Far-infrared carrier dynamics in superconducting MgB[sub 2]
We have performed optical-pump terahertz-probe measurements in transmission on MgB{sub 2} thin films in the superconducting state. The initial optical perturbation of the superconducting condensate and subsequent pair recovery display a strong fluence dependence. In conclusion, we have performed the first time-resolved far-infrared studies on the new superconductor MgB{sub 2}. We have observed a strongly fluence dependent pair recovery time that, at the lowest fluences used, is approximately 500 ps. In addition, at the lower excitation fluences where superconductivity is not destroyed, a risetime in the dynamics is observed that may be due to photoinduced gap fluctuations

Collider Signatures of Neutrino Masses and Mixing from R-parity Violation
R-parity violation in the supersymmetric standard model can be the source of
neutrino masses and mixing. We analyze the neutrino mass matrix coming from
either bilinear or trilinear R-parity violation and its collider signatures,
assuming that the atmospheric and solar neutrino data are explained by three
active neutrino oscillations. Taking the gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking
mechanism, we show that the lightest neutralino decays well inside the detector
and the model could be tested by observing its branching ratios in the future
colliders. In the bilinear model where only the small solar neutrino mixing
angle can be accommodated, the relation, BR()
BR() BR(), serves as a
robust test of the model. The large mixing angle solution can be realized in
the trilinear model which predicts BR() BR() BR(). In either case, the
relation, BR() BR() BR(), should hold to be
consistent with the atmospheric neutrino and CHOOZ experiments.Comment: 24pages, Late
SRAO CO Observation of 11 Supernova Remnants in l = 70 to 190 deg
We present the results of 12CO J = 1-0 line observations of eleven Galactic
supernova remnants (SNRs) obtained using the Seoul Radio Astronomy Observatory
(SRAO) 6-m radio telescope. The observation was made as a part of the SRAO CO
survey of SNRs between l = 70 and 190 deg, which is intended to identify SNRs
interacting with molecular clouds. The mapping areas for the individual SNRs
are determined to cover their full extent in the radio continuum. We used
halfbeam grid spacing (60") for 9 SNRs and full-beam grid spacing (120") for
the rest. We detected CO emission towards most of the remnants. In six SNRs,
molecular clouds showed a good spatial relation with their radio morphology,
although no direct evidence for the interaction was detected. Two SNRs are
particularly interesting: G85.4+0.7, where there is a filamentary molecular
cloud along the radio shell, and 3C434.1, where a large molecular cloud appears
to block the western half of the remnant. We briefly summarize the results
obtained for individual SNRs.Comment: Accepted for publication in Astrophysics & Space Science. 12 pages,

CSF total tau/α-synuclein ratio improved the diagnostic performance for Alzheimers disease as an indicator of tau phosphorylation
Abstract
Background
Recently, several studies suggested potential involvements of α-synuclein in Alzheimers disease (AD) pathophysiology. Higher concentrations of α-synuclein were reported in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of AD patients with a positive correlation towards CSF tau, indicating its possible role in AD. We analyzed the CSF biomarkers to verify whether α-synuclein could be an additional supported biomarker in AD diagnosis.
Methods
In this cross-sectional study, CSF samples of 71 early-onset AD, 34 late-onset AD, 11 mild cognitive impairment, 17 subjective cognitive decline, 45 Parkinsons disease, and 32 healthy control (HC) were collected. CSF amyloid-β1-42 (A), total tau (N), and phosphorylated tau181 (T) were measured by commercial ELISA kits, and in-house ELISA kit was developed to quantify α-synuclein. The cognitive assessments and amyloid-PET imaging were also performed.
Results
CSF α-synuclein manifested a tendency to increase in AD and to decreased in Parkinsons disease compared to HC. The equilibrium states of total tau and α-synuclein concentrations were changed significantly in AD, and the ratio of total tau/α-synuclein (N/αS) was dramatically increased in AD than HC. Remarkably, N/αS revealed a strong positive correlation with tau phosphorylation rate. Also, the combination of N/αS with amyloid-β1-42/phosphorylated tau181ratio had the best diagnosis performance (AUC = 0.956, sensitivity = 96%, specificity = 87%). In concordance analysis, N/αS showed the higher diagnostic agreement with amyloid-β1-42 and amyloid-PET. Analysis of biomarker profiling with N/αS had distinctive characteristics and clustering of each group. Especially, among the group of suspected non-Alzheimers disease pathophysiology, all A−T+N+ patients with N/αS+ were reintegrated into AD.
Conclusions
The high correlation of α-synuclein with tau and the elevated N/αS in AD supported the involvement of α-synuclein in AD pathophysiology. Importantly, N/αS improved the diagnostic performance, confirming the needs of incorporating α-synuclein as a biomarker for neurodegenerative disorders. The incorporation of a biomarker group [N/αS] could contribute to provide better understanding and diagnosis of neurodegenerative disorders
Performance of Papanicolaou Testing and Detection of Cervical Carcinoma In Situ in Participants of Organized Cervical Cancer Screening in South Korea
BACKGROUND: The present study measured the performance of the Papanicolaou (Pap) test and detection of cervical carcinoma in situ (CIS) and cancer in participants of organized cervical cancer screening in South Korea, and examined differences in the proportion of CIS according to socio-demographic factors. METHODS: Data were obtained from the National Cancer Screening Program and National Health Insurance Cancer Screening Program databases. We analyzed data from 4,072,997 screenings of women aged 30 years or older who underwent cervical cancer screening by Pap test between January 1, 2005 and December 31, 2006. We calculated the performances of the Pap test and compared that according to socio-demographic factors. RESULTS: The positivity rate for all screenings was 6.6%. The cancer detection rate (CDR) and interval cancer rate (ICR) were 0.32 per 1,000 screenings, and 0.13 per 1,000 negative screenings, respectively. About 63.4% of screen-detected CIS+ cases (CIS or invasive cervical cancer) were CIS. The CDR and ICR, and percentage of CIS among all CIS+ were significantly different by age group and health insurance status. The odds ratios of CDR and ICR were higher for Medical Aid Program (MAP) recipients compared with National Health Insurance (NHI) beneficiaries. The likelihood of a detected CIS+ case to be CIS was significantly lower among MAP recipients than among NHI beneficiaries. CONCLUSIONS: The difference in performance of cervical cancer screening among different socio-demographic groups may indicate an important influence of socio-demographic factors on preventive behavior. The findings of the study support the critical need for increasing efforts to raise awareness and provide more screening in at-risk populations, specifically low-income groups
The Azimuthal Decorrelation of Jets Widely Separated in Rapidity
This study reports the first measurement of the azimuthal decorrelation
between jets with pseudorapidity separation up to five units. The data were
accumulated using the D{\O}detector during the 1992--1993 collider run of the
Fermilab Tevatron at 1.8 TeV. These results are compared to
next--to--leading order (NLO) QCD predictions and to two leading--log
approximations (LLA) where the leading--log terms are resummed to all orders in
. The final state jets as predicted by NLO QCD
show less azimuthal decorrelation than the data. The parton showering LLA Monte
Carlo {\small HERWIG} describes the data well; an analytical LLA prediction
based on BFKL resummation shows more decorrelation than the data.Comment: 6 pages with 4 figures, all uuencoded and gzippe
Measurement of the Boson Mass
A measurement of the mass of the boson is presented based on a sample of
5982 decays observed in collisions at
