Coupling Circuit Resonators Among Themselves and To Nitrogen-Vacancy Centers in Diamond

We propose a scheme to couple NV centers in diamond through coplanar waveguide resonators. The central conductor of the resonator is split into several pieces which are coupled strongly with each other via simple capacitive junctions or superconducting Josephson junctions. The NV centers are then put at the junctions. The discontinuity at the junctions induces a large local magnetic field, with which the NV centers are strongly coupled to the circuit resonator. The coupling strength gg between the resonator and the NV center is of order of g/2π∼1g/2\pi\sim 1--30\unit{MHz}.Comment: 4 pages; 3 figures; several typos corrected; figure 1 regenerate

URBAN INDIA AND CLIMATE CHANGE: MITIGATION STRATEGIES TOWARDS INCLUSIVE GROWTH

    Get PDF
Climate change has been emerged as a major challenge for the sustainable human settlement. The recent studies have established scientific evidences for climate change. This paper presents impacts of climate change in the urban India, which has about 30 percent of population and expected to grow over 800 million by next 50 years. Citizens are already facing adverse impact of climate change, which is evenly spread throughout the country and mostly to vulnerable citizens. India’s expenditure on adaptation measures was exceeded 2.6 percent of the GDP in 2006-07 shows the magnitude of monetary loss by climate change. Due to complexity of issues, systematic strategies are needed for adaptation and mitigation. In the light of ‘National Action Plan on Climate Change’ two urban sectors viz. urban transportation and municipal solid waste management are assessed and suggestions have been made for mitigation strategies. This study is broadly based on published researches and documents. Findings reveal that yet the climate change is not taken seriously by policy makers, hence blue print for mitigation haven’t placed. Findings suggest systematic mitigation measures for sustainable development which will lead to inclusive growth too. The need for collaborative planning among various stakeholders is emphasized.Climate change, urban India, mitigation, urban transportation, municipal waste management.

Large-Scale Schr\"odinger-Cat States and Majorana Bound States in Coupled Circuit-QED Systems

We have studied the low-lying excitations of a chain of coupled circuit-QED systems, and report several intriguing properties of its two nearly degenerate ground states. The ground states are Schr\"odinger cat states at a truly large scale, involving maximal entanglement between the resonator and the qubit, and are mathematically equivalent to Majorana bound states. With a suitable design of physical qubits, they are protected against local fluctuations and constitute a non-local qubit. Further, they can be probed and manipulated coherently by attaching an empty resonator to one end of the circuit-QED chain.Comment: 5 pages; 2 figures; incorrect references corrected; typos correcte

Variational study of a two-level system coupled to a harmonic oscillator in a ultrastrong coupling regime

The nonclassical behaviors of a two-level system coupled to a harmonic oscillator is investigated in the ultrastrong coupling regime. We revisit the variational solution of the ground state and find that the existing solution do not account accurately for nonclassical effects such squeezing. We suggest a new trial wave function and demonstrate that it has an excellent accuracy on the quantum correlation effects as well as on energy.Comment: 4 pages; 3 figures; to appear in Phys. Rev.

Reformulating the Developmental State Theory to Explain Chinese Spatial Planning

Developmental state literature almost completely neglects the fact that one of the unique features of the developmental state is its capacity to reorganize its territory, and the literature on the Chinese developmental state repeats the same oversight. Against this backdrop, this study attempts to retheorize China's spatial planning from a developmental state perspective. In light of the theoretical discussion in this study, we argue that the developmentalist spatial planning has five main characteristics of the developmentalist spatial planning: 1) The state sees its territory as a means of production, not as a living environment. 2) Industrial location policies were market-conforming. 3) The spatial planning was controlled or strongly influenced by the elite economic agency that formulates industrial policies and guides the market. 4) The bureaucracy is more or less insulated from local growth coalitions. 5) Spatial planning creates rather than responds to economic changes. These five characteristics are apparent in China’s spatial planning as much as in South Korea’s
