensive, early, and precise evaluation
