    Investigating Determinants that Affect Job and Life Dissatisfaction: The Case of Relocation

    Purpose: Geographical relocation has been conducted to alleviate overcrowding and to support balanced regional development in many countries. Previous studies have seldom examined the effectiveness of relocation on job and life dissatisfaction, particularly in the public sector. The purpose of this study is to investigate the determinants of relocation on job and life dissatisfaction. Proposed research questions include the following: i) do working conditions in the new workplace and interactivity affect job dissatisfaction? ii) do social infrastructure and social activity in the new location affect life dissatisfaction? and iii) is there a relationship between job and life dissatisfaction? Research Design, data, and methodology: The study collected data via an online survey and applied statistical analyses such as factor analysis, regression, and ANOVA. Results: The results of this study found that proposed determinants excluding mobility inefficiency and decision-making affect job and life dissatisfaction. The results also showed that there are relationships between job and life dissatisfaction. Conclusions: The results of this study provide both managerial and policy implications of relocation for the public sector. The results of this study implied that better policy should be designed to increase job and life satisfaction that also accounts for the realities of relocation.2

    Richard Straussā€™ opera ā€œSalomeā€ is a musical discourse of the uneven power dynamics between male and female with the idea of the gaze as its central narrative. Under the patriarchal premise of the male gaze, the men emerge as the gazers, while the women are relegated to the role of submissive objectification. This paper examines the way Salome manipulates this patriarchal notion of the gaze for her own gain, voluntarily offering herself as the object of the male gaze. I further postulated that Salome strategically oscillates between the stereotypical image of femme fatale and femme fragile, intentionally succumbing to the masculine-constructed demonization and idealization of female power. Consequently, this paper traces how Straussā€™ music realizes those gender portrayals and Salomeā€™s resistance against the male order, reflecting the use of musical analyses as a tool in understanding gender roles and power in operas

    Frequency-selective acoustic and haptic smart skin for dual-mode dynamic/static human-machine interface

    &lt;jats:p&gt;Accurate transmission of biosignals without interference of surrounding noises is a key factor for the realization of human-machine interfaces (HMIs). We propose frequency-selective acoustic and haptic sensors for dual-mode HMIs based on triboelectric sensors with hierarchical macrodome/micropore/nanoparticle structure of ferroelectric composites. Our sensor shows a high sensitivity and linearity under a wide range of dynamic pressures and resonance frequency, which enables high acoustic frequency selectivity in a wide frequency range (145 to 9000 Hz), thus rendering noise-independent voice recognition possible. Our frequency-selective multichannel acoustic sensor array combined with an artificial neural network demonstrates over 95% accurate voice recognition for different frequency noises ranging from 100 to 8000 Hz. We demonstrate that our dual-mode sensor with linear response and frequency selectivity over a wide range of dynamic pressures facilitates the differentiation of surface texture and control of an avatar robot using both acoustic and mechanical inputs without interference from surrounding noise.&lt;/jats:p&gt

    Metformin and Niclosamide Synergistically Suppress Wnt and YAP in APC-Mutated Colorectal Cancer

    The Wnt and Hippo pathways are tightly coordinated and understanding their reciprocal regulation may provide a novel therapeutic strategy for cancer. Anti-helminthic niclosamide is an effective inhibitor of Wnt and is now in a phase II trial for advanced colorectal cancer (CRC) patients. We found that Axin2, an authentic target gene of canonical Wnt, acts as aYAP phosphorylation activator in APC-mutated CRC. While niclosamide effectively suppresses Wnt, it also inhibits Hippo, limiting its therapeutic potential for CRC. To overcome this limitation, we utilized metformin, a clinically available AMPK activator. This combinatory approach not only suppresses canonical Wnt activity, but also inhibits YAP activity in CRC cancer cells and in patient-derived cancer organoid through the suppression of cancer stemness. Further, combinatory oral administration suppressed in vivo tumorigenesis and the cancer progression of APC-MIN mice models. Our observations provide not only a reciprocal link between Wnt and Hippo, but also clinically available novel therapeutics that are able to target Wnt and YAP in APC-mutated CRC
