Quantifying immediate price impact of trades based on the -shell decomposition of stock trading networks
Traders in a stock market exchange stock shares and form a stock trading
network. Trades at different positions of the stock trading network may contain
different information. We construct stock trading networks based on the limit
order book data and classify traders into classes using the -shell
decomposition method. We investigate the influences of trading behaviors on the
price impact by comparing a closed national market (A-shares) with an
international market (B-shares), individuals and institutions, partially filled
and filled trades, buyer-initiated and seller-initiated trades, and trades at
different positions of a trading network. Institutional traders professionally
use some trading strategies to reduce the price impact and individuals at the
same positions in the trading network have a higher price impact than
institutions. We also find that trades in the core have higher price impacts
than those in the peripheral shell.Comment: 6 pages including 3 figures and 1 tabl
Self-testing of a single quantum system from theory to experiment
Self-testing allows one to characterise quantum systems under minimal assumptions. However, existing schemes rely on quantum nonlocality and cannot be applied to systems that are not entangled. Here, we introduce a robust method that achieves self-testing of individual systems by taking advantage of contextuality. The scheme is based on the simplest contextuality witness for the simplest contextual quantum system—the Klyachko-Can-Binicioğlu-Shumovsky inequality for the qutrit. We establish a lower bound on the fidelity of the state and the measurements as a function of the value of the witness under a pragmatic assumption on the measurements. We apply the method in an experiment on a single trapped 40Ca+ using randomly chosen measurements and perfect detection efficiency. Using the observed statistics, we obtain an experimental demonstration of self-testing of a single quantum system
A novel procedure for precise quantification of Schistosoma japonicum eggs in bovine feces
Schistosomiasis japonica is a zoonosis with a number of mammalian species acting as reservoir hosts, including water buffaloes which can contribute up to 75% to human transmission in the People's Republic of China. Determining prevalence and intensity of Schistosoma japonicum in mammalian hosts is important for calculating transmission rates and determining environmental contamination. A new procedure, the formalin-ethyl acetate sedimentation-digestion (FEA-SD) technique, for increased visualization of S. japonicum eggs in bovine feces, is described that is an effective technique for identifying and quantifying S. japonicum eggs in fecal samples from naturally infected Chinese water buffaloes and from carabao (water buffalo) in the Philippines. The procedure involves filtration, sedimentation, potassium hydroxide digestion and centrifugation steps prior to microscopy. Bulk debris, including the dense cellulosic material present in bovine feces, often obscures schistosome eggs with the result that prevalence and infection intensity based on direct visualization cannot be made accurately. This technique removes nearly 70% of debris from the fecal samples and renders the remaining debris translucent. It allows improved microscopic visualization of S. japonicum eggs and provides an accurate quantitative method for the estimation of infection in bovines and other ruminant reservoir hosts. We show that the FEA-SD technique could be of considerable value if applied as a surveillance tool for animal reservoirs of S. japonicum, particularly in areas with low to high infection intensity, or where, following control efforts, there is suspected elimination of schistosomiasis japonica. This work was partially supported by the following grants: The National High Technology Research and Development Program of China (grant

Research Article 1,4-dihydroxy-2-naphthoic Acid Induces Apoptosis in Human Keratinocyte: Potential Application for Psoriasis Treatment
Psoriasis, which affects approximately 1-3% of the population worldwide, is a chronic inflammatory skin disorder characterized by epidermal keratinocytes hyperproliferation, abnormal differentiation, and inflammatory infiltration. Decrease in keratinocyte apoptosis is a specific pathogenic phenomenon in psoriasis. Chinese herbs have been used for the treatment of psoriasis in China showing promising effect in clinical trials. A traditional Chinese medicine has relatively fewer side effects with longer remission time and lower recurrence rate. The extract of Rubia cordifolia L. (EA) was previously found by us to induce HaCaT keratinocytes apoptosis. In this study we identified one of the components in Rubia cordifolia L., the anthraquinone precursor 1,4-dihydroxy-2-naphthoic acid (DHNA), induces HaCaT keratinocytes apoptosis through G0/G1 cell cycle arrest. We have also demonstrated that DHNA acts through both caspase-dependent and caspase-independent pathways. Besides, cytotoxicity and IL-1 release assays indicate that DHNA causes less irritation problems than dithranol, which is commonly employed to treat psoriasis in many countries. Since DHNA possesses similar apoptotic effects on keratinocytes as dithranol but causes less irritation, DHNA therefore constitutes a promising alternative agent for treating psoriasis. Our studies also provide an insight on the potential of using EA and DHNA, alternatively, as a safe and effective treatment modality for psoriasis
Improved Spatial Resolution Achieved by Chromatic Intensity Interferometry
Interferometers are widely used in imaging technologies to achieve enhanced
spatial resolution, but require that the incoming photons be indistinguishable.
