    A silver figurine from Lejre

    Get PDF
The current article describes in detail the Lejre figurine found in 2009, inside the mail hall-area at the settlement. The silver figurine depicts a small, anthropomorphic person seated on a throne, with a larger bird on each side. The description includes the context and circumstances of the find location – the aristocratic settlement of Lejre – as well as a thorough evaluation of the attributes of the figurine itself. In the article it is argued that the figurine presents a male personality, which presumably is of a noble status, dressed in a ritual garment and placed on a high seat, thus bearing similarities with the historic descriptions of the Norse god Odin. The garment might even be that of a coronation costume as it has been described and depicted in contemporary continental sources

The Politics of Vaccines—How to Determine a Fair Vaccine Allocation: Hierarchy, Negotiations, or Culture?

    Get PDF
This study examines vaccine allocation policy during the COVID-19 pandemic by applying a hierarchical, a negotiation, and a cultural perspective. It addresses how vaccine allocation principles under conditions of scarcity are translated into practice in the case of Norway. A main finding is that the policy was informed by instrumentalism as well as by path dependencies, but over time the issue became more salient by activating stakeholder interests, which resulted in an adaptation of established norms. The three perspectives reveal how different approaches to a “fair vaccine allocation” policy can lead to different explanations of the same phenomenon.publishedVersio

Fastrac Rocket Engine Combustion Chamber Acoustic Cavities

    Get PDF
A three dimensional modal analysis was performed using finite fluid elements. The analysis shows four distinct modes of the Fastrac chamber plus cavities near the frequency of the chamber first tangential mode. The mode shapes illustrate the complexity of fluid oscillations in a three dimensional chamber and acoustic cavity. In addition, a first tangential forcing function was applied to the chamber with three different acoustic cavity fluid temperatures. It was observed that the acoustic cavity fluid temperature has a significant effect on the response of the chamber to first tangential mode oscillations

Reputation management in societal security – a comparative study

Societal security poses fundamental challenges for the doctrines of accountability and transparency in government. At least some of the national security state’s effectiveness requires a degree of non-transparency, raising questions about legitimacy. This paper explores in cross-national and cross-sectoral perspective, how organisations seek to manage their reputation by accounting for their activities.. This article contributes in three main ways. First, it highlights how distinct tasks facilitate and constrain certain reputation management strategies. Second, it suggests that these reputational considerations shape the way in which organisations can give account. Third, it considers three domains associated with societal security, namely intelligence, flood defence and food safety in five European countries with different state traditions - the UK, Germany, Denmark, Sweden and Norway. By using a “web census”, this article investigates cross-sectoral and cross-national variation in the way organisations seek to account for their activities and manage their reputation. This article finds variation across tasks to be more dominant than national variation

Pružanje lokalnih javnih službi u Kini – institucionalna analiza

    Get PDF
The article reviews the institutional change of local public service provision in China. The emphasis is placed on the characteristics and reasons of the evolution process. The first part presents the characteristics and changes of local public service provision in five periods. The second part analyses public service provision through structural-instrumental, cultural and environmental perspectives. The third part explores whether China has experienced “pendulum-type” movements like some Europe countries. The institutional change of local public service in China is incremental. Although it shows some convergence with the trend of certain European countries, it retains special features.U radu se analizira institucionalna promjena u pružanju lokalnih javnih službi u Kini.

The purpose of this sequence is to teach the aspects of basic science related to the respiratory system, building on the anatomy, physiology, and biochemistry taught in year 1. Clinical examples of applied basic science are based on common lung diseases including: pneumonia, emphysema, asthma, cancer, trauma, ARDS, and respiratory diseases of the newborn.http://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/120538/1/medical_m2_curriculum_respiratory-March10.zi
