[[abstract]]The process of creating media products, maximizing the merits of advanced interactive technology is very complex. Media producers are highly demand of their cognitive abilities to integrate multiple domains of knowledge, which may include graphic design, technology skills, and problem-solving skills. The problem-based learning strategy (PBL), starting learning with a real-world problem, has been frequently adopted to develop the competency of learners with a major in technology or media production. Despite the fact that PBL effects have been reasonably argued and empirically tested, its associated learning tasks may overload the learners. This paper, grounded on the cognitive load theory, aimed to investigate the effects of worked examples on learners’ web-technology design skills. The web-technology design problem was chosen as the main problem for participants to explore during the PBL activity. A series of problems and associated worked examples were developed. Furthermore, a web-based learning system was created to engage participants in observing the problems, watching the examples and practicing solving the given problems. A pre-and-post experimental design was adopted to test the effect of worked-examples. 80 university students, with a major in instructional technology programs, were invited to participate in the study and were randomly assigned to one of the intervention conditions. The finding supported the positive effect of the worked example on enhancing learners’ web-technology design performance.[[notice]]補正完畢[[conferencetype]]國際[[conferencedate]]20131118~20131122[[iscallforpapers]]Y[[conferencelocation]]Bali, Indonesia[[countrycodes]]ID

AIM: To evaluate the clinical effect of manual small incision combined with negative power intraocular lens implantation for cataract with high myopia. <p>METHODS: Totally 75 cases(98 eyes)with super high myopia and cataract which had underwent small incision combined with negative power intraocular lens implantation were studied retrospectively. Preoperative axial length and postoperative visual acuity, refractive diopter and expected deviation value(refractive deviation)were recorded. Eye conditions operation complications and postoperative were observed. The patients were followed-up for 6 to 12 months. <p>RESULTS: The mean preoperative axial length was 32.05±1.78mm. Best corrected visual acuity≥0.2 was in 66 eyes, accounting for 67.3%; ≥0.5 in 43 eyes, accounting for 43.9%; the postoperative refractive error <±1.00D was total 48 eyes, accounting for 49.0%; <±2.00D total 78 eyes, accounting for 79.6%. Intra-operative posterior capsular rupture occurred in 3 eyes. Intra-operative posterior elastic layer detachment occurred in 1 cases. The postoperative corneal edema was found in 21 eyes. Postoperative 6 months, posterior capsular opacification was found in 13 eyes, and the visual acuity recovered after Nd:YAG laser cut. No retinal detachment, secondary glaucoma, macular cystoid edema, intraocular lens shift and other complications were found. Two eyes had the symptom of binocular interference post-operation. Three months later, another eye was performed intraocular lens implantation. The symptoms were eliminated post-operation. <p>CONCLUSION: The manual small incision cataract extraction combined with negative power intraocular lens implantation for cataract with high myopia is safe, effective method

Concatenation of the Gottesman-Kitaev-Preskill code with the XZZX surface code

Bosonic codes provide an alternative option for quantum error correction. An important category of bosonic codes called the Gottesman-Kitaev-Preskill (GKP) code has aroused much interest recently. Theoretically, the error correction ability of GKP code is limited since it can only correct small shift errors in position and momentum quadratures. A natural approach to promote the GKP error correction for large-scale, fault-tolerant quantum computation is concatenating encoded GKP states with a stabilizer code. The performance of the XZZX surface-GKP code, i.e., the single-mode GKP code concatenated with the XZZX surface code is investigated in this paper under two different noise models. Firstly, in the code-capacity noise model, the asymmetric rectangular GKP code with parameter λ\lambda is introduced. Using the minimum weight perfect matching decoder combined with the continuous-variable GKP information, the optimal threshold of the XZZX-surface GKP code reaches σ0.67\sigma\approx0.67 when λ=2.1\lambda=2.1, compared with the threshold σ0.60\sigma\approx0.60 of the standard surface-GKP code. Secondly, we analyze the shift errors of two-qubit gates in the actual implementation and build the full circuit-level noise model. By setting the appropriate bias parameters, the logical error rate is reduced by several times in some cases. These results indicate the XZZX surface-GKP codes are more suitable for asymmetric concatenation under the general noise models. We also estimate the overhead of the XZZX-surface GKP code which uses about 291 GKP states with the noise parameter 18.5 dB (κ/g0.71%\kappa/g \approx 0.71\%) to encode a logical qubit with the error rate 2.53×1072.53\times10^{-7}, compared with the qubit-based surface code using 3041 qubits to achieve almost the same logical error rate.Comment: 17 pages, 10 figure

[[abstract]]Problem-based learning strategy has been frequently adopted to develop students’ problem-solving ability. Despite the fact that its effects have been reasonably argued and empirically tested, its associated learning task may overload the learners, especially the novice. This paper, grounded on the cognitive load theory, argued the potentials of introducing the worked examples into problem-based learning activity. The purpose of this study is to explore the design principles of worked examples and test its effects. The geometric logic problem type was chosen as the main problem for participants to explore during the problem-based learning activity. A series of geometric logic problems was developed and tested in a pilot study to ensure its quality. Furthermore, worked examples and practice session were developed based on the principles suggested in the literature. A web-based learning system was created to engage participants in observing the logical problems, watching the examples and practicing solving the given problems. A pre-and-post experimental design was adopted to test the effect of worked-examples. Twenty-eight university students, matriculated in information-related programs, were recruited. The finding supported the positive effect of the worked examples on enhancing students’ logic problem solving performance.[[conferencetype]]國際[[conferencedate]]20131118~20131121[[iscallforpapers]]Y[[conferencelocation]]Bali, Indonesi