In previous work, we built and analyzed color erasure detectors which expand
the scope of intensity interferometry to accommodate sources of different
colors. Here we experimentally demonstrate how color erasure detectors can
achieve improved spatial resolution in an imaging task, well beyond the
diffraction limit. Utilizing two 10.9 mm-aperture telescopes and a 0.8 m
baseline, we measure the distance between a 1063.6 nm source and a 1064.4 nm
source separated by 4.2 mm at a distance of 1.43 km, which surpasses the
diffraction limit of a single telescope by about 40 times. Moreover, chromatic
intensity interferometry allows us to recover the phase of the Fourier
transform of the imaged objects - a quantity that is, in the presence of modest
noise, inaccessible to conventional intensity interferometry.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure
UBR4 deficiency causes male sterility and testis abnormal in Drosophila
IntroductionIt has been established that UBR4 encodes E3 ubiquitin ligase, which determines the specificity of substrate binding during protein ubiquitination and has been associated with various functions of the nervous system but not the reproductive system. Herein, we explored the role of UBR4 on fertility with a Drosophila model.MethodsDifferent Ubr4 knockdown flies were established using the UAS/GAL4 activating sequence system. Fertility, hatchability, and testis morphology were studied, and bioinformatics analyses were conducted. Our results indicated that UBR4 deficiency could induce male sterility and influent egg hatchability in Drosophila.ResultsWe found that Ubr4 deficiency affected the testis during morphological analysis. Proteomics analysis indicated 188 upregulated proteins and 175 downregulated proteins in the testis of Ubr4 knockdown flies. Gene Ontology analysis revealed significant upregulation of CG11598 and Sfp65A, and downregulation of Pelota in Ubr4 knockdown flies. These proteins were involved in the biometabolic or reproductive process in Drosophila. These regulated proteins are important in testis generation and sperm storage promotion. Bioinformatics analysis verified that UBR4 was low expressed in cryptorchidism patients, which further supported the important role of UBR4 in male fertility.DiscussionOverall, our findings suggest that UBR4 deficiency could promote male infertility and may be involved in the protein modification of UBR4 by upregulating Sfp65A and CG11598, whereas downregulating Pelota protein expression
Chromatic interferometry with small frequency differences
By developing a `two-crystal' method for color erasure, we can broaden the
scope of chromatic interferometry to include optical photons whose frequency
difference falls outside of the 400 nm to 4500 nm wavelength range, which is
the passband of a PPLN crystal. We demonstrate this possibility experimentally,
by observing interference patterns between sources at 1064.4 nm and 1063.6 nm,
corresponding to a frequency difference of about 200 GHz.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure

Potential of Core-Collapse Supernova Neutrino Detection at JUNO
JUNO is an underground neutrino observatory under construction in Jiangmen, China. It uses 20kton liquid scintillator as target, which enables it to detect supernova burst neutrinos of a large statistics for the next galactic core-collapse supernova (CCSN) and also pre-supernova neutrinos from the nearby CCSN progenitors. All flavors of supernova burst neutrinos can be detected by JUNO via several interaction channels, including inverse beta decay, elastic scattering on electron and proton, interactions on C12 nuclei, etc. This retains the possibility for JUNO to reconstruct the energy spectra of supernova burst neutrinos of all flavors. The real time monitoring systems based on FPGA and DAQ are under development in JUNO, which allow prompt alert and trigger-less data acquisition of CCSN events. The alert performances of both monitoring systems have been thoroughly studied using simulations. Moreover, once a CCSN is tagged, the system can give fast characterizations, such as directionality and light curve
