Strong and Electromagnetic Decays of Two New Baryons
Two recently discovered excited charm baryons are studied within the
framework of Heavy Hadron Chiral Perturbation Theory. We interpret these new
baryons which lie 308 \MeV and 340 \MeV above the as
members of a P-wave spin doublet. Differential and total decay rates for their
double pion transitions down to the ground state are calculated.
Estimates for their radiative decay rates are also discussed. We find that the
experimentally determined characteristics of the baryons may be

Kinetically-controlled thin-film growth of layered - and NaCoO cobaltate
We report growth characteristics of epitaxial -NaCoO and
-NaCoO thin films on (001) sapphire substrates grown by
pulsed-laser deposition. Reduction of deposition rate could change structure of
NaCoO thin film from -phase with island growth mode to
-phase with layer-by-layer growth mode. The
-NaCoO thin film exhibits spiral surface growth with
multiterraced islands and highly crystallized texture compared to that of the
-NaCoO thin film. This heterogeneous epitaxial film growth
can give opportunity of strain effect of physical properties and growth
dynamics of NaCoO as well as subtle nature of structural change.Comment: accepted for publication in Applied Physics Letter
Nonextensive Pesin identity. Exact renormalization group analytical results for the dynamics at the edge of chaos of the logistic map
We show that the dynamical and entropic properties at the chaos threshold of
the logistic map are naturally linked through the nonextensive expressions for
the sensitivity to initial conditions and for the entropy. We corroborate
analytically, with the use of the Feigenbaum renormalization group(RG)
transformation, the equality between the generalized Lyapunov coefficient
and the rate of entropy production given by the
nonextensive statistical mechanics. Our results advocate the validity of the
-generalized Pesin identity at critical points of one-dimensional nonlinear

Spin diffusion of correlated two-spin states in a dielectric crystal
Reciprocal space measurements of spin diffusion in a single crystal of
calcium fluoride (CaF) have been extended to dipolar ordered states. The
experimental results for the component of the spin diffusion parallel with the
external field are cm/s for the
[001] direction and cm/s for the
[111] direction. The diffusion rates for dipolar order are significantly faster
than those for Zeeman order and are considerably faster than predicted by
simple theoretical models. It is suggested that constructive interference in
the transport of the two spin state is responsible for this enhancement. As
expected the anisotropy in the diffusion rates is observed to be significantly

Gravitino fields in Schwarzschild black hole spacetimes
The analysis of gravitino fields in curved spacetimes is usually carried out
using the Newman-Penrose formalism. In this paper we consider a more direct
approach with eigenspinor-vectors on spheres, to separate out the angular parts
of the fields in a Schwarzschild background. The radial equations of the
corresponding gauge invariant variable obtained are shown to be the same as in
the Newman-Penrose formalism. These equations are then applied to the
evaluation of the quasinormal mode frequencies, as well as the absorption

QCD effective action with a most general homogeneous field background
We consider one-loop effective action of SU(3) QCD with a most general
constant chromomagnetic (chromoelectric) background which has two independent
Abelian field components. The effective potential with a pure magnetic
background has a local minimum only when two Abelian components H_{\mu\nu}^3
and H_{\mu\nu}^8 of color magnetic field are orthogonal to each other. The
non-trivial structure of the effective action has important implication in
estimating quark-gluon production rate and p_T-distribution in quark-gluon
plasma. In general the production rate depends on three independent Casimir
invariants, in particular, it depends on the relative orientation between

Purification through Zeno-like Measurements
A series of frequent measurements on a quantum system (Zeno-like
measurements) is shown to result in the ``purification'' of another quantum
system in interaction with the former. Even though the measurements are
performed on the former system, their effect drives the latter into a pure
state, irrespectively of its initial (mixed) state, provided certain conditions
