Late Time Behaviors of an Inhomogeneous Rolling Tachyon
We study an inhomogeneous decay of an unstable D-brane in the context of
Dirac-Born-Infeld~(DBI)-type effective action. We consider tachyon and
electromagnetic fields with dependence of time and one spatial coordinate, and
an exact solution is found under an exponentially decreasing tachyon potential,
, which is valid for the description of the late time
behavior of an unstable D-brane. Though the obtained solution contains both
time and spatial dependence, the corresponding momentum density vanishes over
the entire spacetime region. The solution is governed by two parameters. One
adjusts the distribution of energy density in the inhomogeneous direction, and
the other interpolates between the homogeneous rolling tachyon and static
configuration. As time evolves, the energy of the unstable D-brane is converted

BPS D-branes from an Unstable D-brane
We search for exact tachyon kink solutions of DBI type effective action
describing an unstable D-brane with worldvolume gauge field turned in both the
flat and a curved background. There are various kinds of solutions in the
presence of electromagnetic fields in the flat space, such as periodic arrays,
topological tachyon kinks, half kinks, and bounces. We identify a BPS object,
D(-1)F1 bound state, which describes a thick brane with string flux density.
The curved background of interest is the ten-dimensional lift of the
Salam-Sezgin vacuum and, in the asymptotic limit, it approaches . The solutions in the curved
background are identified as composites of lower-dimensional D-branes and
fundamental strings, and, in the BPS limit, they become a D4D2F1 composite

PT-Symmetric Electronics
We show both theoretically and experimentally that a pair of inductively
coupled active LRC circuits (dimer), one with amplification and another with an
equivalent amount of attenuation, display all the features which characterize a
wide class of non-Hermitian systems which commute with the joint parity-time PT
operator: typical normal modes, temporal evolution, and scattering processes.
Utilizing a Liouvilian formulation, we can define an underlying PT-symmetric
Hamiltonian, which provides important insight for understanding the behavior of
the system. When the PT-dimer is coupled to transmission lines, the resulting
scattering signal reveals novel features which reflect the PT-symmetry of the
scattering target. Specifically we show that the device can show two different
behaviors simultaneously, an amplifier or an absorber, depending on the
direction and phase relation of the interrogating waves. Having an exact
theory, and due to its relative experimental simplicity, PT-symmetric
electronics offers new insights into the properties of PT-symmetric systems
which are at the forefront of the research in mathematical physics and related

Hoarding Among Outpatients Seeking Treatment at a Psychiatric Hospital in Singapore
Hoarding symptoms commonly co-occur with other psychiatric disorders, such as major depressive disorder, and have been observed across cultures. Yet, few studies have examined hoarding in other disorders or in an Asian context. The present study aimed to determine: (1) the prevalence of clinically significant hoarding, (2) differences between participants with and without significant hoarding, and (3) predictors of hoarding severity in a Singaporean clinical sample. Five hundred outpatients with anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, schizophrenia, and pathological gambling completed a battery of questionnaires on hoarding, anxiety, depression, functional impairment due to clutter, and quality of life. Thirty percent of our sample reported significant hoarding. However, clutter levels in the hoarding group were low, and hoarding severity was not significantly linked to quality of life, after adjusting for anxiety and depression. In addition, depression - but not anxiety - predicted hoarding severity. Our results provide a cross-cultural perspective on hoarding symptoms, and replicate findings that support a link between depression and hoarding. The differential presentation of hoarding in our sample could be due to true cultural differences in hoarding pathology or to variant psychometric properties of the measures used. Further research evaluating hoarding in Asian contexts with different methodology is needed
Density-functional calculation of ionization energies of current-carrying atomic states
Current-density-functional theory is used to calculate ionization energies of
current-carrying atomic states. A perturbative approximation to full
current-density-functional theory is implemented for the first time, and found
to be numerically feasible. Different parametrizations for the
current-dependence of the density functional are critically compared. Orbital
currents in open-shell atoms turn out to produce a small shift in the
ionization energies. We find that modern density functionals have reached an
accuracy at which small current-related terms appearing in open-shell
configurations are not negligible anymore compared to the remaining difference

Evolution of Tachyon Kink with Electric Field
We investigate the decay of an inhomogeneous D1-brane wrapped on a with
an electric field. The model that we consider consists of an array of tachyon
kink and anti-kink with a constant electric flux. Beginning with an initially
static configuration, we numerically evolve the tachyon field with some
perturbations under a fixed boundary condition at diametrically opposite points
on the circle . When the electric flux is smaller than the critical value,
the tachyon kink becomes unstable; the tachyon field rolls down the potential,
and the lower dimensional D0- and -brane become thin, which
resembles the caustic formation known for this type of the system in the
literature. For the supercritical values of the electric flux, the tachyon kink

Degenerate Rotating Black Holes, Chiral CFTs and Fermi Surfaces I - Analytic Results for Quasinormal Modes
In this work we discuss charged rotating black holes in
that degenerate to extremal black holes with zero entropy. These black holes
have scaling properties between charge and angular momentum similar to those of
Fermi surface operators in a subsector of SYM. We add a
massless uncharged scalar to the five dimensional supergravity theory, such
that it still forms a consistent truncation of the type IIB ten dimensional
supergravity and analyze its quasinormal modes. Separating the equation of
motion to a radial and angular part, we proceed to solve the radial equation
using the asymptotic matching expansion method applied to a Heun equation with
two nearby singularities. We use the continued fraction method for the angular
Heun equation and obtain numerical results for the quasinormal modes. In the
case of the supersymmetric black hole we present some analytic results for the
decay rates of the scalar perturbations. The spectrum of quasinormal modes
obtained is similar to that of a chiral 1+1 CFT, which is consistent with the
conjectured field-theoretic dual. In addition, some of the modes can be found

Monoindole Alkaloids from a Marine Sponge Spongosorites sp.
Seven (1–7) monoindole derivatives were isolated from the MeOH extract of a marine sponge Spongosorites sp. by bioactivity-guided fractionation. The planar structures were established on the basis of NMR and MS spectroscopic analyses. Compounds 1–5 are unique indole pyruvic acid derivatives. Compounds 1–2 and 4–6 are isolated for the first time from a natural source although they were previously reported as synthetic intermediates. Compound 3 was defined as a new compound. Co-occurring bisindoles such as hamacanthins and topsentins might be biosynthesized by condensation of two units of these compounds. The compounds were tested for cytotoxicity against a panel of five human solid tumor cell lines, and compound 7 displayed weak activity
