Library Resources for Secondary Schools in Gusau metropolis: Educational Implications
Purpose of the study: The study investigated the level of provision of information resources and ICT facilities in secondary school libraries in Gusau, Zamfara State, Nigeria, considering their importance in achieving educational goals.Design/methodology: The study adopted descriptive survey design. The population of the study was 420 while the sample size was 201. Proportionate sampling technique was used. Krejcie and Morgan formula table for determining sampling size was used. Two research questions guided the study. Data was collected using a questionnaire developed from the reviewed literature. Distributed questionnaires were 201 out of which 162 (80%) were returned and found usable for the study. The data collected was then analysed using statistical mean, with criterion mean placed at 2.50 and Robert Ho table for determining total mean score was used to interpret the level.Findings: One of the finding showed that there is a low provision of ICT facilities. Recommendations made include that government and other stakeholders should as a matter of urgency provide ICT facilities as well as recruit and train persons to manage the libraries and the ICT facilities in secondary school libraries.Originality/value: The study is original and not under consideration elsewhere. Its value is in the finding that school library situation falls short of the expectations of relevant stakeholders and policy directives
The Role of University Library for enhanced University-Industry Relationship
University system is the soul of the society due to the society’s dependence on it for direction. The two has a symbiotic relationship. They are expected to solve society’s problems through provision of knowledgeable and well behaved individuals, high level skilled manpower for the workforce and also researches and innovations The University Library is vested with the responsibility of providing needed information materials to achieve this. In developing countries like Nigeria, employers of labour often complain of the un-employability of our university graduates as well as research results not being adopted by industries. A poor university-industry linkage is evident in Nigeria. There is a disconnect between the universities and the industries that they produce the skilled manpower and research reports. The paper therefore examined the university library roles for enhanced university-industry relationship. The concepts of university, industry and university library was looked at and a review of literature on university-industry relationship was done

THE ROLE OF THE LIBRARY IN PROMOTING PEACE EDUCATION IN NIGERIA
Abstract
The need for peace in Nigeria cannot be overemphasized as the country has been suffering from the consequences of various degrees of conflict at various times in our history as a nation. Peace education initiative is seen as a welcomed development in both peacebuilding and maintenance. This paper, therefore, intends to discuss the roles of libraries towards promoting peace education in Nigeria. This paper reviewed literature on library, peace, and peace education, it also discussed the types and contents of peace education and then discussed the roles libraries should play in promoting peace education which includes support for education, provision of access to information, teaching of information literacy and study skills, outreach programmes (organizing seminars, talks, road shows, exhibitions etc,). The paper also looked at some challenges which also include poor funding, high illiteracy rate and poor reading culture. The value of this paper is in its identification and discussion of the views and position on the concepts of library, peace and peace education and a breakdown of the types and content of peace education. The paper is expected to aid those in the quest for knowledge and help create synergy between peace scholars and libraries and librarians
Awareness, Access and Utilization of Information on Climate Change by Farmers in Zamfara State, Nigeria
The study adopted survey research design. The population of the study consisted 1200 respondents comprising (staff of the Zamfara State Agricultural Development Project, FADAMA III Project, IFAD, Animal rearers and Farmers). Instruments of data collection used for the study were the questionnaire, interview and discussions. One thousand two hundred questionnaires were distributed to respondents and only 988 (82.2%) were dully returned and found usable. The results of the responses were interpreted using simple percentage and frequency tables. The findings of the study include, that 95% of Zamfara State population are farmers, Maru and Gusau Local Government Areas recorded the highest farmers’ population. It was also discovered that there was a high rate of awareness of climate change information in the State with Radio, Television, extension services as major sources of climate change information in the State. It was also discovered that farmers in the State utilize climate change information like taking decisions on what and when to plant, planting improved crop varieties among others. There is also the challenges of reduction in annual rainfall, deforestation, insect-pests attack, high temperature among others. Recommendations were made for intensified awareness campaign on climate change, increased budgetary allocation to the agricultural sector for more mitigation and adaptation capacity for the farmers
Awareness, Access and Utilization of Family Planning Information in Zamfara State, Nigeria
The study investigated the extent of awareness, accessibility and utilization of family planning information in Zamfara State, Nigeria. The descriptive survey method was adopted for the study. The population of the study consisted of all the fourteen (14) Local Government Areas of Zamfara State and the targeted respondents of the study were the married women of Zamfara State. Simple random sampling was adopted for the study because of its appropriateness which ensured that no part of the population was excluded. Nine (9) Local Government Areas out of the fourteen (14) in the State were selected representing 75% of the total number of the Local Governments and 83% respondents to represent the entire population of the fourteen (14) Local Government Areas under study. The study made use of questionnaire and interview as instruments of data collection. The findings revealed that eight family planning information systems are available in the state and they are, Pills, Male condom, Abstinence system, Birth spacing, Contraceptive (injectible), Maternal death, Infant mortality and its benefit. It was also discovered that (30%) of the respondents were aware of family planning activities and very few number of them aware of the benefits of family planning in Zamfara State.(36%) have access to family planning information and method. It was discovered also that Radio constitute the highest (37%) source of family planning information in the state while all (100%) of the respondents Strongly Disagreed of having heard family planning information from the worship centers. Recommendations made include, Government galvanizing all sectors of the country to participate actively in family planning activities to check the explosive growth rate of our population. Government should as a matter of necessity muster enough political will to execute its 2014 Blue Print to the later with relevant updates

Availability of ICT facilities and technostress among library staff of Kashim Ibrahim Library, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Kaduna State, Nigeria
This study investigated availability of ICT facilities and technostress among library staff in Kashim Ibrahim Library, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria. Descriptive survey design was used for the study. The population was 370staff consisting of Professional and Para-professional Librarians. Stratified sampling technique was adopted, a sampling population of 186 was arrived at using Krejcie and Morgan (1970) formula table. Data was collected using questionnaire.186 questionnaires were administered to the staff. Four research questions guided the study. Data was analyzed using simple percentage and tables. One of the major findings of the study is that there is high availability of various ICT facilities like Computers/laptops, Network technology, Internet facilities etc. in KIL.It was also discovered that the majority of the staff have experienced various types of technostress like inability to concentrate on a task when using computer etc. The study also discovered that changing roles of librarians in the 21st century is one of the causes of technostress and feeling of sore muscles in back/shoulder is identified as one of the symptoms of technostress. Coping and minimizing strategies like using monitors with low ray radiation was identified.
