    Conditional bounds for small prime solutions of linear equations

    Let a 1, a 2, a 3 be non-zero integers with gcd(a 1 a 2, a 3)=1 and let b be an arbitrary integer satisfying gcd (b, a i, a j) =1 for i≠j and b≡a 1+a 2+a 3 (mod 2). In a previous paper [3] which completely settled a problem of A. Baker, the 2nd and 3rd authors proved that if a 1, a 2, a 3 are not all of the same sign, then the equation a 1 p 1+a 2 p 2+a 3 p 3=b has a solution in primes p j satisfying {Mathematical expression} where A>0 is an absolute constant. In this paper, under the Generalized Riemann Hypothesis, the authors obtain a more precise bound for the solutions p j . In particular they obtain A0.     The application of free web tools to e-learning platforms for integrating cantonese opera into hong kong chinese language education in the era of Web 2.0

    This article presents the application of weblogs as e-learning platforms to the new curriculum for integrating Cantonese opera into Chinese language education in Hong Kong. The application is outstanding because it is applied to such a unique curriculum which contains rich and varied learning content from language to literature and from culture to performing arts. The richness and variety of the curriculum in turn favour the trial of choosing and integrating free web tools into weblogs as elearning platforms. Apart from setting up weblogs for learners by the authority centrally, learners can scaffold their own weblogs as learning outcomes. It is found that weblogs embedded with web tools as e-learning platforms can enrich the curriculum, and the learners can acquire new literacy on the top of learning content.     Advances in the field of nanooncology

    Nanooncology, the application of nanobiotechnology to the management of cancer, is currently the most important chapter of nanomedicine. Nanobiotechnology has refined and extended the limits of molecular diagnosis of cancer, for example, through the use of gold nanoparticles and quantum dots. Nanobiotechnology has also improved the discovery of cancer biomarkers, one such example being the sensitive detection of multiple protein biomarkers by nanobiosensors. Magnetic nanoparticles can capture circulating tumor cells in the bloodstream followed by rapid photoacoustic detection. Nanoparticles enable targeted drug delivery in cancer that increases efficacy and decreases adverse effects through reducing the dosage of anticancer drugs administered. Nanoparticulate anticancer drugs can cross some of the biological barriers and achieve therapeutic concentrations in tumor and spare the surrounding normal tissues from toxic effects. Nanoparticle constructs facilitate the delivery of various forms of energy for noninvasive thermal destruction of surgically inaccessible malignant tumors. Nanoparticle-based optical imaging of tumors as well as contrast agents to enhance detection of tumors by magnetic resonance imaging can be combined with delivery of therapeutic agents for cancer. Monoclonal antibody nanoparticle complexes are under investigation for diagnosis as well as targeted delivery of cancer therapy. Nanoparticle-based chemotherapeutic agents are already on the market, and several are in clinical trials. Personalization of cancer therapies is based on a better understanding of the disease at the molecular level, which is facilitated by nanobiotechnology. Nanobiotechnology will facilitate the combination of diagnostics with therapeutics, which is an important feature of a personalized medicine approach to cancer

    U(n) Spectral Covers from Decomposition

    We construct decomposed spectral covers for bundles on elliptically fibered Calabi-Yau threefolds whose structure groups are S(U(1) x U(4)), S(U(2) x U(3)) and S(U(1) x U(1) x U(3)) in heterotic string compactifications. The decomposition requires not only the tuning of the SU(5) spectral covers but also the tuning of the complex structure moduli of the Calabi-Yau threefolds. This configuration is translated to geometric data on F-theory side. We find that the monodromy locus for two-cycles in K3 fibered Calabi-Yau fourfolds in a stable degeneration limit is globally factorized with squared factors under the decomposition conditions. This signals that the monodromy group is reduced and there is a U(1) symmetry in a low energy effective field theory. To support that, we explicitly check the reduction of a monodromy group in an appreciable region of the moduli space for an E6E_6 gauge theory with (1+2) decomposition.
